Steve! (2024– )
10/10
Profoundly Good and Wholesome
2 May 2024
This doco is like Steve's comedy. It's a beautiful, fascinating story about how Steve became who he is today. I'm amazed by his struggles as a performer in the early days and how resilient he was to continue on. Above all, I appreciate how wholesome and uplifting this was... a little like Steve's humour. He doesn't need to dive in to dark places, insult people or get too political. Neither does this doco. I would only recommend this to those who are Steve Martin fans, would like a bit of nostalgia and an insight into who he is. Watching this brought back those feelings of simpler times. I miss those days.

Beckham (2023)

Even my wife loved it
29 October 2023
She knows nothing about soccer and Indont know much either but honestly, this was absolutely fantastic. The story unfolds like a movie and is abundant in suspense and emotion. What a wonderful achievement. Beckham is such a likeable guy. What a star.

There is so much footage of Beckham. His relationship with his wife is also beautifully portrayed. Posh comes off looking pretty good if you know nothing about soccer, you will likely enjoy this even more than if you are a soccer fan. It was great how they teased things at the end of the episodes. Hard to stop watching. Would be a great guy to have over for dinner.

Real, Deeply Disturbing and Great
29 December 2022
It's hard to pigeon hole this show. It's definitely not a comedy although there are some disturbingly funny moments. It's suspenseful, mysterious, and subtly twisted. What makes it so disturbing is how grounded in reality this show is. It kind of explores things that go on that we try not to acknowledge. It's beautiful to watch. It burns slowly but it's very addictive. This show will leave a mark on you, or perhaps a scar. Both seasons are equally excellent. Season one is probably a little funnier and quirkier but Season two is more Emotionally disturbing. It's great when you come across a show like this.

Great acting but slow, boring and pointless
1 October 2022
* it's great seeing Jeff Bridges and Hohn Lithgow. They are fanatastic.

* the show is so, so slow. Lots of talking in riddles and pointless flashbacks.

* the whole point of the show and the ending could be spoilt in four words. You can see it coming from a mile away.

* there is no ending. Just sets up for another drawn out season.

* I recommend you don't watch this show. My wife and I had to force our way to plod through all the episodes. It was a chore. You do not get any value for the time you will have to give up. It's great to see Jeff Bridges again. You could probably just watch the first two episodes and then the last one and you won't have missed much.

Great show awful awful cgi
23 August 2022
Ok. It's great. Too good to be a tv show really. You can read other peoples reviews BUT the ball CGI was absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen anything so absurd. They obviously taught the actors how to swing a bat but their throwing action looked ridiculous. Please pay someone to teach them how to throw and have someone else do the chi. Any baseball fan would be completely turned off by this.

Otherwise, heart warming and gut wrenching. Very well done.

Great story

Great acting. Superb. Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto were outstanding and I don't even like them much usually.

Interesting story. Hard to believe.

Super slick production.

Good soundtrack.

Interesting characters.

My head just exploded

This is one of the best shows I've ever seen on television. My wife must've thought I was having a heart attack or something. Just kept on saying OMG and Whhaaaaat??? I don't care that some people didn't like it. This is brilliance. It's going to wipe the floor at the Emmys. To think I nearly stopped after episode one. The acting is also perfect. Ben Stiller. Adam Scott. Other actors. Congrats. This is a masterpiece.

Half comedy, Half Drama, All Good
5 March 2022
This isn't just for American football fans. My wife and I are Aussies. She knows nothing about football and she enjoyed it. Unlike most Adam Sandler movies, the over the top gross out humour is played down a bit which is pleasing - except for that ONE scene lol. It's not a comedy - it's a true story but there are certainly laugh out loud moments. Kevin James is the straight guy and shows he is actually a good actor.

If you enjoy easy to watch sport movies with heart this will keep you happy on a. Saturday night.

The most boring show in the history of Sci Fi
6 November 2021
This show looks great. It's acted great but I have never watched something so pointless and boring. I could make a compilation video of what happened in the first five episodes and it would last five minutes. I am so easy to please when it comes to sci fi. I will watch anything but I can't understand how someone was given money to create this. Watch it if you want but be warned, it's not a thriller or a mystery because there is no mystery. It's like unwrapping a one hundred sheets of gift wrapping and finding only air inside.

Blowing our Minds
23 October 2021
My daughter and I are watching this. We have been sci fi fans for many years. This is been blowing our minds. Visually Amazing. Some great characters. We haven't read the books. We will rewatch this as soon as we finish. It's quite complex.

Absolute Garbage
22 September 2021
I am writing this 23 minutes into the episode. I am bored. This is complete garbage. What were they thinking? If it somehow gets better I will come back and rewrite this review. Hang around for 22 minutes and see if I come back.

Persevere despite how much you hate it
12 August 2021
You need to watch the entire two seasons to understand this show. I was quite unsure about this and my wife absolutely hated HATED the first season. We kept watching. Slowly this show grabbed us in a way I can't explain. I am so sad to see the end of this show. It's unique and gut wrenching. It is not a comedy although there are moments that will make you laugh hard.

