Last Man Standing (1996)
Seen it all before.
Definitely not Walter Hill's strongest outing. Dern is severely underused in this, not so subtle, "A Fistful of Dollars". The gun mechanics are kinda cool, with the over the top action literally throwing people dozens of feet.
Clarice (2021)
Set in the 90s with to much of a 21st century point of view.
What a great little series. Sure there are a few little things that slow it down, like them not being able to use Hannibal's name and the continual pushing back on the release of individual episodes. The biggest negative for me was the whole black coalition side arc that really had no legs; partially because it was a prejudice contest to see who was persecuted more and that really took away from Clarice's fight as a woman in a male dominated workplace. All in all though, I do hope for a second season.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Nobody asked for this.
They've turned Dexter into a teen drama full of plot devices. I find myself wanting everyone to be killed and am disappointed every episode someone doesn't.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Come on Netflix
Predictable, campy and not enough space for this cowboy. It felt like Scott Pilgrim meets Firefly, and that is not in any way a compliment. Not to mention the terrible casting, which I'm sure is part of the reason the fight scenes were so stiff and unbelievably choreographed; the extras were better martial artists.
Fright Night Part 2 (1988)
Sequels don't suck.
Has the same feel as the first, the music has a lot to do with that. New and dynamic characters, and death scenes. Make-up and effects were also on par with the original.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
Deadpan fun
I really enjoyed this, despite being turned off initially by the bad reviews. Great star-studded cast who all excel at deadpan, small town America humour. I especially loved the 4th wall breaks and the awesome dust effect as opposed to blood. This is how you do horror comedy.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
What a let down.
Proof that a great cast can't fix terrible writing; Not to mention the choreography, Gillan is so stiff she never looks comfortable in the movie.
Superman: Red Son (2020)
💩
Who writes this garbage? A very obviously American view of how communists/Marxist's purportedly think.
He Got Game (1998)
Overrated
Full of awkward, clunky dialogue. The pacing is slow and full of odd little montages, especially the gratuitous nudity filled tirade care of Big Time Willie. On top of all that I'd hoped for a good soundtrack care of Public Enemy, nah, a couple good tunes but the rest of the soundtrack seems like it was created for a completely different movie. It doesn't flow at all; speaking of which, what an odd ending.
Yasuke (2021)
???
Afro Samurai this is not, nor is it Seven Samurai, yet it has elements of both. I don't think the show really knows what it wants to be. I can tell you what it should have been and that's a strict period piece.
Mindhunters (2004)
Excellence was in sight.
Great premise with an amazing cast. Although it's hampered by some cringey dialogue and increasingly poor decision-making by supposed top-of-the-class FBI profilers.
Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
All show and no tell.
This rating is strictly for the amazing visuals by the animation department. Talos is great, the harpies are very underrated and the skeleton fight scene is so well crafted. Story and acting feel like a serialized daytime tv show.
The Tax Collector (2020)
🙃
The first half starts off strong and has potential, but falters in the second with poorly written fight scenes and little character development.
Shaft (2019)
Weak
Weak and under used female characters and unlikable lead. The only saving grace was Jackson and Roundtree.
Secret of the Incas (1954)
Ohhh Charlton...
Terribly cut, cringe worthy dialogue and "subtle" prejudice on top of lack of consent. Pass on this one and go straight to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Through My Father's Eyes (2019)
Comes off like a home movie
I love Ronda, but this film was shot, cut and soundtracked like an amateur.
