They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
This film IS 10/10. One of the greatest and most important documentaries ever produced.
This documentary must go down in history as one of the greatest and most important ever. What Peter Jackson has done here is brilliant and visionary. I have never felt so intimately close with the characters of documentary film. And I have never really seen a documentary that had a narrative structure like this one. It plays out like a story, and it's all real. Raw, horrific, terrifying and enfuriating at times. We have to learn from these things. We can't have millions dying for little or no purpose. And this war was so brutal and savage. I didn't realize just how horrific things were for the men who fought this war. I really appreciated the end of the film as well.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Bad fan fiction...weird, bizarre...inconsistent with Tolkiens works
This show is really dreadful because it's trying to use Tolkiens universe and fanbase to push a weird fan fiction that is totally inconsistent with the universe its placed in. It's laughably bad at some parts. Some of the visuals aren't good either and for a show with this budget and hype that's inexcusable in my opinion. Actress who plays Galadriel is pretty but the character is NOT Galadriel. I don't think I cam watch another minute of this show. It makes Peter Jacksons worst moments from The Hobbit look like works of genius in comparison. This fan fiction is barely even a fan fiction because the makers don't even seem like fans.
Wee Willie Winkie (1937)
It's a tear-jerker. A story of innocence, war, peace and friendship.
If you're watching this movie strictly as a Shirley Temple film, you're probably one of the people giving it 6 stars and complaining about it's length. And that's ok. But this is a great film, and a timeless film if you ask me. The meeting at the end between Khoda Khan and Shirley Temple makes it worth the watch alone. But the story is really rooted in the innocence of the child, and her loving nature. She comes to a place that's hard to live "even for a soldier" and befriends Sgt. McDuff. And that friendship is what carries the film I think. Of course she also ends up getting her grandfather to show his lighter side as well, but it's not about her relationship with her grandfather so much as it is her relationship with her friend, McDuff. McDuff trains her to March and carry arms, gifts her a uniform, and gets her a dog she wants. He loved this little girl and she loved him. When McDuff dies, it's as heartbreaking a scene as you will find in movies. The funeral scene a perfect touch, John Ford directed this film beautifully. When Priscilla (Shirley Temple) mourns his death, she asks herself "why did McDuff have to die? Why does there have to be a war?". And this isn't some "anti-war" film or a film with a political agenda. This is just a film of friendship and innocence, and this child experiences death and wonders why it has to happen. She asks her grandfather and she asks his enemy, Khoda Khan. Her authentic, innocent and sincere questions and begging of Khoda Khan not to go to war couldn't be ignored. And thanks to her, war was avoided.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Funny and Fun!
Hey this movie is exactly what I want when I'm watching a movie on Netflix. It's got a little bit of everything, it's really well done. Plenty of laughs to be had, Sandler/Aniston are great together.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Bittersweet ending and awesome action
The heroes leaving it out all there and sacrificing their lives in the end really speaks to the soul. Black widow fighting to sacrifice herself was so sad and beautiful at the same time. I cried when Iron Man finally let go. Gwyneth Paltrow absolutely crushed it in that scene, her telling him that they're gonna be ok and he can let go...ðŸ˜. Gut-wrenching! Emotional scenes all over; Captain America seeing his love for the first time in ages throw the window with the blinds, that was great stuff. Iron Man's relationship with his daughter...just all kinds of really awesome moments. Heroes were brave and sacrificial, they showed true love and it was awesome. There were a couple liberal-ish, pseudophilosophical bits here and there. "Don't be who you're supposed to be, be who you are." Sounds like irresponsible rubbish to me. The redefining of what a hero by Thor's Mom made no sense, but it was brief and negligible. And the little moment where all the girls get together to fight was patronizing in my opinion.
Yes, some of the writing was cheesy. It wasn't as bad as some are complaining about. The 3 hours didn't feel bad to me. The movie kept moving along and kept me engaged and interested. Anyone who gets that bent out of shape about the time travel stuff needs to just stop watching movies. If you can't suspend your belief at all you can't enjoy a movie. Captain America being able to wield Thor's hammer was cool but I have no idea where that came from. But I also didn't really care at that point. It didn't offend me and it was fun and it didn't take away from anything good in the fim. The score was good, visuals were 10/10 of course. The final battle scene was the best large battle on screen since LOTR battles. It was really good, I am looking forward to watching it again sometime!
Ad Astra (2019)
Not a sci-fi and a poor drama film.
Save your money. Not worth it. The first 10-15 min shows how it's not a sci-fi because the science and physics of the film are a total joke. It's like they didn't even try to get that part right. Then the script is bad, it sounds like a made for a video game or something. Not good. It gets interesting when you find out that he's sent to find his Dad and that keeps your interest for a min but it gets so ridiculous. The unexplained baboon it app on the space ship was beyond stupid. Brad Pitt is a good actor and he did fine and the music was solid, beautifully shot film excellent visuals and cinematography. The story just sucks and that's from a fan who likes movies are are not typical etc. It's a bad father-son film, the final message is so basic it isn't worth 2 hours to wait for. Only 2 hours but kind of drags. Brad Pitt is too old to just randomly be finding himself at age 55 anyways. Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and Liv Tyler are all in this movie for about 3 shots each. Useless characters almost. Strange movie just too weird and no redemption or sense of direction.
The Good Place (2016)
The best show ever....? Like seriously!
I don't know what anyone could possibly want in a show that this doesn't have. It's brilliant. Kristen Bell is stud. Ted Danson is ageless apparently, the supporting cast are gonna win Emmy's. The writing in this show is the best since 30 Rock and honestly it's probably better because the show intrinsically requires more intelligence. Awesome sauce.
Robin Hood (1973)
No good reason this film isn't more celebrated
Maybe it's because it's a little more serious or dark in the middle to end, or because it has a rich tyrant exploiting the weaker and less priviledged of society? Idk I am literally guessing why anyone would hate this movie. It is portrayed with animals and there's just enough of Bambi type cuteness and innocence in it to balance out the more serious parts of the film. Great film all the way around.
Pinocchio (1940)
How is this NOT 10/10 by user review?
This might be the best Disney fil ever made folks. It's entertaining, Oscar winning song and music. Unforgettable characters...action and suspense, makes you laugh and cry. Idk what's else anyone would look for. Maybe the whole of idea having to "brave, truthful and unselfish" to grow up and be a "real boy" makes some uncomfortable.
Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable (2018)
I don't quite get the negative reviews.
I am a big Eddie Murphy fan. I like Rodney Dangerfield. Bill Burr. Jerry Seinfeld. Jim Gaffigan. I like comedians; I like the art and the uniqueness of each comics craft, etc. I have watched Ellen's show at random for the last 16 years. It's great, she's a totalstud. The comedy special didn't have a "climax" if you will. I'm sure there was an attempt at one but I think that's what we missed. But I laughed at some great jokes. The joke about the step ladder is great. And even the setup for it was good. Tall guy invented it, had other aspirations besides helping short people forever...that's brilliant! Lol. The jokes about her money are all just jokes and are obviously toungue in cheek. She was showing that even a wealthy person can relate to the masses. Because we all forget to grab towels before we shower and end up trying to get across the bathroom to get one. And we can all laugh at parking on the wrong side of the gas pump twice in a row. We can relate with being afraid to take chances or be our true selves because we fear people won't like us if we are ourselves. Anyways, I don't get the hate. I think it is well worth the watch. There are a couple of lulls but she is a funny gal and they aren't for very long. Overall solid material, I liked the theme and I hope she does more stand-up. I think most people watching enjoyed this and she had a good crowd that got most of her jokes. So 8/10!
