Eileen (2023)
I liked it!
I saw Maesro on Saturday and I saw Eileen on Sunday. And much to my surprise, I found Eileen the more enjoyable film. I loved the film Nior feel, the acting was good, there were some nice twists, and more to the point, I could connect the dots. Something that I thought Maestro lacked. I really love films that make go, "Wow! I can't believe that happened." And I really thought the music added a lot to the picture as well. There were no Lenny Bernstein compositions, but the songs were just as integral to the movie.
If you like film Noir, if your like strangeness, and unusual characters, give Eileen a watch. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. As for Maestro, I am not so sure.
And that's my opinion.
Maestro (2023)
Disappointed!
Maybe my expectations were way too high going in, but i have to say I was disappointed going out. By the 3/4 mark I was ready for it to be over. I wanted to love the motive, but struggled to like it. All the pieces were there: great acting, awesome cinematography, and of course the music, but there was no flow. To begin with the movie is no biography, but a study of a marriage. Bradley Copper did a very good job, but there was just something missing and it seemed overly long to me. If you are watching a movie and as it progresses you find yourself asking yourself if you like the movie, maybe the movie is not doing what it should. Some may love it, but I was disappointed.
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1979)
Like Bowie? Go see this!
I just got back from seeing the restored version of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Though the concert film does have some shortcomings as mentioned in other reviews what it does have going for it is the music. The clarity of the music being played is extraordinarily clear and powerful. The band is tight and Mick Ronson plays his ass off. I never new he played so well. In addition, Jeff Beck makes a cameo appearance and plays two songs with the band. Jeff Beck plays a couple of cool solos as well. Though most of the focus is on David and Mick we get the full concert from beginning to end with a couple of backstage shots. If you are even a bit interested go see it. You won't be disappointed.
The Crowded Room (2023)
It took a few episodes, but now it's getting interesting.
This one of those shows that you really have to be patient with. The first few episodes I wasn't convinced, but now it is getting really interesting. The acting from all the main characters is excellent. And the subject matter is so important. I really like that after the initial slow build the story line is becoming clearer and more interesting. So if you are the least bit interested in trauma, or child abuse and the severe effects it can have on children this is the show for you. Throw in multiple personalities and you have a great premise here. But you must have some patience. I wasn't sure at first, but now I am sucked in.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Should have been better!
Based On trailers I had super high expectations for this. Unfortunately, I feel somewhat let down. The humor was a little flat and the action was just okay. Though enjoyable, it should have been better.
Malignant (2021)
Evil Dead like. Awesome!!
If you liked the Evil Dead or movies like that one, you should love this movie. I, for one, was all in for the campiness and gore in Malignant. And to be clear, yes, it was supposed to be campy. I loved how over the top it was and at the same time gave me some well earned laughs. If you like campiness and laughs with your gore, this movie is for you.
