A disgrace
24 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a true fan of the franchise I did not expect much of this movie and even then got disappointed.

Weak story aside, the main actress Melissa Barrera delivered a massively underwhelming performance which made me cringe every time she was on screen. This was even more obvious when she shared the screen with Jenna Ortega who outshines her by miles with her immense talent.

But what bothered me the most were the uber-human bodies that most of the characters apparently had. Multiple stab wounds and broken bones? - Nothing that would hinder you fighting against ghostface like a pro wrestler. Got shot? - Let's have a chat at the side of the road since even the paramedics don't think this is something that should be treated at the hospital.

Scenes that could have been emotional weren't, especially since Courtney Cox's face is too liftet to be able to show anything.

Cringy lines, soulless delivery. This movie shows exactly why this franchise should finally die.

Pretty great as a stand-alone series
27 February 2023
Disclaimer: I have never seen the original series - not even a single episode.

I started watching this reboot more out of curiosity and the visual cheesyness that I took away from the trailer. This being said, I absolutely enjoyed every single episode! For me, the series embraces the charme off old cartoon series from that time, has very good animation, voice acting, action build up and emotional scenes. Since I am not emotionally attached to He-Man as a character, I am not disappointed by him being barely a side character and Teela being the main act. Of course, this series gives mostly the woman a voice and their point of view. This you can like or not, that's up to you.

Highly entertaining for someone who doesn't know the franchise at all and embraces old style cartoon goofiness.

Unlikeable characters, lazy stereotypes
19 June 2021
The first season is quite watchable and I enjoyed it at times, but when the second season came around the characters started to shift from charismatic to either annoying or plain mean. Especially woman are pictured superficial, arrogant, dumb and opportunistic which I found very offensive at times. If you have a series about inclusion and breaking stereotypes, why represent women in all stereotypes there are? The only character that really carries the whole series is the mother of the main character which has plenty os facets, needs and outshines everyone in this series. I would have loved a series with her as the protagonist, struggling with everything that comes along with being a parent of a disabled child.

I grew to hate the main character of this series, who is just unfair to people surrounding him and even condemns people who are supportive of him and his disabled friends. The only message I got was "Well, you do it wrong by acknowledging their disability and even worse if you don't."

Confusing messages, unlikeable characters but entertaining at times.

Very underrated and needs more love
24 April 2021
What a wonderful slow burn creepy movie about dementia and what it makes out of a loved one. This movie had me creeped out the whole time. Not with cheap jump scares but with never-ending tension, dark and melancholic atmosphere and solid acting by all included. I couldn't foresee the ending and always asked myself what is real and what isn't.

Give it try, if you appreciate subtle horror with old school goosebump factor!

Went from a promising dark teen series to a total train wreck
6 January 2021
The series starts strong in the first season with interesting characters and a dark tone, that the original didn't have. But sadly it all goes down quickly for an almost lighthearted goofy series at the end, including lots of singing and dancing and mysterious strong characters turning into silly shadows of themselves at the end. Characters who have had a strong goal seem to just be carried away to a point of just existing for the sake of being there. Character development jumps back and forth, in one episode they feel this way, in another they feel the opposite and so on. Furthermore the story becomes more ridiculous on every episode leading to a total train wreck that is the finale.

I really recommend the first season and then just forget that there are three more to watch.

Better than expected
24 October 2020
I didn't expect much, but this one is really entertaining from start to end. Solid acting by the main actors, good amount of gore and graphic details to keep it fun for those who care and not a boring minute. A good watch.

Building up to a reveal that never comes
14 March 2020
Honestly, I thought the movie was not as bad a most people say on this platform. It has its okay story, likable characters and every potential to be a good movie. The weakest part of it is the fact, that it's building up to a big ending, a reveal, a big explanation and then lets you hang there with an ending so pointless that I felt insulted after spending 2h watching this movie. With a good ending the movie could have saved itself, but missed this opportunity to do so. Very unsatisfying.

Underrated Atmospheric Ghost Drama
2 January 2020
This movie is just beautiful and entertaining and I can't figure out why it has such a bad rating. It's a movie that doesn't need jump scares to be suspenseful and is played wonderfully by all actors. The overall atmosphere, storyline and music is convincing and I totally recommend this movie if you like slow paced, atmospheric/melancholic (ghost) movies.

