Flyboys (2006)
Better than expected
Well, this movie was better than I expected, and I cannot say that for many movies.... I may say i was even impressed at some points, which is even less likely when watching a movie. First, let me say I do not admire war movies, or plane movies. I didn't even get to finish the Aviator... I tough this was just an ordinary movie, i started to watch it so the time can pass away. But just few minutes after it started i started to realize it's gonna worth it... May be one of the reasons was that they managed to input realistic characters, with their problems, lives, loves, losses, and you don't think for a second that they may be fake. Not because of the line "Inspired by a true story" at the beginning, but cause the personalities "fit" very well. There are a couple of scenes that can really make you start asking questions to yourself, about the life itself, a couple of moments that can brake your heart, or at least understand the "heroes" (why are they doing this?), which is not too easy to achieve in these days. So, why did I liked the movie, despite the fact i don't like WW movies, nor plane movies? I think it was because for me this one was none of the above, it is just a story about few man and few things, about life itself even. So what when it contains WW story, what when it contains plans - that ain't important, if you ask me. It is the story which matters at the end. And, to those who blame the movie for not being realistic - come on, try not to have your head always into the sky! This is not a historical book, nor a documentary movie!!! OK, may be couple of plains are not realistic, may be couple of fight scenes were not 100% realistic....and so what? May be the true story is a little re-made into movie style, but so what? If you wanna know the real story, read a book, if you wanna see the real planes, go to the museum, if you wanna see the real flights/bombing, watch some documentary on WW I! After all, the letters "Inspired by a true story" means exactly this - inspired! Not "We will tell you the 100% truth about it"..... And, why do you make such a big fuzz about this? Would the movie be any different if there wasn't this "true events thing" at the beginning? If you don't like it or think it doesn't belong there, just ignore it, and enjoy the rest of the movie, thinking it is not a real story. What difference does it make?
The Dark Hours (2005)
Not a disappointment as I expected
I started to watch the movie with the thought to go to sleep in the middle of it. This was about to happened because the first part of the movie is not so "catching", but I don't regret staying awake to watch it.
But, including this, at the end I can say that the first half was better than the second. Once you understand what is happening, you may as well not watch the movie to the end.
The interesting here is more the psychological part, which is mostly at the beginning. Once when you start to think what is really happening, it is not so hard to get 2+2. I can say, after all bad movies, supposed to be horror this year, this was not a disappointment, but however, the movie could've been done much much better. This movie goes far away from the caches, created in this year, but i still think the script was written too fast, instead of making the movie go further and may be even a bit more complicated. It is annoying watching the rest of the movie knowing what is gonna happened, and at the end realizing you were all right, but despite all the bad things I wrote, the movie succeeded keeping me awake and I think that the movie deserves to be watched.
