The Goop Lab (2020)
Much much better than I expected
Don't get all the one star reviews.
Shows a mixture of stuff there is good scientific basis for (Wim Hof) as well as some dubious stuff. But at no point did I feel like they were trying to sell me anything. Also, where people didn't buy into something, they showed it - eg with the psychic lady.
The Super Weapon (1976)
Fascinating historical martial arts piece
In the days before the UFC the world of martial arts looked very different.
Film is a bit of a mish mash but there is some great athleticism on display and moreover it is super interesting to look st the prevailing martial arts beliefs at the time - that some moves were so deadly they couldn't easily be trained in live sparring and the choreography of the sparring that there was.
The UFC/MMA makes parts of this film look a bit silly, but it's still definitely worth a watch for any martial arts fans.
Into Thin Air: Death on Everest (1997)
Terrible
I have read the book and watched the recent Everest film.
The acting is bad, direction terrible, over the top operatic soundtrack not appropriate, over dramatisation of the deaths disrespectful.
It's also way of the mark in terms of staying accurate to the book and missed several key events. It portrays hero's and villains which Kraukaur never did.
Rob Hall's last call to his wife is almost laughably unbelievable if in realty it hadn't of happened.
Whilst I know John Kraukaur was not supportive of the recent Hollywood effort in terms of accuracy, it is infinitely better in terms of being a respectful tribute to what these people went through.
Only got 2* because I made it to the end of the film.