Germans aren't funny - except when they are
3 October 2018
Normally I really despise German comedy, especially when they try to imitate American humour. But this show embraces German unfunnyness and makes it very hilarious. No obvious jokes but more subtle between the lines humour. Every episode tackles a sensitive topic from a very different and opposite point of view, which makes you think about it in a new way yourself. All actors are character actors them self and Bjarne Mädel is totally lovable as simple but goodhearted cleaning staff. If you expect over the top "I slipped on a banana and that's very funny" jokes, you won't be enjoying this show. BUT if you enjoy subtle between the line jokes and high quality dialogues, please watch it and you won't regret it!

Great series - terrible leading actress
23 June 2018
I just finished the first season and can't agree with the mostly negative reviews this series has gotten so far. I deeply enjoyed watching every episode. The acting is decent - except of the main actress who looks the same in every situation. Is she mad? Is she sad? Is she desperate? - Who knows!? Her face doesn't tell you anything. The supporting actors on the other side really get their emotions together and have a great dynamic. The plot itself is quite simple but nontheless very suspenseful. Mainly because they focus on the single characters and their development, which is highly enjoyed.

Give it a try if you like character based series with sometimes slow pacing and (mostly) great acting.

Black Panther (2018)

Best recent Marvel movie
21 March 2018
To be honest and I know it's not a popular opinion, but recent Marvel movies really started to bore and annoy me with their overuse of cheap slap stick humour and degreasing character development (GotG Vol.2, Thor:Ragnarök). Black Panther surprised me not only with great new visuals but also amazing and interesting characters right there where the last movies just failed. Basic but solid story and great execution. I am glad I watched it in the theatres!

Totally underrated - Nice Body Horror
9 February 2018
I wouldn't go as far as saying this movie is as good as "Hellraiser" or "The Thing" but it has definitely its potential. Good body horror seems to be rare these days and "The Void" is pretty nice on the eyes. The movie has great visuals and I couldn't keep my eyes off the screen.

If you appreciate old school body horror - "The Void" won't disappoint you.

Just slapsticks and no soul
17 November 2017
To be honest, after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 I realized, that Marvel strips all characters of their identities and makes them quirky funny slap stick monkeys. No time for building an emotional scene anymore, it's far more important to make funny faces and get some laughs. Same goes for Thor - Ragnarok.

Time for deep villains with good background story? Nah - "I am evil, just because." This concept slowly starts to bore me. Hela has only one purpose: look sexy and change her hairstyle every two minutes because her spiky head piece needs all the recognition.

On top of that, you rush through the movie as if there is no tomorrow. One scene jumps to another, funny faces, crotch jokes - next scene.

If the final fight wasn't that epic I would give the movie just 6 points.

Marvel movies more and more become films for a brain dead audience and this annoys me more than it should.

Power Rangers (2017)

Shallow but entertaining
6 November 2017
Those who just want to see Power Ranger Morphin Time and some action will be fine with this. I certainly was very entertained. And they even tried to give each of them a backstory and something unique - except the yellow ranger girl, who is so amazingly plane with no real issues or character trades except to be the gay one. Having a loving family must be hard on her...

The girls in this movie are really left out and even totally look the same. The first 20 Minutes I actually thought they would be one and the same person. Both dark hair, same length, same eye color, same pretty face. I was actually confused when the five of them stood together and asked myself "Who is that other girl!?" She just appears out of nowhere without character introduction whatsoever.

The movie does a good job combining cool looks and usual Power Ranger cheese. No masterpiece but quite entertaining.

The Mist (2017)

Very enjoyable and underrated
20 October 2017
To be clear, I never read the book and just watched the movie, so I can't feel as disappointed as all the die hard Stephen King lovers out there. From my perspective this series is very underrated.

The atmosphere is well done, decent acting and no boring minute at all. The only thing I must confess are the overall unlikable characters and everyone turns out to be an ass. Even the few characters you find likable at the beginning lose their appeal after a while. So the series turns out to be a story of people you most likely want to die. All of them.

Still watchable and I am very sad that it got canceled for a second season.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Better than expected
16 June 2017
As the title says, the movie is better than you would expect from a DC-film and by far better than Suicide Squad. They used the solid Marvel recipe to make a good comic book hero movie and it's very entertaining through the whole movie. A couple of jokes but not as slap stick plane as Marvel tends to use nowadays and quite impressive visuals.

