The Apocalypse (2007)
There are thousands of ways to waste your time, please don't let this be one of them
The Apocalypse is a film made by Christian film company Faith Films (no profit to be gained in this field). My dad selected this film along with a few others for our Father-Son Christmas Movie Marathon. Although my dad exceeds me in many fields (particularly in those involving science and mathematics), I pride myself in the ability to pick a good movie. This movie, my friend, would not be my top choice.
I like to review my movie using a criteria that I have set up, here it goes: STORY: A meteor the size of Texas is about to hit Earth. Sound familiar? (the answer would be Armageddon). SOUND: The background noise provides a fog over the dialog delivered by the less-than-talented cast. CAST: Like I said before, less-than-talented. DIRECTOR: Let me put it this way just to be fair, he's no Steven Spielberg. PRODUCTION VALUES: Low budget, at best. 4 types of scenery: house, car, church (no surprise), and a park. Special effects involve flaming tennis balls being shot at a bunch of campers in the beginning of the movie.
The only way my dad and I found this movie slightly tolerable was through the magic of the fast-forward button found on our DVD player remote. If you are a Christian person who desires a Christian movie, please look elsewhere. This movie has no Christian in it at all (except for a miserably 10 minute long church scene). I live in a Mormon neighborhood, and I doubt that they watch this movie on Sunday morning sermons (at least I think Mormonism is a part of Christianity, I'm not a Christian). Dearest reader, I am now at my knees begging you to avoid this movie at all costs...PLEASE!
Huang he jue lian (1999)
A great, heartfelt movie
I really don't get why this movie only got 5.3 and all you lousy comment posters have to really bash on this movie. This is actually the opposite, it's better than most of the crap Hollywood is throwing at us!
Acting: Decent actors, but Paul Kersey's death screams when his plane was about to crash really distracted me from the film. Jing Ling is much better looking than Ziyi Zhang in my opinion.
Directing: My dad is familiar with Chinese film and says that the director is well-known and renowned in China (aside from Yimou Zhao, of course).
Sound: So-so. It's not spectacular but not absolutely horrible at the same time. But, the music score is AWESOME (it melted my heart).
Picture Quality: Honestly, I thought that this film was made in the 70's (lol). Anyway, it added to the atmosphere in some way.
Overview: Great film for romance buffs and maybe will attract the war movie fanatics. The people who made this film really put effort in this film and it shows. It might not be a classic, but it really sinks into your heart. It digs deep into human emotions.
American Soldiers (2005)
Such An Underrated Film
I watched "American Soldiers" last night and all I can say is that it is ONE OF THE BEST war films I have ever watched. Where most of the war films are over-dramatized and uses the most overrated war-is-hell clichés, American Soldiers shows almost every aspect of a soldier's life from the excitement of your first confirm kill to losing your comrade/best friend to just joking and Moshe-pitting around with your army buddies.
There are some things that could have improved in this film, such as the immense body count and seemingly non-stop attacks from the insurgents. The terrorists seem to know every step of the Americans, and I think that is a little over-exaggerated. But, that seems to be the only thing I would change about the film that I can think of at this moment.
The acting is good, based on the fact that all of these actors have not had much acting experience (the most experienced actor acted in only 4 movies). Some people might find them as amateurs, but this, in my opinion, really brings out the realism of the characteristics of the American soldiers. War films should be bring out everyday people shoved onto the battlefield with an M-16 in hand rather than Charlie Sheen or Josh Hartnet. This is the problem of most war films these days, more focus on quality rather than realism. The directing is also rather remarkable.
There is a well balanced compilation of emotions. Happy lightheartedness is well blended with anguish and sorrow to craft a gripping story about a group of 10 soldiers who's only wish is just to get through the day and make it back to base. In conclusion, American Soldiers is THE MOST underrated film released in 2005. Solid storyline, decent acting and directing, good visual effects, well funded, a fluent and believable depiction of the current situation in Iraq, and a well-spent 1 hour and 35 minutes. A must see for all war film fanatics (such as myself).
