Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Super fun surprise, you won't be bored, haters gonna hate
A lot of people are bagging on this giving it a 2 and I'm just like shocked at how people could rate this wonderful movie so low. I really don't get it. It's such a fun, exciting, super funny, lighthearted movie with action and good pacing that will not leave you bored.
I came in as a former DND player and it didn't disappoint. I used to be a DM and so I loved the world building. Sure the cast maybe could have been better but the writing and pacing is what I loved about it. Never felt slow. Never felt stupid. And the comedy kept you from taking it to serious.
Anyone who gives this a bad review, I'd love to see what they consider a great fantasy movie then if this isn't.
Copenhagen Cowboy (2022)
I watch every Refn movie. Villanvue, Refn, Nolan. 3 best
IF YOU ARENT FAMILIAR WITH HIS MOVIES YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS STYLE.
I fell in love with Refns work with Valhalla Rising. I was sold after that. Then Drive came out and I was obsessed. I still haven't seen his original first, the drug dealer movie pusher or whatever it was called. But damn. So good. If you have surround sound this show is INsANE. He uses tricks to make sound come out of every speaker. Uber surround effects constantly. Makes it 20 times better than just stereo or so called "surround sound tv bar".
Cinematography is top notch like all his films. Acting is top notch. Everything is top notch. However. One important note.
IF YOU ARENT FAMILIAR WITH HIS MOVIES YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS STYLE.
Smile (2022)
Smile succeeds where other horrors fail. But uses "it follows" premise.
So smile was really good for a horror. Tight plot, gripping all way through, great acting from lead, and overall great pacing. I can see why they choose her.
This movie was very good and I would give it a 9 instead of an 8 but for one reason. It was exactly like IT FOLLOWS down to the T. Not sure if the writer just straight stole the plot or when this was written but dang if it's not almost identical. This might be a little scarier though. But there's not many jump scares. It's mainly psychological horror. But I still loved every second of this. Highly recommend especially if you like it follows.
Barbarian (2022)
Super fun and super tense entertaining movie.
Super fun movie. Didn't ever get slow or boring. Loved everything about it but I'm biased I love horrors. Sometimes it was a little predictable. I saw where it was headed early. But that didn't take away from the fun of it all. I especially loved Tess. So many times I was like "finally" a movie where someone was like "nope". Not going in there. Lmao. But yea I loved it.
If you want a good scary movie and are willing to suspend a few beliefs and ignore some physics that aren't quite possible in real life, and just enjoy it for what it is you will like this movie too. Pretty scary in a couple scenes.
The Sandman (2022)
Amazing show getting unfair criticism by republicans.
Man the racism and homophobia is strong in the review section. I get it it's a little diverse. But damn don't hate on a good show for that. Amazing and if you like constantine this is the same thing. Great.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Vikings but without slowing as seasons progress
I loved Vikings. But after Ragnar left the show slowed down BIG time. This show stayed good till the end. I just finished the final season. Man I loved this show. I loved UHTRED his character and the acting by Alexander. Such a good show. Especially if you like ancient shows.
Sator (2019)
Slow but the true story behind film makes it way intense
So. No spoilers here but backstory about film makes it totally worth watching. This film was made based around the directors grandma who is actually the grandma in the film. She's not acting. He included her videos talking to him into the movie. There is one scene with an actor and her in it, and she doesn't realize he's an actor. Man. This film is haunting knowing she really hears this stuff.
And if you like A24 films. This is gonna be great for you.
Yellowstone (2018)
To craft a drama this good with zero special effects is rare
Such a good show. I mean I love it. It's addicting. From the sets, to the authenticity of the cowboy way of life, to the acting, there is nothing to complain about. The writing is top notch. Is it realistic in its fighting and law breaking? No probably not realistic but everything else is so realistic it's worth looking past. Plus it makes it so exciting and addicting. Just a damn good show. Only one I can think that comes close is peaky blinders. And they are totally different kinds of shows.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Way better than I thought. Reminded me of "The Strain"
So I had no clue what to expect. All I knew is the haunting of hill house writer and his cast were in this. So I was like sure why not.
Man it was good. It's not as much like haunting in that it isn't like scary and all, it's more a thriller. A supernatural thriller. But it's really good. And def worth watching. Reminded me a lot of a show called "the strain" on FX. Which I also really liked.
Some of the dialogue is stretched, maybe a handful of monologues were a little slow but they weren't to many of them. So overall a great watch.
Free Guy (2021)
Better than expected
This was way better than I thought it was going to be. The pacing was great. Never felt bored or like it was dragging on. Loved Ryan Reynolds as always. Had great references to modern culture. And was overall super entertaining.
