My Sister Eileen (1955)
A Lost Gem
What a combination of amazing talent! Jule Styne (future composer of "Gypsy" and "Funny Girl") and Leo Robin (Styne's collaborator on "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes") wrote the songs, the early Fosse choreography is exceptional (LOVE the dance duel with him and Tommy Rall), Blake Edwards co-wrote the screenplay, and Betty Garrett and Janet Leigh are incredibly appealing. Lots of similarities to "On The Town" (possibly why they chose to start fresh and not do the Bernstein-Comden-Green version "Wonderful Town"?) Anyway, this is a delight for anyone who loves a good old fashioned 1950's Hollywood musical.
Vultures (1984)
Bits And Pieces Look Interesting
I do not know if audiences are supposed to realize that several of the characters in the film are all played by the same actor, Jim Bailey, but... Years ago, Jim put out a video compilation of his film and stage work (he is best known for doing dead-on impersonations of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand while singing the vocals himself). This fairly homemade video (frustratingly full of many TV appearances with no titling or credits) includes several scenes from this film. Although it doesn't look like it allows him to display his amazing singing abilities, it does provide a wonderful showcase for his versatility by allowing him to play several outrageous eccentric characters. The tone of the film feels like a low-budget B-horror movie. If this is ever made available via home video, it is definitely a must-see for Jim Bailey fans.