Not as empowering as the media wants us to believe, since it's still a beauty queen jumping around in her undies and high heel boots, but worth the while.

See it, you will be entertained.

Too much exposition and no deep thoughts and philosophy
4 April 2017
I think those who down voted this flick because they were disappointed are to harsh. Of course, if you compare the movie to the original Anime, it's hard to deny that it's just a vague shadow of the original source and idea. But if you see it as it's own movie you will be entertained with stunning visuals and nice action, so it deserves at least 6 points for "effort".

Now to the downside of the movie if you want to actually compare it. It feels like the children's book version of the Anime. EVERYTHING has to be explained, nothing keeps unsaid for your own imagination. Ghost in the Shell was about the question what makes us human, what is life. But not in this way this movies tries to tell us. If life can give birth itself out of data, how can we define it? This movie sadly skips this part and the main question is "who was I before I became a robot?". Dear film makes, no one cares! It misses all the depth what made the original so special. The slow scenes to think, to create atmosphere...

Like so many others already said; it's more of a reboot of RoboCop than it's of Ghost in the Shell.

No time for emotions
25 March 2017
It's very sad to see, that the animated movie from the 90s has had more sense of timing and creating atmosphere. The remake is alright, but it misses the opportunity to create real emotions and strong relationships between the characters. And to be honest, Emma Watson didn't put many emotions or any kind of good acting in this movie. There is a huge party on the table, plates and bowls are dancing and making a fuzz and all she does is stare and smile. I would flip the f*** out if my dinner would dance and sing around me! The animation of the beast is questionable as well and I think Disney could have put much more effort in it. But at the same time Lumiere and all the other furniture were animated really well and if they are in the scene, you'll have a good time! To wrap this up, it's an enjoyable movie but misses the opportunity to create emotions or any kind of atmosphere.

Scream: The TV Series (2015–2019)
6/10
Cheap acting and plain characters
19 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Since the series has nothing to do with the movies at all, I won't treat it that way. The story it self is very Scream-alike. Somewhat predictable but also quite entertaining. What really annoys me is the stereotypical American setup. The group of rich top model friends, the first world problems / over dramatising of minor issues and forced social media usage. This whole "look at her facebook profile and this video went viral. It's like Games of Thrones etc" annoyed me a lot through the first season. Next to all the illogical behavior of the main character bothered me as well. There is a corpse at a party, everyone runs away and no one bothered to call the police? Very unlikely. And if the villain says "Don't call the cops" it's beyond stupid to go there alone and let your friends be killed because, well, you didn't call the cops.

Over all it's targeted to teens I guess, so this whole "omfg, the video of us kissing was leaked, now my life is over and the video of two girls kissing goes crazy viral" yeah... as an adult this is somewhat laughable.

But every time I got bored by the plain acting a slasher scene came up, so it kept me entertained. Well played.

Hollow (I) (2011)

Okay story unlikable characters
11 January 2017
As my previous reviewers already said, the main issue with this movie isn't the story but the characters itself. None of them is likable, starting from a hysterical whiny woman who seems to be the main character but you want her dead so badly, to her douche boyfriend, her somewhat acceptable friend and his absolutely plane blonde girlfriend. All of them screaming around and running into circles just by hearing a bird. The story could have been really interesting if they would focus on that, but they chose to give us a glimpse of the personal issues of the characters, but not that much so we could possibly care about.

Overall nice to watch once, but there are definitely better mockumentaries out there.

Lights Out (II) (2016)

Plane characters, nice start but unsatisfying ending
17 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
-A few spoilers ahead-

A lot of previous reviewer already talked about the overuse of jump scares (which I don't mind) and plot holes regarding Diana. But what bothers me the most is the ridiculous approach to turn an American barbie actress into a metalhead. The actress and even her apartment look so bloody fake and plane. I don't think any metalgirl would paint her flat pastel green and covers it up with metal band posters, not to mention that actress herself. Little blondielocks paints her nails black and now she is a metalhead? Typical American movie making that doesn't care a lot about characters and character development, just focusing on a nice booty. Even the little brother behaves like a little adult and talks like no child would ever talk.

Nice little horror flick, but easily forgettable. Nothing new here.