Yes of course that's not how programmingi and coding actually work, and people need to chill on the realism and just enjoy it as is foru a feel good movie.
My only real complaint was the writing for the bad guy, taki, it was too over the top. That's rare in a over the top movie. To be too over the top.
But overall it was very enjoyable and I highly recommend.
The Green Knight (2021)
If your writing 1 star then stick with fast and furious movies
Basically. If you like the witch, or saint maud, vanilla sky, or movies like slightly odd and slow, then you might like this. If you have movies like that you will hate this. I hope your like me though
As for my thoughts. People really lack patience these days, lack imagination, almost can guarantee that they never read, and lack overall intelligence. Seriously they should stick with fast and furious movies. If they really require lots of action then they should stay within their lane of transformers and GI joe.
For anyone else who doesn't have ADD realize your going into a movie that does move slowly yes, but go into relaxed and just watching the journey. Try to envision the filmmakers thoughts as he guides you through a nicely shot, well acted, rather trippy and imaginative movie..
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Wow did not expect to be glued to seat whole time
Surprisingly really entertaining. Very impressed. Great flick. Good acting from lead woman. Sure a little predictable but so what. Worth the watch. Go into this knowing as little as possible like I did.
Castlevania (2017)
Only 3 anime's are worth watching. This is one.
I have watched maybe a dozen anime's. From one punch man to ghost in shell. Only 3 were spectacular. This one is at the top of my list. Only one that even comes close is attack on Titan. But I honestly like the animation better in this. It's sooooo good. Looks so good. It's meant for adults. It's fantastic.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
No it won't win oscars but wayyy better than I thought
I was expecting it to be like the first mortal Kombat movie. Insanely cheesy and PG level of violence. Boyyyy was I wrong. So violent and gory the executions were off the chain. Tons of nods to the game and plenty of nostalgic moments. Hell. If anyone has ever played the game and used the sweep move over and over there is even a funny nod to that. Kano provides plenty of funny lines and points out some of the actual silliness. No the acting won't win any awards nor will the writing. But good lord was it way more fun than I thought.
ZeroZeroZero (2019)
If you like sicario. This is your show.
Man I loved sicario so much. Like. Easily the best movie of that year for me. But if you could take sicario, elaborate and stretch it out, and have it focus on a pair of Americans trying to smuggle drugs you then have this show. It's way more like sicario than breaking bad. At least in the overall directing, sound editing, atmosphere, and sheer raw brutality and it makes for a tense and excellent watch. I only have one episode left and I'm gonna be so sad when this little gem is over.
This is so good I wrote a review about it. And I rarely write reviews.
Watch it!!!!!
The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
Atmospheric horror similar to Heriditary.
This is the opposite of a jump scare movie. Like Annabelle or paranormal activity. It's a slow burn tense, atmospheric horror like Heriditary and Relic (or even babadook). All movies I absolutely loved. Great acting too and just like in Heriditary the actress carries the film. Great super scary horror about the devil trying to steal souls by using sight and sound to tempt you to darkness.
I am giving it a 9 instead of an 8 like I should be. However if I don't give it one higher than I want to rate it, it will likely place lower than it should do the extreme reviewers that give 1's if they don't like a movie. And this movie is that good of a horror that it deserves to be in the 7-10 range.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Sjws and feminists unite to make a movie.
Omg what did they do. I love the first couple terminator movies but this is just embarrassing and a disservice to the originals. This is worse than T3 and 4. Without spoiling to much, they ruined the story. They just crapped all over it.
But the worst part is the feminist culture thrown in your face. It would be a complete evil man vs powerful women movie all the way through except the last minute they saved that by throwing a guy in the mix. Just more sjw crap outta Hollywood lately. Women can be strong without always having to be physically tough hand to hand and gun combat training. Jeeees Hollywood.
Messiah (2020)
The preview looked boring. But. I Couldn't have been more wrong.
This is the first review I have written in a while. I just had to write one in case someone out there was on the fence about whether they should invest some time to watch this. Omg I'm so glad I did.
Yes at times it can move a little slow. But boy did I get sucked in. I had to keep watching to find out what was going to happen. It is well written and very well acted especially by the Messiah. It kept me guessing the whole time. Excellent. I'm dying for season 2. Omg. It can't come soon enough.
Legion (2017)
I RARELY EVER give higher than a 9. 10's should be extremely rare.
And this show deserves the rare award of a 10 from me. I mean, this show is everything I want in a show. Forget that its Marvel or superhero based. It feels nothing like a regular super hero show we know. It throws that formula out of the water. Off a bridge. Hell it is so different than any show for that matter.
Where do I start with the compliments?
The visuals, cinematography - 10/10 - Some of the most impressive visuals in any tv show ever. Real eye candy.
