Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021)
Ghostpoop
So if you want to watch this movie, watch the trailer and the last 10 minutes. It is a slow slog of nothing happening at all until the last fight. Art direction was good, but the movies premise and plot make you think it's a steam/cyberpunk thing. There are 2 factions and ghosts in between them. The ghosts do nothing and the factions don't have any animosity towards each other.
The movie is pointless throughout. Please don't bother.
Iron Fist (2017)
Can't understand the so so reviews at all
Well not going to spoil the show in the slightest or give a synopsis, but as a marvel Netflix show this more than holds its own. For what it's worth I really liked Jessica Jones, DD and Luke Cage, but the problems with those shows were the catch and release continuum of Jessica Jones, DD is just action scenes that need a better plot device to hold them together and Luke Cage seems like 2 separate 6 episode seasons put together. Iron Fist had good characters, not too much pow pow and enough character development to carry it through. Definitely worth a watch. Unlike what I did, which was to believe that it was mediocre and boring (acording to the reviews). Make up your own mind, I liked it and Luke Cage is still the worst one of the Netflix bunch.
The Babadook (2014)
Just bad.
This movie has an atmosphere of "something wicked this way comes" but falls short in soooooo many ways. It has a parent that doesn't believe her son when it comes to the boogieman. And that is it. The entire movie is a loop of who is right and who is having a nervous breakdown. In the end it seems arbitrary who is having a nervous breakdown and what is real as the end payout is not worth it. After reading the shill reviews and bumps of this title it is a shame that it was this bad. Always the shills are wrong (surprise)and this movie is crap. Should you avoid it? The answer is a pretty resounding Yes. This movie is BORING as hell and just all filler.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
So you like the turtles? A blockbuster without blocks to bust.
This movie will not satisfy your turtle needs. It clumps up a bunch of characters from the old turtles lore and gives it back as a crap smoothie. And that's why the movie made me angry.
The action sequences (when they happen) are mostly wobblycamera nonsensical. The turtles' different characteristics are not really explored until the end of the movie, but then it's too late to make an impact on the plot.
The acting is.. well wooden or cgi, and the plot is oversimplified. And that's saying a lot for a 90's pop phenomena that basically had no sense to begin with. But they manage to merge 10 characters into about five to save screen time.
If you want to see a better turtles movie, watch the 90's ones. If you want to see a good ninja movie, watch anything else.
Night of the Demons (2009)
You know what, I enjoyed it...more than I should have.
I really liked this movie. It's a remake of a "classic" movie from '88. I saw this one first and everything for me worked. Cheesy horror premise; check. Half naked babes; check. Demons a plenty; check check. And now that I have watched the original I think this version is far superior in both acting and script. Not gonna spoil anything major but the premise is the same, teenagers in a haunted house getting possessed by sneaky demons is the main thing . This movie is far superior both in dialog and the script departments. The 2009 version has some twists and spooky moments, the old one just had soap opera wannabe dialog and the whole story followed in that line. I think that the two versions are really different all and all and you should check both of them out. I'm also a sucker for Shannon Elizabeth so it's an 8 from me. I think I have seen the majority of both a and b horror stuff from 2009 and I really thought this was a good one and in no way is this worth a 4. It really improves on the original in every way.
Safe House (2012)
It was good but...
The movie was good in a general sense, but... I'm a casual moviegoer and I like a variety of stuff, but lately the thing that has been getting on my nerves is the "SHAKYCAM" (tm). This movie is one of those flicks where you sit down and start enjoying immediately, because the plot is simple, the characters have simple motivations and it starts off at a nice brisk pace.. then it happens... THE SHAKY CAM! You can't see what the hell is going on in 90% of the action scenes because of the shaky zoom cam. Every single time somebody is shot you think "is that a main character or an extra", rest assured it's an extra. And as a result the plot falls short and becomes a joke in the end. Bad directing killed a movie once again, but Reynolds finally shines as an actor (as I really thought his performance finally added something to a movie instead of deducting from it). 6/10 movie, 8/10 actors.
11-11-11 (2011)
Blehhhh...
Well what to say, this movie was a)dark (as shot in the), b)predictable and c)boring. The movie starts off with the whole 11/11/11 shebang and as soon as it's being explained somehow I started to roll my eyes. The movie was boring until the end and even in the "magical" 11-11-11 mark it just stumbled horrifically. The main protagonist is just unlikeable as well as the rest of his family. And as soon as the other characters start popping up you pretty much guess their motives and reasons for being in the movie. The plot in itself is idiotic and just thrown in the wind. The plot mixes religion with premonitions and literal bible junk and just doesn't come together in any point to deliver any sort of "ah-hah" feeling or a sense even wanting to know what the whole thing is about. All the spooky stuff happens in complete darkness so you see a glimmer of something shiny in the darkness, but the music direction is a bit off so you'll hear the loud "TADAA" music before anything interesting happens. And sometimes it took the music ques to inform me that something was actually happening seeing that all you see in the night scenes is black. All and all I'd say that the movie had no redeeming qualities and just skated by on the entire numbers theme. Bad acting, bad script, bad direction and no suspense all together in one unhappy bundle. But seeing as I've seen worse I'll give a 3 for all of the 11's. Shame on you Bousman, I really expected more.
Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (2005)
What have you done with Carlito?
Well to the fans of the original movie this offers pretty much nothing. To be quite honest, this movie would have been much better without the tag of Carlito's Way but it's a money making scheme and there's nothing wrong with that.
The movie is just lighthearted mob-like fun and I thought it was nice to see Mario van Peebles in a different role for a change (not as a b-movie hero that kicks butt). The movie just tells about Carlito and his drug dealings and networking around the time he was young. Basically I just liked the movie and there's even a small twist in the end which I won't spoil. But if you're looking for a serious movie about the mob or a serious prequel to Carlito's Way, then don't pick this title up. As I said, this basically has nothing to do with the original masterpiece but as a mob "fan" I'd give this a 6/10. Lighthearted but kind of fun.
