Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Must Be Held Accountable (2020)
Ridiculous and impossible to take seriously
So, this former cop goes nuts because the guy who assaulted his underage daughter gets let off. Ok, I'd lose my mind too. But to take a detective, who was trying to help get the guy put away, hostage... to what end? Why not go after the guy himself? Or his lawyer? Or the judge who obviously was involved somehow? And then he keeps threatening to kill the detective? WHAT GOOD IS THIS GOING TO DO?! It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I couldn't take a single second of this episode seriously because I couldn't get over how STUPID this father was. All that's going to happen is this guy is gonna be arrested and leave his girls with no guardian, because their mom is in rehab. And rather than being able to dedicate time to getting the scumbag who assaults and sells young girls, the SVU is having to chase down their missing detective. Just absolutely idiotic and unrealistic, especially since this guy was supposed to be a former cop. He had no plan and nothing he did made a lick of sense. Terrible writing.
Book of Love (2022)
Cute idea, but it fell flat.
I watched this because I love Sam Claflin. The premise is cute, but the execution was not great. Poor writing and a lack of good relationship/character development, along with a sorry excuse for a relationship obstacle (I mean, seriously- the guy finds a picture of her with her and ex in bed, and understandably gets upset... then she acts like he should've just known it was not what it looked like? And when he immediately apologizes she's like "too late now... even though we were happy together ten minutes ago"??? Just a super weak obstacle.)
Anyway, had the potential to be a nice little rom com, but wound up being pretty boring. Only gave 3 stars because I love Sam.
Anne (2017)
Could've been good...
This show could've been decent if they had chosen literally anyone else to be Anne. She's an over-actor and her performance goes beyond dramatic, straight into obnoxious. Add in the terrible writing for Anne, and she comes off as a super unlikable character. Not to mention all the woke garbage that weaseled its way into the show.
Giving it three stars because the other actors are all pretty good, but the show overall is extremely disappointing.
Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
Did not do the story justice
I really only watched the movie because I wanted a chance to see Ben Platt as Evan. He was wonderful, despite being obviously too old, but the movie cut out some super important moments (and arguably one of the most important songs), that made Evan a sympathetic character. They also took out/changed several of the funny comments in a few of the songs (probably to be more "pc"), which were originally there to bring some needed comedic relief in an otherwise very serious show.
Definitely disappointed in the changes they made and feel this did not do the story justice.
Bridgerton: Capital R Rake (2022)
Huge disappointment!
Having read the books, I had certain things in my mind about how things should be/how people looked. That was definitely different in the show than in my head, but I could've totally overlooked that (except maybe the last name change, because I felt that was entirely unnecessary) had the characters been ANYTHING like they are in the book. Kate was witty and funny and subtly sarcastic in the book. In the show, she just comes off as mean and bitter. They also changed one of the BEST scenes in the book (the bee sting scene), and made what was funny but also showed a super vulnerable side of Anthony, into a very "meh", moment. There are a lot of issues with this season, and I came away super disappointed, because Kate was my favorite character of all the books, and she just fell completely flat for me here, and a lot of backstory/character development for both Kate and Anthony that made them lovable in the books was missing.
This Is Us: The Hill (2022)
Why is Kate so awful?
Kate has always been an unsympathetic character for me, but this episode just really blew it out of the water. She's so bitter at Toby for losing the weight when she can't muster up the willpower to do so, and she takes it out on him for everything. The poor guy was drowning in depression, and finally found a job he loves, got healthy, and is working hard to take care of her and the kids. He plans an awesome weekend for them, and all she can do is whine and moan, "Wah wah, I wish you were still fat and lazy with me." So ridiculous. Then she goes and calls her boss and unilaterally makes the decision to NOT move to SF, when she was JUST ticked at Toby for deciding not to take a lower paying job back home. Selfish selfish selfish. We obviously already know Kate and Toby aren't going to last, but I'm super frustrated that Kate is going to get married again, because she deserves to be alone and miserable. Toby is better off without her.
The Blacklist: Godwin Page (No. 141) (2021)
I just can't anymore.
I don't even know where to begin.
-Cooper yet again proves he has no business being an FBI agent, let alone the assistant director, because he's completely incompetent. "Liz wants to do the right thing!" Except... she literally has not given that impression a single time. She only went to turn herself in because she wanted to be kept safe.
-Liz has the audacity to say she "doesn't regret what she's done"... really? Not even all the innocent people you got killed? And then her reasoning. "Anyone who went through what I did would have done the same... or worse." EYE ROLL. Everything you went through was by your OWN doing. If you would've listened to Red and stopped meddling in things you didn't understand, none of this would have happened.