The 6th Day (2000)
Great movie, one of THE most underrated
I have just seen this movie last night, and all I can say is that it is one of THE best Sci-Fi thrillers I have seen. It involves a futuristic plot where human cloning is illegal (but animal cloning is not) and a rich owner of a technology company who decides to reverse the law banning it by proving to the world that cloning is possible. The main character is a war veteran who takes the occupation of an average everyday helicopter pilot (Schwarzenegger) who one day finds out that he has been cloned. To get his life back, he had to find the people who did this and make them stop their madness. Great movie, the only problem is that there are some sudden changes to the plot which left me scratching my head. But overall, solid entertainment! I have stated that this movie is underrated, IT IS! I think that this movie should be on the top 250 (they should flip the current rating from 5.8 to 8.5), the minimum it should get is a high 7. Bottom line, WATCH THIS MOVIE!
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002)
THE best game I've ever played, seriously!
One fine summer day last year, I was cruising around the games section and came across the game. At that time, I heard lots of good things and bad things about the game (mostly good). So, I picked up the game with a few others (Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, Manhunt, Hit-man 2, Max Payne, etc.), not knowing what to expect. I played the games 1 by 1, beating them all. Soon, I came to GTA:VC and started playing. Within the first five minutes, I found myself ADDICTED to it! You start out playing as the crook Tommy Vircetti (Ray Liotta, NARC)in Miama, Fl in 1986. He has lost much $$$ to a bunch of masked men with heavy guns while he was making a deal with some other baddies. At the start, Mr. V struggles to earn the money back, but soon, he kills his former employer, Ricardo Diaz, and takes over the mansion; so then, he struggles to be a crime lord. What you can expect from GTAVC: 1. Non-linear game play 2. Hot music from the 80's 3. Fun characters 4. Countless drivable vehicles 5. Adult stuff Get this game NOW!
8 Mile (2002)
Great Movie
8 Mile is a superb film. I loved it even though I'm not much of an Eminem fan. This film talks about a want-to-be rap star nicknamed B-Rabbit who despite the family poverty problems and being looked down because he was a white rapper, he found the strength to rise to the top. With the help of his loving friends, he becomes a rap superstar. Besides Eminem, this film stars Britney Murphy who plays his girlfriend. A wonderful film! It won an Oscar in 2002 for Best Original Song and a few others awards and was nominated for many, even Best Picture. It is a heartwarming film that talks about human struggle. Do yourself a favor and watch this film.
Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)
Personally, the best out of the Rambo series!
Rambo: First Blood Part II, is, like the title says, the best out of the series! In this movie, we revisit the Vietnam veteran Rambo, who has been offered to be released from prison as long as he would gather intelligence on captured P.O.W's in a Vietnam camp. Later on, Rambo decides to take matters into his own hands and was betrayed by an American high official. Along with a beautiful Taiwan contact, Rambo fights the brutal Russians that sides with the Vietnamese and the Vietnamese themselves. This flick is packed with explosions and intense adrenaline-pumping action, you won't be disappointed! I strongly urge you to watch this film!
Rocky (1976)
A wonderful, emotional, inspirational film!
When I checked the rating for this movie, I was so very surprised and ticked off that this movie didn't get into the Top 250. THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN WITHIN THIS WHOLE SUMMER. This movie talks about an underdog club boxer named Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) who is in league with a gang. He falls in love with a woman named Adrian(Talia Shire) and they become boyfriend & girlfriend. Heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) challenges Rocky to a match to gain popularity. And so, "The Italian Stallion" takes the challenge and trains hard in order to beat him. THIS IS A WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC,SPECTACULAR, EXCELLENT flick. I would give it an 11/10, but IMDb wouldn't allow it! Rent/buy/download/etc. it! You won't be disappointed!
First Blood (1982)
A wonderful 80's action flick with a truthful, powerful message!
First Blood, starring Sylvester Stallone, is a fast-paced, grab-on-to-your-seat-because-this-is-going-to-be-a-bumpy-experience, rush-of-blood-to-the-head action title. It talks about a Nam vet (Vietnam veteran) named John Rambo, who is attacked by some bullshit cops (in my native language, you would call them mai sch tjao sch du ren - people who has no problems who looks for problems)all because he is some "freeloader". The powerful message at the end of the story nearly made me weep. War vets come home, get booed by people, are rejected by job employers, and end up living in the streets begging for spare change. I mean, these troopers fight for our country, get whacked by high-caliber bullets, get their asses blown off by explosions, and possibly die for us, the Americans, and yet we do nothing but shun them away from our society when they return. This movie has a spectacular storyline, skilled actors, great visual effects and delivers quite a punch. WATCH THIS MOVIE! Or you're a fool.
