Cinematic sewage.

Mental onanism for radical chic that would be always countercurrent without a reason.

Status of cult is earned only because of banning. Very good images by Luca Bigazzi , a really wonderful black & white ; but this is not enough saving the the movie from the garbage can.

The worst movie of all time. There aren't enough words describing the mediocrity of this movie.

Watching this movie It's incitement to suicide.

100% Kinsky
5 June 2021
This movie is as crazy as its author is; you can love it or hate it , nothing else , no half measures. Kinsky is actor , director ,writer , editor ; this movie is compleately his , in good and bad way. Personally I loved it ; a delrium.

On violin , the greatest Paganini's performer : Salvatore Accardo.

Herzog is not the same
5 June 2021
After Fitzcarraldo , Herzog had never been the same as he was in '70s ; power of his narration is waek ; the director ligers in too many antropological scenes ; sometimes the pace is too slow. In 80s and , even more , afterwards , Herzog expresses himself better in documentary than in movies. Kinsky is really great , unique as he was. Watching this movie I had felt a little bit of nostalgia for the real Herzog ; one of favourite director.

A movie as strange as its author
19 May 2021
There no middle way : you hate Adriano or you love him. This movie is strange , surely , prophethic , maybe ; who knows . I think that Adriamo himself doesn't know what he had done.

Great movie but too many loose ends
15 May 2021
I've watched two version of this movie : three hour.40minutes and extended . The second one adds no significant things , only some interlocutory scenes. Leone wasn't aware of synthesis existence; it's a great movie , great direction , great acting but there are too many loose end that tangle the plot.

Interesting only for cinemascope use
15 May 2021
This movie is highly overrated ; the only real interesting is the great use of Cinemascope by Negulesco. A suggestion : fast forwar for the orchestra at the beginning , that scene is useless.

A movie that make you think
7 May 2021
This is a really great movie; a story of a failed revolt that is the symbol of all failed revolts , for example the '68 movement , very close ,chronologically , to the movie. A story of violence and overwhelming ; the strong that bullies the weak; the wonderful location of Lanzarote ; misteries : how was it started ? How was it finished? Because there isn't a real ending ( like in many Herzog's movies). All this staged with dwarfs ; poeple who moves to pity used for a devastating message.

Ridicolous movie
7 May 2021
Cimino miss compleately the target. This movie is awful ; the historical reconstruction is absolutely ridicolous ; a couple of examples : the grave with English language writing ( in Sicily ????) , a car with a plate of Pavia ( that is a city in northern Italy ,more or less 1000 kilometres far from Sicily) , a one-way point of view fo Giuliano's history that is very more complicated. A mess !!! Lambert is good only for Highlander ; Sukowa ( a distressing American whose caracther is compleately useless) is clearly embarassed . Only Turturro gives a good performance. A compleately waste of time and money.

It worth watching only for photography
7 May 2021
Only the extraordinary cinematography of Wilmos Zsigmond... nothing else. Plot and subplots ( too many) are absurd ; Kristofferson is a piece of wood ; the counter rethoric is ridicolous , like are ridicolous dialogues. The ending is a mess. But what a riot of colour , what an extraordinary use of natural light ( a trademark of Zsigmond) , incredible images , clouds in a blu sky , the wind that make cheer a torn tend ; wonderful images ; nothing more than this.

Boredom and beauty
5 May 2021
This movie is not a movie is merely filmed theatre , almost seven hours of ultra static shots , catatonic faces , glances lost in nothing ,endless monologues declaimed with humdrum voices and boredom , boredom , boredom. I think that the editor got asleep during his work. Surely there are fascinating colors , a remarkable plastic taste for shots ; you can feel the hand of Oliveira in every single moment of this movie , exactly as you can feel the boredom. In Venice Film Festival , back in 1985 , it was defined a "boring masterpiece" ; surely boring but I don't think that it is a masterpiece. Very , very demanding but not rewarding , a sadomasochistic experience.

A strange movie
5 May 2021
This movie is very strange ; it is suspended between boredom and.sublime. Very , very , very long shots incredibly accurate; the camera is not fixed , such , for example , in boring DeOliveira's movies , camera movements and zoom give to the movie a mesmerizing rythm ; black and white photography is reamrkable ; but , undoubtedly , doredom is just around the corner. Surely it is not a movie for everyone.
