6 giorni sulla Terra (2011)
You might want to watch more than once.
There is so much going on in this film that it was a work of genius to link it all together. The actors are good, mostly veterans of Italian cinema. Special effects range from excellent CGI to obviously low budget practical effects that still entertain well. This is a must see for those interested in Aliens, demons/pagan deities, and conspiracy theories. A great movie, I look forward to more from the makers.
Detroit (2017)
A fictitious version of real events.
This film is what is called a dramatization, which is in keeping with the old the tag line "based on a true story." There was indeed an incident at the Algiers, and three young men died. Exactly what happened that night has been researched and debated for fifty years. Half a century and nobody can tell the actual story with certainty. This film gives one version, but that is not based on good evidence, it is a theory of what may have happened, and fictionalized to make for more exciting cinema.
I would give this movie a 10 as a propaganda piece, zero as a documentary, but more than one star for good acting which is unfortunately countered by inauthentic locations. The Algiers is gone, but much of 1968 Detroit is still there, and if you are going to build a set there is plenty of space in Motown, yet the filmmakers did it in Massachusetts and missed the opportunity to include as much authentic Detroit scenery and the presentation of real Detroit people as could be done with a film set 50 years ago.
Sisterhood of Death (2012)
Awful
I saw a lot of positive reviews and so I was suckered into wasting time by watching this amateurish (in a bad way) film that appears to have benefited from being reviewed by friends and family. Since I wasted time watching a very bad film, the least I can do is spend some time letting others know that behind all of the shill 5 star ratings, this is a crap ambush.
The Occultist (2009)
This is what happens when extras are cast as actors.
Some of the cast have several roles credited to them on IMDb, though the parts must have been minimal indeed as it appears that none of those experiences in film developed any acting skill among this bunch.
I really could go grab random people off of the street and have a lot better of a cast just based on the fact that I would have to work hard searching high and low to find anybody worse off in front of a camera.
The soundtrack was horrible, the non-musical sound effects were worse. The sets were laughable. I am serious in relating that they put some plastic tables inside a tarped off area to film in, as if they couldn't actually be bothered to look for anything resembling a classroom or an operating room.
The worse part was those ridiculous blinking lights for special effects. I have seen better blinking lights by squinting too hard. This movie was absolutely horrid, and the exaggerated stereotypical accents effected by the two main characters were so unpleasant to the ear I could not even leave the volume up enough to mock this turd like a MST3000 episode.
I really hate whomever green lighted this poor excuse for a waste of time. Why couldn't they just have smoked a joint and watched grass grow if they had nothing better to do?
