After the Thrones (2016)
Ringer/Grantland is better in print
Nice to see a Grantland-esque studio set up and running again. They provide play by play recaps of the episodes and pepper in analysis and background info on characters. They show where scenes are happening on the world map, this actually helps a lot.
But the overall feel is weird.
This might be mean but I feel Greenwald and Chris Ryan have zero pull when it comes to being on screen outside of podcast recordings on Youtube. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of them as people, I read their recaps on Grantland all season last year and they were the best. Everyone from the Ringer/Grantland including Simmons himself is far better in print.
The Walking Dead: Last Day on Earth (2016)
Absolute disservice to the most defining moment in the show
What a let down. An hour and fifteen minutes of 40% commercials for ANOTHER cliffhanger? When we've been cliffhanged time after time all season long? FOR THE MOST ICONIC SCENE IN THE SHOW??!! At the end of a season!!!
The most frustrating part is how good the episode was until the very last moment. The introduction to the Saviors was excellent, we finally saw how giant of a mob of them there are, and they're all scary armed goons. And the Negan reveal was excellent too. Even though he was not as gargantuan as he is in the comic, he had the smile and charm while maintaining the scariness.
Just such a disservice to the fans who have stuck with this show and all the other garbage TV they've pumped out. I can only speak for myself but they've certainly lost a fan in me.
