Dr. Death (2021)
Season 1 - Great Story, Horrible Editing
This is such a great story. It makes you hate Dr. Duntsch and want retribution SO BAD. This is such an unbelievable story that it's hard to believe it's true. But the major issue is with the editing and how they decided to show the story jumping around from past, present, and future. Right when you finally figure out where you are in the story, they jump to another year. They do this until you are so confused that you have no idea what's going on anymore. There was absolutely no reason to do this either. They should've just told the story from start to finish in chronological order. But they had to get cute and it completely took away from the story and took away the satisfaction the ending is supposed to bring. Perfect example of doing way too much. That being said, the show is still worth watching, it is infuriating, but such a compelling story that it's worth a watch. It will make you hate Christopher Duntsch so much, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. The most outrageous thing to me in the whole story was how so many people let him get away with it and did nothing to stop him. In fact, the only reason he was able to continue harming so many people was because so many people stood by and did nothing, or even assisted him in his evil practices. Especially Baylor Plano, they knew exactly what he was and still even gave him a letter of recommendation that allowed him to keep getting jobs and continue to perform surgeries. I don't understand what he got out of continuing to do these surgeries when he knew he was incapable of it. He is definitely one of the sickest individuals I have ever heard of in my life.
Justified: City Primeval: The Smoking Gun (2023)
Such Great Build Up For The Ultimate Letdown
This was a great episode all the way until the end. I loved this season bc Raylan seemed to have matured. He explained to Norbert earlier in the season that he wanted to get Clement the right way, not just kill him or set him up to die. It was almost exactly the same lines Art would tell him so often in the original Justified. But now after all the corruption Raylan has seen, he realizes the only way to get it done is to go back to his roots and force Clement to pull, and just shoot the man himself. And we FINALLY get there, it's Raylan vs. Clement, exactly what we want, exactly like Tommy Bucks from the 1st ever episode of Justified. It would have been so poetic to have Raylan just finish it right there. Everything was perfectly set up, it's a call back to the first ever episode, PERFECT. Episode 8 could then have been Raylan dealing with the ramifications of shooting Clement, as he has so many times in the past (and a perfect opportunity to bring in a cameo of ADA David Vasquez!). And Raylan going after all the dirty cops in the judges book. But they don't do that.. they ruin it by having the Albanians come in. Like Raylan wouldn't have backup, and like he would so easily willingly give up the gun and get in the car with them. I think the season has been really good and I have faith they will wrap it up the right way, but it just seems like they really missed a great opportunity to give the fans the Justified everyone knows and loves, Raylan one on one, first to pull, shootout to the death. Maybe we will still get it, fingers crossed! And still hoping for any cameo at all from one of the classic Justified characters, Tim, Rachel, Art, Boyd, Wynn Duffy... cmon give us something at least!
Hijack (2023)
Would Not Reccomend Wasting Your Time
This show had a lot of promise and the first couple of episodes had me hooked. But then it quickly became clear that they were just going to try to drag this out for 7 episodes, and it got a lot less interesting. The entire plot with them trying to land the plane to get medical attention for the hijacker was ridiculous. But the reason I could never recommend this show to anyone is because of the ending. The only interesting part of the show left was the terrorists. Who were they? How did they have so much power? Are they going to get away with kidnapping family members and did those family members get saved? Who was the leader and was he ever killed or arrested? They don't answer any of these questions, not one. Extremely frustrating because that was the only reason I even kept watching, I had to know those answers. But apparently with this show there aren't any answers. Plus, I haven't even gotten into how Idris Elba is supposed to be this expert negotiator, but we never really see him do anything special. We hardly see any of the expert skills he is supposed to have. He pretty much spends the entire show just acting like he's better than all the other passengers. I kept waiting for him to be the hero but by the time that moment came, all the drama was gone and I didn't even care anymore. I still would have rated it a lot higher (because despite all this, it was exciting at times) if they would have done a remotely good job of wrapping everything up. I kept checking how much time was left because I couldn't believe they were going to end the show without giving us the answers about the terrorists. They wasted so much time on the forced showdown between Idris Elba and the main high jacker, and the whole thing just felt ridiculous the entire time. Like they would ever let that guy free to just walk around and grab the gun. So stupid, and that was just it. It was an abrupt ending that didn't answer anything about why the high jacking happened, who was the real people behind it, and the ramifications and aftermath of it all. I mean if those terrorists that planned it all are still alive, wouldn't they be going after Idris Elba and his family still? They ended the show only 3/4 of the way through the story. And that is why I would say don't waste your time watching this show.
Justified: City Primeval: Kokomo (2023)
Another Wild Episode, Classic Justified
We are getting Raylan in full form now, smooth as could be, per usual. I wasn't sure if the show would be able to catch the classic Justified feel, but it certainly has and some. The part I like the most is that Clement Mansell is just as smooth as Raylan is, just in the complete opposite way. They are actually very alike, always keep their cool, killers, smooth talkers... it is setting up an epic showdown between the two. I think it is going to end up being a sad ending for the lawyer and Sweetie, based on the foreshadowing in this episode. But all Justified fans should rejoice, the show is back like it never left, with thrilling episodes one after another, just like we remember the original. Still hoping for a Boyd Crowder cameo somehow!
Justified: City Primeval: Backstabbers (2023)
Another Great Justified Criminal
Boyd Holbrook is filling some big shoes, stepping into the "big bad" role on Justified. But he is absolutely killing it. His creepiness, and how scary he is, keeps the viewers on their toes bc they never know what he will do. And so far, the brief showdowns with Raylan have been great but I can't wait to see what is to come. This show also has great supporting characters as well with the guy from King of Queens, (not Doug, his best friend) and the guy from Bloodline, (not Coach Taylor, the brother). Very intense episode, I thought Clement Mansell's character really shined here. I am hooked already and can't wait for the rest of the season!
