Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010)
Just enough action to keep the story moving.
I've not yet read the book, but certainly will now.
When I first started watching this movie I was severely jet-lagged and wanted to knock the movie as a poorly-made Red Dawn re-make. As it proceeded, however, I found myself overtaken by the character-based aspect that had me contemplating what I would do and how I would feel if kids of mine were forced to face the reality that these youth had thrust upon them.
Fortunately, in Cairo I have a satellite system that includes Premier and Premier2, so I was able to watch the movie a second time - something I NEVER do.
I found myself enjoying the flick even more the second time and can't wait to see any sequels.
In many ways, this was BETTER than Red Dawn simply because there were believable errors made by the kids that I felt helped round out the story.
I will watch this movie again, it is that good, and will post a review also at informedsourcestoday.com - a site I have begun to provide information for people who want to learn more than the mere sound bites provided by politicians and spin control talking heads.
The Rain Makers (2005)
An updated version of the original, great, Billy Jack
Although this movie was not nearly so well done as Billy Jack or Rambo, and even as clumsy and awkward as it was, this movie captivated me enough to get me away from the internet for 90 minutes.
Just as did Billy Jack, this movie has as a hero a Vietnam Special Forces veteran coming to the rescue of pacifists.
What this flick does differently though, is to include another Vietnam vet who is on the sheriff's department who is not crooked and who has been maligned because he was stereotyped by the peace freaks as a baby killer because he fought in 'Nam.
There are other differences, mostly not positive though. I would watch this movie again, so have to rate it a six or higher. Jake Busey is going to be a star one day soon.