-NO ONE saw Liz grab that knife? Really? Two of Red's guys were standing right there!
-how did Liz know how to explain how to get that tracker out? And Red didn't think to check Liz for the tracker after Godwin escaped?
-Liz goes running back to a man who murdered her friends and her sister, and wants to murder her, because "Reddington won't tell me what I want to know! Waaaah!" Forget the fact that he's saved your stupid life countless times, and even let you live and CONTINUES TO TRY TO PROTECT YOU after you killed the woman he loved right in front of his eyes.
-Red seriously just let Elizabeth call someone privately? Why do the writers insist on making Red into an idiot whenever she's around? Oh right, because that's literally the only way to make her look even the slightest bit intelligent.
I'm so sick of this storyline. I'm sick of Keen's terrible, self-righteous, moronic, and completely unbelievable character; the FBI's unrelenting stupidity; and the lack of any real answers still. But I gave two stars because the last few minutes was at least intriguing, and we do know for sure Red is N13 now.
Younger: Make No Mustique (2021)
BOOOOOOOOO
Seriously?! WHY Charles?! Josh was sweet and genuinely loved Liza more than himself. Charles is a selfish, arrogant snob who only ever does what's best for himself regardless of who it affects. He has screwed over Kelsey and Liza multiple times, never trusts them, and is trying to steal inkubator from them, when Kelsey literally sunk everything she had into it and he wouldn't even consider it until a famous author showed up. UGH I hate him, and I hate that he's the one the writers chose to put Liza with. Booooooo.
The Blacklist: Ivan Stepanov (No. 5) (2021)
Finally!
This episode was a breath of fresh air. Still no answers yet, but that was expected. What I appreciate is that:
1) Aram finally showed some common sense by questioning why it even matters who Red really is when he's helped the country so much.
2) Red finally called out the task force for working against him and with Elizabeth when they have no idea what's actually going on.
3) Finally (kind of) showing how little Elizabeth knows and how gullible she is. And how terrible she is at being a criminal, because she doesn't know what she's doing.
Hoping more episodes are like this one. Then I might actually look forward to watching again, instead of suffering through it.
The Blacklist: The Cyranoid (No. 35) (2021)
Please end this.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT KEEN. This storyline is obnoxious and ridiculous. Elizabeth is and always has been an absolute moron. You can't just suddenly make her into a mastermind who is able to easily and consistently outsmart seasoned criminals, especially one like Reddington.
And don't even get me STARTED on the terrible decision making and utter stupidity of the FBI "agents". They still haven't even changed the security codes? Seriously?!
Please end this storyline. Show Keen to be the idiot she is, let Reddington easily outsmart her like he should, and finally kill her. Please.
The Blacklist: The Fribourg Confidence (No. 140) (2021)
Better, but...
This episode was SO much better than the last few, because there was NO ELIZABETH. However, they're still painting her as some kind of criminal mastermind, which is both annoying and completely unbelievable. She was a horrible FBI agent who couldn't even do her job when the information and power of the government was behind her... and they want us to buy that she's able to outsmart and outplay Reddington? Sure, ok.
The Blacklist: Elizabeth Keen (No. 1) (2021)
Worst one yet.
Elizabeth has proven time and again that she is NOT intelligent enough to outsmart Red... to the point where the writers have to make Red himself into an absolute moron in order to make Liz look like she has a single living brain cell in her skull. No way on EARTH that Ray would actually have believed that Marvin betrayed him that easily. He didn't even question it, just assumed it was true, and started torturing him. SO out of character!
And the fact that Ressler and Aram both just kept helping Liz and letting her go- SO frustrating. I'm beginning to seriously hate every character in this show almost as much as I've hated Liz for the past like five seasons.
Please kill Liz. Please make something terrible happen to Ressler, because he deserves it for being such an idiot. (He hates Red so much, but if it weren't for him, Ressler would be in prison for murder. Ungrateful jerk.)
Please just go back to writing Red as the absolute genius mastermind he is, start catching criminals again, and stop this idiocy. I miss when this show wasn't infuriating to watch.
The Blacklist: 16 Ounces (2021)
Liz is the absolute worst. Ever.
Ok, so Liz has always been an absolute idiot, a terrible detective, and overall a giant waste of space.
Reddington has saved her life countless times because she got into trouble being an utter moron, yet she chose Katarina over him-why? Because Reddington wouldn't share all of his secrets? She's a stupid, whiny little brat, and I've never hated a television character so much.
