Hajime no Ippo (2000)
Very good, but also very biased
The entire anime is good, regardless of season, but it has one major flaw- bias; the writer/creator of this is (obviously) bitter over Japan's loss against the USA in WW2 times and the series reflects that near perfectly. In reality, an American boxer will easily beat any Japanese boxer without question as opposed to what's displayed in the anime.
Halloween (2018)
Boring 💤
Talk about boring; writing this in the theater at the moment and all this film can produce is cheap, worthless humor, dumb teens and cheap jumpscares. Don't waste your time.
Hereditary (2018)
Cheesy and a failure
This movie is about a family that comes to know that their ancestors worshipped an old Pagan God; there's nothing wrong with this plot. What is wrong is that it literally takes agessss to get there. The movie is 2 hours long and only at the end do you get some form of pleasure in watching. For the rest, it's just drivel all the way. Nothing even remotely scary. Lastly, using a spirit like Paimon for the plot is cheap in my opinion. They couldn't come up with anything original, so they just looked online for demons or similar, and there you go.
BTW Paimon isn't even infernal etc. From an actual occultist.
Pacific Rim Uprising (2018)
Liberalism strikes again
Movie's so bad; reminds me of Spiderman homecoming, completely lackluster with a forced ethnically diverse cast. No real variety or action, looks like a kids movie with bad acting and worthless script.
Doomsday (2008)
Has potential, but takes too long
This movie is about a virus pandemic that breaks loose in Scotland, and as a result is quarantined by the UK govt; years pass, and the virus resurfaces in London. That's when a girl that narrowly escaped the quarantine (that is now a counter terrorist agent), which is the main protagonist, is sent in to retrieve a cure that the UK govt. thinks there is due to survivors showing up on satellite imagery.
The movie has potential on paper and story wise, but the plot drags on way too long (2hrs) & it's like a fusion between Mad Max, Resident Evil + King Arthur, in the sense that Scotland is now ruled by 2 entities: a Mad Max type society that's cannibalistic and a Medieval style society at the other end. No zombies in this one, in case you were wondering.
Final verdict: good, but don't expect anything great. Definitely.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Excellent all the way
This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in the past decade; the storyline is original and fresh, and at the same time you can tell that the budget for this movie was not big at all. No drawbacks at all to this one. Short version of the story: A coroner and his son who work together autopsy a body of unknown identity, and turns out that it's a haunted body of a girl that was tortured and killed during the Salem witch trials.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Confusing
If this movie was supposed to be a horror movie, then you can safely consider it comedy horror; and a BAD one at that.
The Dark Tower (2017)
OMG
Talk about being bad; this movie is a stool sample. I had no idea what the hell was going on and it's an outright offense to moviemaking.
The Ritual (2017)
Great
This movie made me smile; if you're someone like me that's been waiting for good horror in the 2000's, this is it- good storyline, good plot, good good everything. 8 out of 10. Well done.
Flatliners (2017)
Bad
This movie is bad, somewhat cheesy and not nearly as good as I thought it would be. It has no "feel" to it, and things are more or less boring. I was like "what the hell is this supposed to be, thriller or something?". It can't be classified as anything, and has no climaxes. I deleted it from my laptop halfway.
Jeepers Creepers 3 (2017)
Yikes
This has to be the worst Jeepers Creepers movie ever, and in my honest opinion the original was the best- the sequel wasn't better but this one...wow....this one just makes you go like wtf did I just watch. Make very little sense to me. The story line is completely mashed up and is unoverviewable.
The Devil's Gift (1984)
Good
I remember seeing this as a kid; I was born in 1985, so when I saw this I was like "cool" and it still is for the time it was created in. The concept was quite rare back then, a spirit possessing a doll. Back then horror was done right, with the focus on scaring the audience via emotion instead of over the top CGI. This is a gem, similar to the entity & wish master.
Antichrist (2009)
Just stunning
This is one of the best movies of the decade in terms of depth & overall shock value; it might take the average person a few repeated times watching it to fully understand it (I know I had to), but it steals your heart regardless. This is a horror/ thriller by category & it never disappoints and lets up. Both main actors give a tremendous performance. This movie will have a deep impact on you, regardless of who you are. I'm surprised to see only a 6.6/10 rating at the moment I'm writing this review.
The Darkness (2016)
Good, not great.
This movie is a good movie, but not great; it is by no means unique or anything in that aspect, but it is worth the watch. I watched it with my good friend & he pointed out that it is good. I personally am not frightened by pretty much anything, so this didn't do that for me, but at the same time I recognize & acknowledge that the story line is good, and the acting and just plain movie overall are all good. Don't expect it to win an award, but it's worth your time if you're into horror; Even more if you're not.
Life (2017)
Good, not great
I liked this movie; it is a typical sci-fi horror about a NASA team and what they discover in deep space. I found the ending to be rather interesting and it seems to me that this movie, whether intentionally or not, is a prequel to the movie Cloverfield. Overall a good movie, and worth the watch. No bombshell of a movie, but not every movie needs to be.
Lo (2009)
On the fence
I remember watching this movie years ago, and I will come right out and summarize what one can expect...
Pro: The story-line is surprisingly good. Con: Nearly everything else is bad, acting, scenery(of lack of), effects, costumes etc.
I also take it the demon Lo was made up since there is no source to be found on an entity that goes by that name. Watching this is when you do not not expect anything in the slightest and just have some time to kill; when you set yourself up for a huge disappointment is when you will be somewhat amused/ in awe.
This movie by the way does come off somewhat amateurish and I wonder of they even had a budget to begin or start with.
