Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Lifeless and done
As I have enjoyed the first 2 of the franchise in the Indy series, I started to be a little disappointed in the third and then Disney took over and virtually destroyed the franchise. Normally Harrison Ford can carry a movie like this but sadly failed as he has reached an age that, like the Indy series has not aged well. Trying to make him look younger for some of the scenes was a horrible. Too dark to see the action in those scenes.
There were many times in the movie that I had to fight to stay awake during it. They basically could have cut probably about 65 minutes of this and still not entertained me. My wife did fall asleep but was jarred awake but the volume of the lack luster "action scenes".
Very disappointed in this bomb considering I had great hope. Please stop remaking these classics of the originals. Walt Disney himself said there is so many stories to tell that there is no reason to make sequels. He was right.
The Santa Clauses (2022)
Epic massive YIKES
Even though there is still a couple episodes to go after watching episode #3 this is sinking into the swamp of really bad movies. They must have paid Tim Allen a lot of money to be in this. But I am willing to give it all the episodes to see if it can redeem itself but it's not looking good.
In episode #3 the plot runs amuck and just seems to get more confusing. Who's idea was it to put Peyton Manning in a scene to be interviewed. Then Santa's daughter seems to be very bitter about leaving. The one part where the elves are dancing to Last Christmas and holding up letters the say "We love you Satan? Yes Satan!!! Till Santa corrects them. I am just really disappointed that Disney continues to destroy their brand and make horrible stuff like this.
12/14/22 update. After watching all episodes I am agreeing with my original statement. Very disappointed in Disney and the product they have been putting out. I think Walt would not approve of this.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir Presents the Joy of Christmas with Angela Lansbury (2002)
Healing concert
After watching this after the tragedy of 9/11 just a couple months prior, everything about this musical rendition for the Christmas season was the start of the healing process for the world. With the stunning performance of Ms. Lansbury and the usual beautiful performance by the Tabernacle choir made that season special.
Aladdin (2019)
Disney Plus owes me
I started my subscription with Disney Plus mainly for the vintage selection but thought I would try a newer movie from the choices. Bad move on my part. If this was the only selection, I would want my money back. I never expected it to be as good but was expecting more than what I got. Too much trying to tell a story that we already knew from the animated movie.
Too many things wrong with this that there is not enough space here. Too much modern touches like the break dancing, singing if you want to call all the auto tune that is inserted in the musical numbers. Will Smith was not that funny or even fun. Aladdin was too stuck on himself and Princess Jasmine was ....well lets just say... I'll leave it at that.
Genie drinking from a martini glass. Flat humor like a carpet. Oh the carpet was the only redeeming character. Flat and uncaring.
Please Disney stop making these live remakes. Your wasting money on stories that has been told better buy a cartoon.
Evening Shade (1990)
Evening Shade still lives
7 years since the last review. Sadly this has slipped into the unconscious of TV land but as long as it had some viewers, It will live one.
I found the entire series recently on Amazon. I ordered it and will be thrilled to fill a half hour or 1 episodes of my time on Mondays when I watched it back in the day. (I don't binge watch anything) It has a great cast and a great story line.
Forever a losing high school football coach that doesn't give up. The supporting cast makes this town and story line that much better. Edgy humor but nothing like today's sitcoms.
It is a breath of fresh air again in year 2020 from what seems not so long ago but yet long since visited.
The Grinch (2018)
All the Grinches
I have to say up front that I liked this movie. Not loved but really liked. I viewed the Grinch as more a comical character. Because he was so funny and happy in some scenes, Just meant he was hiding his true feelings of hatred and depression because of Christmas. (I refer to real life comics that have died from their own hand hiding behind the comedy.)
That being said, This was a good movie because of the strong female roles of this tale. Cindy Lou and her mom are strong points of the true feeling and meaning of Christmas. There are many sub plots in this movie but are all tied together through out.
I did like the three Grinch movies but for different reason and perspectives. This Grinch is just different from the others but comes together in the same ending for all.
It's all in your preference and taste.
Mr. Krueger's Christmas (1980)
Merry Christmas to the Aged and Lonely
This short movie reminds us that Christmas is for all to enjoy from the smallest babe to the lonely aged people. Jimmy Stewart, although not Mormon himself, recognized the importance of the message by the babe in a manger. He portrays what is all to familiar when we age and lose someone important. Being alone. But are we really alone? Not after you see the scene of Jimmy with the babe in the manger. This tearful exchange gives us hope when we feel alone and abandoned.
Excellent movie with the most important message of all. To love each other as Jesus has loved us.
You can no longer get this video for free but when you can find it and well worth the money and effort.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Longer than it should be
I was disappointed that there was no real memorable songs or anything familiar catchy tunes like the original even though Richard Sherman was given consulting credit. I was disappointed in the animation also. I felt it was a little too stick like figures. It even had a familiar feel from the animation for previous Disney films like Lady and the Tramp among others. The story line was fairly good but was written more for the Broadway stage than it was for filming especially the musical number with all the animated characters. They could have left out many of the lamplighters scenes. They were too forced and based too much on the original film story line with just a little to much familiarity. The lamplighters on the streets, the chimney sweeps on the roof of London. They could have left that scene out. The scene the kids woke up from the chase was too much like the kids being lost after they upset the bank from the first film. Too many scene similar to the first film.
I gave it 4 stars because of the story alone but it could have been more original than it was.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Yikes
Being a big fan of Disney, well most of Disney's cartoon movies and seeing that some of the real life movies were not bad, I had high hopes for this. Just watched it on streaming and couldn't make it through the last 2 hours but I did.
Where oh where did the people at Disney approve this rolling CGI, actors, acting and singing choice of just about everything, NIGHTMARE!!!
I watched it on streaming thinking I would purchase it and pair it with the original. I really want to get my money back from the streaming service. It was that bad.
Sorry modern Disney is fast slipping from the movie lexicon of memorable movies and into the dumpster.
Northern Exposure: Cicely (1992)
Very powerful episode
Sometimes, but not too often, does a TV show, cause such thought provoking and beauty as does this episode of Northern Exposure. As I watch it, I remember when it was first aired in 1992 and the profound effect it had on me then and now. My thoughts for this episode are of life changing feelings for how we all live our lives and from whence we come in the past.
This episode makes you want to go and make our own Cicely (so to speak) a better place for all the world. I can only think of what Ned said at the first of this episode, "One person can have a profound effect on another, well two people can work miracles. They can change a town. They can change the world." This particular episode was not meant to be funny or even sad as it were. In my opinion, it should create a point of which we can all go forth and try to change the world for the better for all, no matter the color of your skin, sexual preference, religion or even your past.
I agree with the past reviewer that this was a great show and episode. It deserved the accolades it garnished at the time and more.
Unlike the shows that TV produces now, Northern Exposure was, is and always will be a very good and powerful show and will continue to be classic for a millennium.
