The Cannibal in the Jungle (2015)
Bar none, the best movie I have ever seen on TV.
This movie deserves to be a cult classic on a slightly higher level than 'The Blair Witch Project'. It has a similar reality format, and a greater degree of believability. It really and truly makes you believe in what is happening. I think the movie was criticized by fans of Animal Planet because it is supposed to be a reality educational channel. However, if you are a fan of horror it is an excellent watch, and will not disappoint. It is hard to explain why I like the movie without spoilers, but I think it is well worth viewing and will not be a waste of your time. The filming style adds to the believability and leaves you with a sense that you have actually caught a glimpse into an almost alternate reality, yet something that could conceivably happen--and maybe, just maybe they really exist.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Very disappointing and confusing
The first part of the movie was OK and has your average teens heading out on a trip and meeting your average creepy gas station guy. There isn't very much background on the teens, so it is difficult to connect with them on an emotional level. The movie gets interesting in the middle, but then toward the last third it plummets in believability and "realism" and becomes completely non-plausible. It has minimal imagination stirring elements, since the physical aspects of what is happening are dreadfully impossible. It seems that there is an orchestrated reality show going on in which the teens are entrapped and then slowly killed off, but how they got there, why, the reasons for their demise and the background of why this program exists are extremely blurry, confusing and hard to follow. The movie ends with a really sucky CG scene of a large hand with no back story destroying everything. All in all this is the second worst movie I have ever wasted time on.