Sound- 10/10 - Sound you mean soundtrack right? No, and yes, the soundtrack is outstanding. But literally the sound itself is meant to be trippy and just like the visuals, it is outstanding. For anyone lucky enough to have surround sound, this is a show you want it for. Especially in season 3.
Story - 10/10 - The take on madness, and just the wierd originality of this show is completely unique and stands alone.
Acting - 8.5/10 - I didnt give this a 10, not because anyone is bad, but just because there is no stellar oscar worthy acting, not enough to give it a 10. Like i said 10's are rare for me. But David and Farouk are excellent. So is Aubrey Plaza actually.
Just pure joy and entertainment, and you never know what to expect. Last episode he was fighting demons that ate time itself. Before he turned into shiva, before a guy pulled a scimitar out of his throat, before a android woman with a moustache talked like a robot. I mean what? This show is a trip. 10/10/
Black Summer (2019)
What walking dead used to be.
I stumbled upon this knowing little about it. And boy am I happy I did. There are few zombie movies or shows that actually are tense and make me feel like the show was really well thought out. Walking dead used to have the same level of drama and suspense. Great show. If you like end of world or zombie shows you should like this.
Hereditary (2018)
The perfect horror film. If you like horror at all. Just watch it
This is the best horror film I would say in past few years but I really enjoyed the ritual on Netflix and if you count a quiet place I loved that too.
But this movie is really perfectly paced. Some may complain it's slow in the first half but if the first half didn't set the eerie tone and give the characters depth you would not feel the emotion for them as strongly. The mothers performance is Oscar worthy. I mean she's incredibly talented in this movie. Charlie is the perfect creepy kid. I hope this movie blows up and gets shared for everyone to see as me finding it was a freak accident. I had never even heard of it or seen previews. Don't even watch previews. Go in knowing nothing but it's a supernatural horror not unlike the witch or the ritual on Netflix. Don't think about it. Watch it.
Dark (2017)
best show and NETFLIX is killing it lately
Between this and star get things and peaky blinders netflix is rearranging my top 10 list of fav shows ever. this show is so good. you have to read subtitles. i know a little german so it helped but i do t mind subtitles. watch with volume up on a big screen. bueatiful show. it's in 4k too for people with good tvs. super dark great cinematography. awesome plot all intertwined. amazing. don't give up after first episode. it's so worth it.
The Foreigner (2017)
Was NOT excited expecting a great movie. Was very wrong, excellent film
A 9 feels more appropriate but i give 9's so rarely and only maybe 10 movies have earned a 10 from me, and 9,s to movies that are the very best. So this isn't quite the very very best of all movies ever but it def is one of the best action movies i've seen all year and it's december. only Thor did i enjoy this much for action this year. Pierce and chan are sooooo good in this. it's very serious. pacing, story, acting all great. super worth watching over dumb movies like kings man sequels , which is all hollywood fluff.
Lucifer (2016)
Comic Fan says so much potential being wasted, he blames writers
Look, I don't care if it sticks with the comics or not, im not the type of person to say, OMG it doesn't follow the source material perfectly. But what i do care about, is a show with a great foundation, and premise, being squandered.
WWHHHHYYYYYYY DOOOOOOEEEEESSSS lucifer, the son of god, the father of evil, the taker or souls, the omnipotent all seeing eye second to none but GOD himself, have absolutely no abilities? Oh wait, he can politely ask people what they desire? Oh lord watch out. I have watched every episode, and its currently in the second season. Somehow i keep watching because I want them to start improving so badly. If he had some power and commanded at least a sliver of respect, from anyone, and did anything besides being attractive to women, i would be all in.
Another HUUUUUUUUUGGGGEEEE gripe, is WHOSE IDEA was it to turn EVERY single lucifer episode into a episode of CSI / every other murder per episode show? The only parts i enjoy is when he talk or acts within the paranormal aspect of the show.
Last thing, as far as acting goes, no real talent here. Save lucifers character. But although the actor does a good job, the character they write for him is predictable and pathetic. The actress who plays his demon bodyguard Mazakien? overacts the hell out of her part. I hate overacting.
Ozark (2017)
I really enjoyed in, Not quite as great as breaking bad, but still really good.
Only a couple shows hold a 10 for me. Thrones and breaking are the only 10's. I have a decent amount of 9's. This show gets a 8.5 from me. Almost a 9. I brought that up because this is very similar to breaking bad. I think the show has even more potential if another season happens. I mean this was just starting up with only one season. I like bateman in this role. I hope he can become a little more bad ass as the show goes on. I know they want him to be the "nice guy", and i don't want him to be as "kingpin" as walt was, but still a little more badass-ness. But with all that sad, i still really enjoyed this show, it was done well. You wont regret watching this.
