Ana Yurdu (2015)
Underrated film
While not a full-fledged one, it is an underrated movie that will be discovered years later as a hidden treasure.
Although there are some inexperiences, the overall feel of the movie is very strong. I think it is a movie that has a surprise for those who have patience, even if it is difficult to get in at first.
I would also like to state that the actor who played the lunatic should be especially mentioned.
There is nothing to be exaggerated about, but it is a film that should be kept separate from the works made in its period.
Senem Tüzen should be congratulated for a stunning debut film. I hope it's not a coincidence and she continues to make strong movies.
Ronny Chieng: Speakeasy (2022)
much talk, little work
He spent the last part insulting the intelligence of anyone who might criticize him, and that's exactly why I'm here. I gave the gentleman three stars because I smiled three times in the entire show. A good vlogger could break this show down into a fun 3 minute Vimeo video. And in this video, you can see every funny part of the show. Unfortunately...
Hiroshima mon amour (1959)
A painful memory that only Hiroshima can bring out
There is no doubt that Hiroshima mon amour is a true masterpiece, both in terms of cinematography and artistry. It is one of the rarest examples of the art of cinema, not only in terms of the way it is handled, but also the subjects it deals with.
The film subtly brings to the surface how destructive the true desire rebelling against social norms can be, through the indescribable sufferings of Hiroshima. Only being witness a catastrophe as painful as that of Hiroshima can trigger the revealing of the memories of a misery that is endured as the cost of pure love.
It can be said that Resnais asserts "pure desire must be, if necessary, as destructive as the atomic bomb."
