De slag om de Schelde (2020)
Brilliant movie.
Great story, good acting and directing. How true this was I don't know, while the battle was real, I don't know if the characters were real too. I'd watch it again sometime it was that good.
Survive or Die (2018)
It did have a message for refugees, but...
It did have a message for refugees, but I only watched this for entertainment. Sadly I found it very boring, with lots of unexplained and illogical bits.
Dark Canyon (2012)
Don't take any notice of the score
This is a great movie, well scripted, well filmed, good acting and a damn good story. With the odd twist and turns. I'd watch it again sometime.
Kamp Holland (2016)
A damned good movie.
More on the experiences and decisions of the ordinary soldier, who is handicapped by illogical 'rules of engagement'. While there are some action scenes, they are not overdone and seem realistic. I recommend this movie.
Sicario (2015)
Absolutely Brilliant
Damn, I have no finger nails left! It's a brilliant movie, so glad I watched it. Well scripted, well acted and well filmed .
T-34 (2018)
Brilliant war movie.
Great story, great filming, great special effects, great acting.
The Luminaries (2020)
Very difficult to understand and follow
This TV series taken from the award winning book, I found disappointing. While the acting was good, the sets and scenery also good as was the casting. But it jumps backwards and forwards so many times, I got lost and confused much of the series. Wished I hadn't started to watch it, but had to suffer through to find out what happened in the end. Why do they do this to award winning novels?
Allied (2016)
Brad Pitt as I'd never seen him before.
A damn great movie, well acted, authentic looking scenery vehicles etc. Fast moving and an excellent script. The action and battle scenes are well done and realistic, even nail biting in parts. If I wanted to be picky, I could say that shouldn't have happened, or this didn't look right. But hey, this is only for entertainment, not educational.
Yesterday's Enemy (1959)
An oldie but a goodie.
An oldie but a goodie and well worth watching. A pity it wasn't in colour though, it would have been easier to follow what was happening in the jungle.
Frontera (2014)
So many twists and turns, but all believable.
A damn good movie, as most of all Ed Harris' movies are. You never knew what to expect until it happened and everything that did happen was logical and believable. It's also and eye opener for those who don't live on the Arizona/Mexican border, to see what happens there and the desperate situations that occur.
Dunkirk (2017)
Ignore all the armchair critics for this movie.
A very good depiction of the actual events at Dunkirk, even if some parts were a little unrealistic. Such as rifle bullets going through the steel plate hull of a fishing vessel. For the most part (with the odd exception) the special effects and CGI's were very good and the story line excellent. There were no main characters to this version, as everybody portrayed was a hero, even the lowly privates. Glad I was able to watch this and all credit to those involved.
The Replacement (2017)
A disappointing series.
Started with the promise of plenty of suspense in the first two episodes. However the climax was totally unbelievable and lacked any logic. Also I think it could have been filmed in just two episodes and not as three. I now regret having wasting my time watching this series. A disappointment as it started so well.
Age of Heroes (2011)
Reasonably good movie.
Apart from the model aircraft used, for example the three ME 109s strafing and bombing at the start and the burning bomber with a whole wing on fire - then it's not too bad a movie. The combat action scenes and the acting I thought were very good. The locations were excellent and there were quite a few twists and turns of the plot in that one never knew what might happen next. Or who, if anyone was going to get away safely to Sweden. One thing I didn't think rang true and realistic was those of the survivors reaching the Swedish border, then acting as though it was just a simple walk across the border. There were always German guards patrolling the border, looking out for escapees and others trying to get into Sweden.