Then she tries to act as if she's got some kind of moral high ground, despite kidnapping her own grandfather, which resulted in his death (Not to mention the other crimes she's committed that Raymond helped her get out of). But she gets mad at Reddington for killing katarina, and tells Harold "I know what she's done [i.e. Russian spy, killed numerous Americans, tried to kill Reddington, etc.]- but that doesn't give him the right to execute her." THEN SHE TRIES TO MURDER RAYMOND BECAUSE OF IT! Hypocrite, much????
Seriously, she's the absolute worst protagonist in the history of television, and she needs KILLED OFF. Not just written off. She needs a satisfying, well-deserved, death.
The Resident: A Wedding, A Funeral (2021)
Covid covid covid...
We GET it. Covid exists. We don't need every single show to be about it. We've already been living it. Viewers watch shows to escape what's happening, and being punched in the face with it every time we turn around is SO frustrating, and absolutely exhausting.
La La Land (2016)
Incredibly disappointing.
People saying this is "the best movie they've ever seen" must have NEVER seen any other musical, ever. Or any other movie, for that matter. I love Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, but their singing and dancing is mediocre-not what you want to see from your leading man and lady in a supposed musical. The storyline is slow and boring. I didn't feel invested at all, even at more than halfway through the movie. Gosling's character is a snob, who tries to force everyone else to have the exact same opinion about jazz as he does, and overall he's just a huge jerk. I didn't sense any chemistry between these two characters, which I believe is directly the fault of the storyline, because I've seen the actors together in other movies and their chemistry was great.
Absolutely over-hyped and overrated. If you're a musical lover, pass on this one. Unless you want to be severely disappointed.
Weakest Link: Whose Cereal Is All Luck and No Charm? (2020)
Strongest link should have immunity...
The last two guys voted off the girl who had been the strongest link basically the entire game. I get that it's "strategy" to get rid of the best player, but it's so frustrating to see someone be the actual best at the game and go home empty handed. I think the strongest link in each round should have immunity.
Weakest Link: Who Is Six Eggs Short of a Half Dozen? (2020)
Worst. Episode. Ever.
The person who won was THE WEAKEST LINK LITERALLY THE ENTIRE GAME! He absolutely did not deserve to win. And only ONE question was answered correctly in the final round. Absolute worst contestants ever.
A Christmas Cruise (2017)
So. Bad.
This is possibly the worst movie I've ever suffered through. There was absolutely no chemistry between the two main characters, and the male lead was completely void of any charm or desirable characteristics. The female lead was, for lack of a better word, "blah." Their relationship was basically nothing but being rude and sarcastic to each other, and their banter was just awkward and forced.
I generally appreciate the cheesiness of Christmas/Hallmark type movies, but man. This went way past cheesy, into downright cringeworthy.
Enola Holmes (2020)
I wanted to love it
I like Millie Bobby brown, and I LOVE Sam Claflin, so I was really excited about this movie. But I was disappointingly underwhelmed. The acting is fine, but the storyline wasn't great. The setup to her mom disappearing and Enola going to find her seemed promising, but then it all kind of fell flat for me.
Overall I think this is a fine kids' movie, or a "play in the background while you chat with friends" movie.
Virgin River (2019)
Hart of Dixie 2.0
So this show is very similar to the basic storyline of Hart of Dixie (in which Tim Matheson plays literally the exact same character-grumpy hometown doctor who's mean to the new doctor/nurse). But I like Alexandra Breckinridge and I find her much less grating than the lead actress in Hart of Dixie. Overall this is a good show so far and I look forward to seeing more!
Sweet Home Carolina (2017)
Ruined by a bad lead actress
While movies like this tend to always have cheesy scripting and predictable outcomes, I generally still enjoy watching them for the feel-good benefits. However, this movie was ruined because Heather McComb was truly terrible. Who laughs that much during normal conversations? Sad moment-LAUGHTER. Confusion/hard decision-LAUGHTER. Love interest shows up unexpectedly-LAUGHTER. Guy proposes- you guessed it, OBNOXIOUS LAUGHTER.
Not to mention, the script was even more cheesy and awful (plus, super choppy) than most. Just baaaaad.
Outmatched (2020)
These kids are the WORST
I understand that they're supposed to be "geniuses"... but they're also the most spoiled, condescending, hateful little twerps I've ever seen. If my children acted like that, they'd be off to military school in a frickin' heartbeat. It's a shame this show sucks so bad, because I LOVE Maggie Lawson. :(