Underworld (2003)
A wonderful horror/action movie
Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman and stars the beautiful Kate Beckinsale, is a worth-watcher. I watched this movie around Christmas time (ironic, isn't it?)and it gave me nightmares and pleasant dreams (nightmares - Lycans and vampires biting my flesh and sucking my blood out through silly straws/pleasant dreams - Selene naked). I thought it was quite a nice and intriguing flick. This movie basically talks about the war between Lycans (werewolf things) and vampires (blood-sucking horrors). A beautiful vampire (Beckinsale)meets a werewolf (Scott Speedman) who holds some kind of key to the end of the war and together, they battle the evil Lucian (Michael Sheen). I honestly have to say that I've wet my pants many times throughout the film so check it out, if you DARE!
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
An intriguing tale
This movie was a spectacular feast. It talks about a gathering of heroes from literature whom fights the Fantom and his plot to take over the world. The movie features a hunter, a vampire, a Secret Service agent, a sea captain, an immortal, a man whom cannot be seen by the naked eye once he becomes naked, and a crazy scientist high on some kind of body stimulating drug. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (quite a mouthful)has a solid storyline, seasoned veteran actors, and so much astounding visual effects that it will start you off with spasms and leave you in a coma with your eyes open wide and your mouth drooling.
Elektra (2005)
Worthless, brainless entertainment that only a retard would enjoy!
Elektra, the somewhat sequel to Daredevil, IS HORRIBLE! When I first picked up this movie at Hollywood Video, I thought it would be a fun chick flick and gave it a Hell's chance. While I was watching the film,it was a major disappointment. The film was too jumpy, which is my term for little to no solid explanation and often skipping from one thing to another thing which sometimes has nothing to do with the movie or confusing. Anyway, enough about my feelings about this movie, time for a little description about the plot. This movie talks about Elektra, who is a hired assailant in the beginning of the movie. Soon, she meets a family and decides to save them from The Hand, an evil group of wacko killers. The only thing I enjoyed about this movie was Jennifer Garner. Her going around kicking ass in a hot red suit. Please, do not fall for the publicity and over generous comments about this movie, AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Shrek 2 (2004)
A great movie, lives up to its predecessor!
The ogre is back, and this time, he has a wife! This movie begins where the previous movie left off. The movie is about a reunion with the parents of Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz, Charlie's Angels), the king (John Clesse, Around the World in 80 Days) and queen (Julie Andrews, The Princess Diaries)of Far, Far, Away. The mommy approves her marriage with Shrek (Mike Myers, Austin Powers) while her daddy has negative thoughts about it (I mean, how often do you see a smelly, ugly, green ogre hitch with a hot, sexy-ass babe? Not very often). The king plans with the Fairy Grandmother for her snotty son, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett, To Kill a King) and hires the ogre hit-man Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas, Spy Kids) to whack Shrek. Shrek along with his friend Donkey (Eddie Murphy, Nutty Professor) befriends the ferocious feline and goes off on an adventure filled with laughter, action, and suspense. A MUST SEE!!!
Mr. Deeds (2002)
S**t movie
When I first laid my sights on this movie at Hollywood Video, I thought it would be yet another Sandler film like Anger Management and The Waterboy, with lots of foul mouth language and dirty, crude humor; the kind of film I was in the mood for that night. When I finished watching the movie, I said to myself "Holy Hell, that was so corny and pathetic. WHERE DID THE ADULT HUMOR GO?" I mean honestly, the b*****d Steven Bell should have hired, J**us, I don't know! Maybe a drama king like Tobey McGuire or Christian Slater, but oh, hell no! He hired Adam Sandler, comedy superstar! Anyway, this movie is about Longfellow Deeds; a gullible, selfless man who inherits $40,000,000.00 from the uncle he never knew before that he had. So he flies to The Big Apple (NYC) to sign a few papers and inherited the money. Soon, he meets a journalist named Babe Bennett who disguises herself as a school nurse by the name of Pam Dawson, falls in love with her, and all of a sudden the movie that was SUPPOSED to be comedy turns into a F****N' romantic drama! I HATE ROMANCE! Please, don't be a brainless f**k like me and watch the movie. If you see it in a video store, give it the finger and move on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