Gut wrenching, Jaw Dropping, beautiful
10 October 2020
I am six episodes in. The scenery...it's hard to believe some of this is filmed on Planet Earth. At times I am gob smacked. The interactions with locals are beautiful. Ewan is the heart and soul of this series and I mean no disrespect to Charlie who is great. The filming is amazing. I've watched the other two series which are also fantastic. Just makes me want to get of the couch and explore. If you don't like it, that's fine, but is it really necessary for people write such hateful and nasty reviews? Why? Just switch off.

Frustratingly Obvious Flaws
12 September 2020
If you're going to make near future science fiction, you have to pay at least a little respect to the audience's intellect. Astronauts eating at hone a few days before a billion dollar mission. Instantaneous video calls to the moon. A crew that hates each other and has serious personal issues. It's hard to believe these people are meant to be undertaken the most ambitious mission in human history. Didn't anyone making this show speak up and say...um... you can't do that.

Embarrassingly Bad.
14 March 2020
I don't normally write negative reviews but oh my god that was an abomination. The acting was truly awful. I couldn't understand what they were saying half of the time. The ending blew all of our minds and not in a good way. I can't believe Steven Spielberg has put his name to this. Episode - I also hated (although my family liked it) but there wasn't a person in our lounge room who enjoyed this. I know you're probably going to watch it anyway so um...make sure you've got some nice snacks at least.

Better than the Book
10 March 2020
I don't say this often but I thought this was actually better than the novel. Maybe a couple of episodes too long but that's television for you. Great show. Ben Mendehlson is great and I like what they did with Holly's character.

Season Two - Amazing
19 January 2020
I quite enjoyed season one but season two is next level. The first episode of s2 could be a stand alone movie. Quite brilliantly made. Penny is just awesome, as are all the kids. It's not a dead serious sci fi, it's a family show I guess but there are some scary moments. Keen to see what they shows creators can come up with next.

Some Advice for those Watching Rise of Skywalker
20 December 2019
We all come from different universes. Make your own mind up about whether you like this movie. I enjoyed it. So did the rest of my family. Doesn't matter what other people think. If you can do better, Holllywood is waiting for you.

Paul Rudd Surprised me.
26 October 2019
I don't write reviews but I just want to acknowledge this show. It's different. Quirky. Funny. Sad. Reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich. Paul Rudd is amazing. You will forget he's playing both parts. At times this show stuck with me and made me think about my own relationship and my version of myself. And there was this one scene...it will never leave me. Bravo Paul Rudd.

Great Aussie Rom Com
30 September 2019
Just saw this movie at the Deckchair cinema in Darwin. Nobody moved throughout the entire screening and there was applause at the end. Just a simple, fun rom which reminded me of movies such as Bend it Like Beckham and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Great to watch an Aussie movie done well.

I Gave it 1 star. Now I give it 8.
13 June 2019
Okay. I've changed my rating. This movie left me saying wtf as most people will. It's kind of a puzzle that you have to work out. It's very, very hard to work out. I needed help. A lot of help, but it all makes sense and I now realise how clever it is. I'm now going to rewatch what I told my wife was the worst film I've ever seen. There are a couple of good emplanations on YouTube. Watch them after watching the film. Be prepared to be angry and disappointed after first viewing.

Geez. Calm down people. It was fine.
5 July 2018
Just watched this with my class of 30 eleven and twelve year-olds after studying the book. They actually enjoyed the movie more than the book, although they were disappointed when a couple of key moments were left out. The acting by the young cast was fantastic, especially Storm Reid. The music is beautiful. There were a few spine tingling moments and some of my students shed a tear or two. I think it really helps to have read the book and if you haven't read it recently, you might find it's not as great as you remembered. It's a movie for kids. They gave it a 7 out of ten. I give it a six.

Beautiful, Heart Warming, Terrifying, Sexy, Surreal.
6 July 2015
I've been an IMDb member for many, many years and yet this is my first ever review. I found then first few episodes kind of slow and confusing but let me tell you, this is outstanding television. There were many moments were I wanted to leap off the couch and scream YES! It had my adrenalin pumping hard. I found some of those moments so satisfying. The acting throughout is truly incredible. Similar to lost, don't watch it for the sci fi or to find out answers. Just simply watch it for the story of the eight main characters. The sci fi is in some ways a minor element. Watch this is you liked Lost and Heroes. Congrats to all who created this series - it's a remarkable achievement.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
26 March 2009
The good: Strong start to the movie, the plot hooks you in, excellent sound, confronting disaster scenes, haunting images, Rose Byrne, at times quite freaky, The Bad: Special effects looked like they were from a video game, ripped off basically every science fiction movie ever made, poor acting from Nic Cage, very predictable.

The Ugly: Last third of movie was shamefully ridiculous.

Summary: If you are a science fiction fan, you will probably not be able to resist seeing this movie. Be warned, you will think you are seeing the sci-fi great that you have been waiting for but mid way the film gets lost. You may very well groan out loud at the ending. This had the makings of a great movie but unfortunately it couldn't come up with the goods.
