The Gruffalo (2009)
Fantastic!!
My son (who is 8) and I really enjoyed this. The animation is fantastic, the voices are great! We've been huge Gruffalo fans for years and I was worried that they would add to it, or take something from the charm but they did this brilliantly. The animal characters are well thought out, each given its own personality in the very small time they are on. It was funny and lovely to watch. The animals are beautifully done, the scenery is gorgeous. You could almost climb into the TV, really felt alive. I would recommend this to any parent and really any adult too. Tiny tiny drawback is the pace it quite slow, but its such a small drawback I still think is earns a well deserved 10/10! Can't rave about this enough, Well done BBC!
Jane Eyre (2006)
Where's the story gone?
When I saw the cast list for Jane Eyre I was really happy and I must admit Jane is brilliant and Rochester is great too! But what have they done to the story?????? Why why why do they feel they have to add weird non-sensicle things that are NOTHING to do with Jane eyre and then cut the important bits down to a few minutes of rushed speech?? The scene where they finally tell each other they love each other is squeezed into about 2 Mins! They could've cut the added bits, still stuck to the story and actually let the viewer have a minute to see what was going on, not throw them into the next scene like a world-wind. I don't want to sound like I'm saying the acting is bad, because its great but give the poor things a chance to get their teeth into a scene! They have completely cut the bit where Jane and Rochester talk after the wedding! That was one of the most powerful parts in the book! I spent my evening screaming at the t.v not crying at the sadness of the story! Sorry, but this is my fave book and I can't ever understand why people think they should change it! There is a very good reason why it has been a fave for so many years! Maybe pay more attention to the actual book not the way you would like to adapt it to your own version!!!!
Shrek the Third (2007)
Shrek for adults.....NOT for children!
Spoilers!!! I love the first two films, I could watch them every week and not get tired! My now six year old son has loved them since he was two and can quote huge chunks out of them, so we were really excited to finally see one at the cinema! But half way through he was bored, and asked when we could go home! If I had gone by myself I would have been perfectly happy! It is a great film, the graphics are amazing! The scene of the funeral was amazing and the jokes are really funny! But this is NOT a kids movie! Some of the scenes are too much for a kid to take in! Shreks dream, the frog dying then coming back to life, then dying all over again just left him confused. All the stuff about Shrek not wanting to be a dad went on for FAR too long for a child to handle! Most of the jokes an under 10 year old would not get! Puss' accent was lost on him most of the time, he kept asking what he had said. All in all, I would recommend this for ANY adult or teen, but leave your younger children at home with the first two!
