I love history! My specific areas of interest are: Pocahontas/Jamestown/John Smith, Sacajawea/Lewis and Clark expedition and Titanic history. I also love American Indian history in general, though I only know about a few specific tribes. I also love movies, of course.

I am hooked!
I randomly caught an episode of this a few weeks ago and after catching parts of two other episodes I decided I was intrigued enough to actually watch it from the beginning. Fast forward to today and I have watched every episode and am eagerly waiting for the next episode of season 3 to air! This show has great action, comedy, drama, horror all wrapped into one. There is a lot of heart mixed in with the relationships between everyone and it all just works together so well. I can't believe I had never really heard of it or thought to look into what it was all about. I LOVE Buffy the Vampire Slayer and this show has a lot of similar vibes to it and is probably one of the reasons it attracted me once I caught it and watched some.
This is not a show for everyone and while I am thoroughly enjoying it I can see how others could pick it apart for many reasons. I just love it though!
Overall, I think this is a show worth watching if you love shows like Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc. I just love it! I am glad I found it and hope it keeps up the interesting, complex, and great storylines in season 4, and hopefully even beyond. Much like Buffy and Angel I do not see it being able to go on for an extended amount of time, but at this point I can see it lasting for several more seasons at least if they keep up the pace.
Loving (2016)
A beautiful and wonderful movie!
This really is a must see. For me, the movie is so good mostly because of how understated and simple it was. Everything was subtle and yet incredibly powerful, from the acting to the music to the cinematography.
The music is not something I usually take too much note of in movies and yet I did here because it was not used as often. A few times there was background score and other times just natural sounds like the wind, bugs, etc. Some songs were used in the background and a few times they would bleed into a scene and the same song would be playing on a radio the characters were listening to.
The acting was incredible and when people say that these are award worthy performances I can say I fully agree. I watched The Loving Story documentary again on June 12 and can say that Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga truly became the Lovings to me. Both were also able to say volumes with the simplest of facial expressions. At times I really felt like I was watching the real Mildred and Richard Loving. Their performances kept making me flash back to the documentary because at times it felt so much like I was watching a fuller version of it.
I also really loved the cinematography and the simple shots that focused on a flower here and there. Something about it just made it all connect and feel more real.
Everything about this movie is subtle, understated, and simple, but that is also what makes it so very powerful. It all made it feel more realistic, like I was a fly watching these people live their lives and have to deal with such hatred and racism instead of watching a movie about them. I also admit I shed a few tears at the end when a few of the after events information was shared. I know I will be seeing this again, especially if is makes it to a theater closer to home, and will be buying it when it is released on DVD/Bluray.
Neither Wolf Nor Dog (2016)
Wonderful movie!
I heard from two dear friends about the Kickstarter to get this movie made and the rest is history, as they say. I received my Blu-ray of the movie a few weeks ago and was finally able to sit down and watch it. It is a wonderful film that compliments the wonderful book. If you liked the book at all this is a must watch!
It starts off slowly, but that is to be expected and in doing so the film draws you into the world subtly. This is the second movie I have watched in the last several months that made me feel like I was watching a documentary more than a movie (the other movie was Loving). Everything felt so real! I felt like a fly on the wall simply watching Dan, Grover, and Nerburn. They felt like real people and not actors. The music, cinematography, use of sound, all of it coalesced to create this real world. It almost seemed like if I talked they would all be able to hear me.
I love movies and have several that engross me every time I watch, but only a select few (this and Loving) have hit me with how subtle and yet how very real they were. Watching this made the book come to life in a truly real way and it was wonderful. The slow pace worked perfectly as, like the book, you want to soak it all in and really hear and absorb what is going on and being talked about. Just like the book it leaves a lasting impression that ripples far beyond the end credits.
