Taskmaster: OLLIE (2018)
Superb
The whole episode, as per usual, was brilliant but we rewound and rewatched the two minutes where James "suggested" Greg open the box, so many times.
Everybodies genuine shock, surprise and reactions were priceless.
Absolutely hilarious.
Message Man (2018)
Very Good
Very very good. Production is classy and the action scenes are realistic and superbly choreographed. This is so much better than 90% of films that try the same thing.
Star Trek: Discovery: Rosetta (2022)
It's just embarrassing now.
Imagine if you worked somewhere similar to "NCC Touchy Feely Pep Talk D" and every time you greeted a colleague they immediately looked forelorn, dropped their brow and spontaneously vocalised their innermost feelings, fears, weaknesses and failings. Your head would implode within a weak.
Do the writers not see the pathetic irony that the way this simpering, mumbling, woeful bunch of weak willed, wretched muppets plan to communicate with the DMA is through.... FEELINGS and EMOTIONS.
One truly brilliant scene that sums up what this shambles has become. Micky puts her hand to a receptical and them stares into the eyes of her team and whimpers "It Feels Like.... LOVE". Freaking Brilliant.
Star Trek: Discovery: Rubicon (2022)
Hallmark do it better
Billions of lives are at imminent risk from the potential actions of one small ship. Luckily you have a ready arsenal that could decimate a planet, your crew are exemplary and trained to be best of the best. You possess the technology and backing of the mighty federation and computing power unmatched in the galaxy. So your obvious plan to stop the, very small craft, surely is to utilise the resources above ? No, just send Booker's girlfriend to stop him and use the stronger powers of hope, love, mutual back-slapping and optimsism. AAARRRRRGGGHHHH.
Anyone else want to metaphorically forearm smash whimpery, purring, insipid Micky in the face ??
Star Trek: Discovery: All In (2022)
Soooooo bad
I enjoy Discovery and it's generally a pretty decent, well thought out and creative series BUT every now and then they drop in an incredibly embarrassing cringefest episode like this. It's like the worst ever episode of "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", just not as convincing and seemingly without the budget.
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956)
Sontar-Ha, Sontar-Ha, Sontar-Ha
To see the Sontarans heavily defeated on their very first foray onto earth WITHOUT the Dr's help is truly historic. This is a pretty good documentary, especially for the year it was shot.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Decent enough production but......
At this stage I'm only three eps in and it's a decent enough story with temendous scenery, good special effects and great convicing visual sets
BUT......
With the exception of Daniel Henney and The Outposts stunning Izuka Hoyle, the actors are so incredibly charmless and just BLAH. Not good nor bad, just utterly unconvicing, bland, uncharismatic and well BLAH. You can't hate them but It's impossible to route for any of them, their relationships or care a jot for their fates.
AND Why oh why in a small, medieval like, village with no travel or dicernable neighbours does everyone talk with a different regional accent and dialect and use differect slang ???
The Outpost (2018)
The ending this unique show deserved.
This was such a heartwarming. Fitting and brilliant end to an absoluely fantastic show.
It tempered the loss of the show actually ending. I will miss it.
If there was one act which captured the shows mixture of action, intrigue and humour. Its towards the end when when, amid the chaos, Janzo is about to salute Marvin and Wren scornfully stops him. Brilliant.
The Brink (2020)
Engrossing beginning to end.
Low budget indies based around "humans scavaging in desolate wastelands, in the aftermath of a nuclear winter" are 10 a penny and can be cringeworthy at best or just funny and forgettable. This was so at odds with that. It's way way better than it has any right, or you even expect it to be.
Easily, the best of it's ilk Ive seen, indie or not.
IMO a solid , enjoyable, thought provoking and genuine 9/10.
Disturbing the Peace (2020)
Sweet Holey Moley
WTAF ? This has got to be a wind-up Right ? Surely Right ? Or A school project from unsupervised drunken kids, a complex tax evasion scheme, a lost bet between two drug ravaged millionaires. Well What ? How in the name of all that is cinematic poop can what I've just watched be explained rationally ??
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
We are building a force of Extwordinary magnitude.
This just felt like an underfunded, tinny, badly choreographed, poorly acted 1970 Kung Foo film.
Kentucky Fried Movie did it more realistically and better.
Outpost Earth (2019)
Decent, watchable and importantly - enjoyable.
This is undeniably made on a smaller budget but this is not a reason to give a lower rating, as it seems many have.
The story is decent and has a beginning, middle and end.
The special effects are not Avatar standard but are a real, decent and honest attempt to carry the story.
The actors are largely decent enough and the acting exactly what the story calls for.
The science is realistic and understandable and not babbled for effect.
There are no weak, gratuitous or irrelivant scenes that don't add to the story.
ALSO the usual victim of low budget sci fi is poor quality DIALOGUE. This is relevant, understandable and well delivered.
I really enjoyed this and despite seeming to justify the film - it's because of the story and production and not in spite of them.
Travel Man: 48 Hours in...: Tenerife (2017)
Great Episode.
Richard is brilliant Richard but Dunham is so enthusiastic, funny and open to experiences, it makes this a tremendous episode. Like two old friends that just want to mess about.
The Predator (2018)
9/10
Far fetched and absolutely ludicrous story. Just as it should be.
Yet really well done, likeable characters and grabs you attention from minute one.
We all loved every single minute of it.
The Blacklist: Konets (2021)
Hallelujah
The deep warm sky is blue, the grass is green and puppies are frollicking in the fields. All seems right in the world again because series 8 was a painful travesty and is over.
THE INSIPID, BREATHLESS, WISHY-WASHY & CLUELESS KEEN IS GONE. Close your eyes and dream of a world where series 7 has finished and by some benevolent twist of cosmic fate series 8 was never made. Now i'm genuinely looking forward to series 9. LONG LIVE RED.
Shadow Wolves (2019)
WOW
WOW.....
I believe you can reject most of the negative and critical reviews. They can't do justice to how utterley and completely mesmerisizingly rubbish this confusing, badly written, amateurishly acted gibberish is on so many levels it;s crazy.
Thunder Force (2021)
Jeez
You dont need a decent script, or an engaging story and which fool thinks that a film needs a start, middle and end ?????
This is funny because apparently all you need to carry a film is these two.
So my full, honest albeit lengthy review - WOW its hilarious because they are F*t.
Chri*t its bad.
Anna (2019)
Superb
A genuine original, brilliantly plotted and superbly acted thriller BUT WOW Sasha Luss. She is as believable and talented as she is beautiful and that's saying something.
Prospect (2018)
Excellent
9 out of 10, not because this is good for low budget sci-fi or better than most of it's ilk but genuine 9 out of ten from me because it was an intriguing story, really good acting, realistic dialogue and an authentic setup. I really enjoyed this film very much.
