Infinity Pool (2023)
Twisting
Although this movie starts slow, it picks up and takes you on an insane ride. Typically, when I research new movies coming out, I watch trailers, read articles and explore as much as I can. With this movie, i couldn't find much from the trailers or any articles. But that's how you should go into this movie. What a pleasantly disturbing surprise. There are points in the film that I asked myself if the scene was a dream or reality. And then, it twists again to make me ask more questions about the events occurring. Amazing film.
If you enjoy twists and turns, you must watch this movie. You will not be disappointed.
M3GAN (2022)
Garbage
The ratings of this movie are quite a joke. I love horror movies, I love horror comedy movies. This movie is just ridiculous. The plot is lacking and predictable. There's no jump scares. The story is drab. The only positive thing about this film is how they made the doll look lifelike and yet still a doll. The part that triggered me the worst was the stupid dance move the doll does before attacking one of the people. There is no reason for this dance down the hallway and the guy just stood there afraid...plenty of time to try and do something. But no. She does a stupid TikTok dance, then a cartwheel, and then attacks the guy. Wtf....just kill the dude.
And yes, I watched the entire movie in hopes it would redeem itself, but it didn't. It ended and I couldn't be more irritated. If you want to waste your time, or to have a laugh at how stupid a movie about a killer doll can be (minus the Chucky's) then go for it. But if you want a horror comedy, don't watch this.
Over the Garden Wall (2014)
Simply Perfect
The only issue I have with this series is that it's only 1 season.
It's amazing. I laughed, I cried, I got scared. It's by far one of the best shows I've watched in awhile.
Absolutely would recommend to everyone.
Catch-22 (2019)
Really unexpected!
First of all, I went into this series knowing it was a comedy and drama. I expected it to be of goofball comedy but was mistaken. There are many funny parts that you chuckle at but also a few moments that actually brought a tear to my eye. I was entertained the entire time. Each end of an episode made me crave the next one that followed. This is a great binge watching series that will take less than 6 hours to get through.
The House That Jack Built (2018)
Speechless
A very interesting and amazing twist to the usual serial killer films. Outstanding is an understatement. The visuals, the acting, and everything is amazing. Very disturbing and interesting ending.
Lizzie (2018)
Disappointed
If you want a movie that is nearly 2 hours of boredom, lesbian scenes, and kind of some action that doesn't actually show anything, and a mystery that isn't much of a mystery, then this movie is for you.
The movie moves so slowly that if you fell asleep for half of the movie, you would not be behind.
The only positive part of this movie is Kristen Stewarts accent. It's semi believable. The actors played their parts well but apart from that, it was a terrible rendition of 1892 murders.
Assassination Nation (2018)
Not worth the time
This has to be one of the most annoying and biased movies I have ever seen. The movie drags for more than half of the movie. The only exciting interesting parts are the first 3 minutes and the last 10 minutes. This movie just irritates me from the start. It tries to be edgy and progressive but it just turns into a boring millennial irritation. I did enjoy the ending when the title actually made sense. With it being called 'Assassination Nation' you would think there would be more action but no, its just a group of girls (and a boy that is 'transgender') that use their phones and the internet too much and think they can get away with being what they think is cool.
DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE IF YOU VALUE YOUR INTELLIGENCE.
Dark Tourist (2018)
Fantastic
I was completely hooked to this. Really amazing job. This show gives you a chance to experience real dark tourism that is too scary without risking yourself. Really hopeful for more seasons!
Papillon (2017)
One of the greatest remakes ever made
There seem to be some hate towards this remake. I loved the original Papillon which has fantastic actors and story. But I love this remake even more than the original. The story is easier to follow so you don't get lost, the way the entire film was made puts you right there with Papillon. You feel what he feels. Absolutely amazing.
Phantasm (1979)
Boring
This is one of the worst 'horror' films I have every seen. The acting is terrible and cheesy, the jump scares are predictable and not frightening at all, and the story is boring and predictable. I do not have any idea why people praise this movie so much. It really isn't good. The only positive thing about this movie are that the special effects are ok for 1979.
Mandy (2018)
Odd Master Piece.
This strange and twisted 80's styled movie was absolutely amazing. It is very slow which builds up the tension perfectly. But some would say it's too slow to even watch. Twisted, gory, strange, weird, scary, horror. Simply put, one of the most strangest, horror movie ever made. I loved it.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Great beginnings
I will only be reviewing the first season of this series. The positives - the acting was great, I was hooked from the beginning. There was so much mystery and it was incredibly intriguing from the start. The different twists and turns and intensity of it all. There were parts I teared up in, there were parts that I laughed. Really great beginnings (hence my title of this review.) You can really become hooked in this show and like myself, watch the entire season in one day.
The negatives - If you read many of the other reviews, they have something in common, 'Drama Queen.' I can semi agree with this statement. There are parts that it does seem this way, but I would say that 'drama queen' would be for multiple characters in this show. But not just 'drama queen,' but terrible things that happened to multiple characters. One huge negative part that I found was the pointing fingers. Saying that nobody tried to help, but in reality, the one that needed help, never actually said a word about needing help. Expecting everyone to read this persons mind. Secrets do not help anyone. Whether it be the main character, or others. The entire time, help is there but is not used. I feel as though this show is telling us how people are starting to expect others to just read minds.
Darling (2015)
Artistically and absolutely terrifying
Wow. I had low expectations about this movie because of the star rating. I was sorely mistaken. Definitely 8/10 movie. This is an amazing movie. Very terrifying and beautifully done. Many jump scares that are not your normal jump scares. The story of a mid twenties woman who is house sitting. The house is supposedly haunted. But this movie takes a different turn altogether. Without spoiling anything, everything is not as expected.
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
Cloverfield
The first Cloverfield was hard for me to get into because of the shakiness of the camera. The next Cloverfield had me hooked. This one was done great. It had the horror, suspense, and even some comedy. Without giving out any spoilers, I will say this, it helps combine the Cloververse in an unexpected way. The acting was great. The special effects were very realistic. Mostly being filmed in space, it had many different sequences that worked very well together. I loved this film and I loved the way it ended. The only reason I didn't give it a ten was the beginning seemed to jump right into the middle of a story and I felt lost for a long time. But it does explain the story better throughout the film.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Less exciting than expected
While this movie is very well made and acted. It felt like it dragged in many parts. But it was an amazing movie non-the-less. You feel what the main character feels. She does an amazing job acting. There wasnt a single person that wasnt convincing. The twist and turns are very well done. The ending leaves you hanging though. I would like to see a sequel, but with this type of artistic movie, a sequel will ruin everything.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Worth every second
This movie should have a hire rating than what it is. The acting is phenomenal, the twists have you fooled. The photography is stunning, and sound track moving. I am tired of people giving older versions of movies higher scores. There are some older movies that may deserve a higher score than a remake but this one is soundly better. This is a must watch.
This movie gives you laughs, makes you angry, and makes you feel the sorrow. Simply put, it is incredible.
Suburbicon (2017)
Do not get your hopes up
I was very intrigued with this movie from the first trailer release. It looked like a great Coen brothers movie. But it was quite below my expectations. The movie was still well made. Matt Damon plays his role very well. There just isn't much depth to the movie like their other ones. The twists are predictable and don't make you think like the other Coen brothers movies. Usually side stories have a bit more depth as well but in this one it is only a small portion. I would say this movie is a one watch and over.
The Loved Ones (2009)
Great horror
There are many torture movies out there. Some are just brutal, some actually have a story, and some are just pointless torture flicks. This one has somewhat of a story. But unlike most torture films this one not only has a story about the main character but also somewhat of a comical side story about a friend of the main character which has only slight connections to the main character but nothing to do with the main story line.
This movie is very entertaining though. I had many parts that I found funny, and many parts that made me cringe.
Pontypool (2008)
Interesting Spin on Zombie Movie
Very simple but superbly made movie. There are a lot of 'zombie' movies out there and they have a wide range. Pontypool takes it outside that range. This movie has very good twists. Not very much of a jump scare but more of a psychological scare. Without giving away any spoilers I cant say too much except that this is not your normal 'zombie movie'. The acting is done very well and cinematography is good. This is a must see.
