Heavenquest: A Pilgrim's Progress (2020)
Rubbish as rubbish can be: not a Christian movie
First of all, abusing the title of John Bunyan's book " A Pilgrim's Progress" doesn't make your movie great, doesn't make it look like it is the same story, and it definately is not alike that story.
Much in this movie is not Christian at all. Seems they prefer to please the world rather than bring a genuine Christian "fantasty" movie. A "fabled good king"? Meaning God?
The acting, the special effects, the story, it is all bad as can be. And much in this movie is more from the evil side than from the good side.
The only good work is the cinematography/camerawork. Some may see this as finally a "Christian fantasy" movie, but the last part is more present than the first one. Avoid it if you can.
Holland: Natuur in de Delta (2015)
missing something
I m glad not to hear that awful commentary that David Attenborough always gives. However, in some ways the commentators act as if we are children. They can't help it, it's the text they got to read.
Though a beautiful doccumentary showing that even such a small country like The Netherlands has impressive nature, the documentary has no line, no plot, and lots of animals and birds we see are not named leaving the viewer with questions.
Still, it does impress and stimulates people to think about not just protecting nature in far away tropical paradises but also nearer to home
Klaus (2019)
do I need to say much?
Oneof those few gems in annimation that comes along every some years.... A must see, preferable during Christmas, but also any other time of the year enjoyable.
Sit back, relax, laugh, cry and go to bed happy.
Joker (2019)
Disgusting promotion for violence
There is one thing "positively" to be said about this movie, it is that Phoenix is a great actor. And that's all. The movie is a pure commercial for the use of violence. It is disgusting, but at the same it shows us what America is all about. Gun violence from the right, protest violence from the left, America is going down and Hollywood is leading. Before I walked out of this movie half way, already over 20 people left
Noah (2014)
Stick to the source
No matter if you make a ovie based on a true life story, a novel or, in this case a true book like the Bible, STICK to the source.
This movie is full of rubbish, from the first minutes till the end. If you don't believe the bible, don't make a movie about it, if you do, stick to it's truth.
Stone monsters? Noah killing people? People trying to attack the arc? I have never seen so much nonsense in one movie, not to mention that the movie from the beginning till the end is just blue light from the blue screen, hardly any natural colors. Glad I never went to watch in the cinema and spend money on it. No saw it without paying, and still it is a waste of time.
The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson (2017)
unwill
Amazing documentary, with an amazing woman going for the truth about Marsha's life. But as usual, American authorities refuse cooperation. Because they have something to hide. A must see.
RuPaul should fund going higher!!!
Hellboy (2019)
a hippy with long hair in a story told as a fairytale
Makeovers.... spinoffs or the famous Toystory 4,5,6,7, etc It feels like they wanted to prove they could do better than the previous Hellboy, but they couldn't. It's not funny, irritating is the voice over telling as if they start the LOTR anew, and it misses so much that you wonder if they cut out more than half. I don't know, it's childish at moments, presented as a fairytale and then as a videogame, and not funny at all. The wrong actors chosen, and so it is the first movie in about 30 years I felt I wasted my money totally (and that's only the second time in 57 years...)
Paul, Apostle of Christ (2018)
amazed and yet
Watching this movie takes a lot of courage in many ways. First of all cause you are watching a story from the bible, so unless you are willing to accept that what you hear is true, and that this is not the "1 out of 100 action movies out there" you re bound for boredom.
Secondly, there is courage needed cause if the message gets through to you, you must realise that what you see is not just the time of the Roman Emperor's. It's now, with violence against Christians from the USA to Paksitan, from Europe to China, from Nigeria to Mexico.
All that said: the story is definately from a catholic point of view, not a biblical one..... yet still close to the biblical truth. Cinematographic amazing, but overal to dark, great camera work, costume design is top, and I have no idea where it is filmed, but you feel like you are in Rome from that time.
Still, after watching this movie and going home quietly not wanting to talk about it for a while, I knew there was also something wrong with it. The main issue....everyone talks constantly as if they talk in slowmotion. Even in moments like anger, they talk as if they have to count 10 seconds in between every word they speak. There is nothing natural about the way they talk All the way throughout the movie and that can put you off within 10 minutes. It did with me the very first time, and it took me a full year to decide I still wanted to see the full movie.... It's message will get to you for sure when you watch it till the end, but you won't have the feeling of having watched a nice, or a good movie.
Benyamin Biang Kerok (2018)
Head no tail
In my life I have seen quite many Indonesian movies. There have been a few gems, like Arisan or the teenmovie Ada Apa Dengan Cinta. But in general the movies are bad, with a lot of bad acting, overdone shouting, weird and awfull horror (ever since the Japanese movie The Ring got popluar).
And the last movies even show some rediculous fake soft-porno.
So, we have a comedy (Indonesians love music and bad humor), and the poster looked promising.
Well, don't even bother to go watch it. There is no plot, it even looks like the plot dissapears halfway the movie, and every few minutes you get an episode that is connected with the rest as loose sand.
If you think that at the end of the movie you get it all, you are wrong. Even the end in itself is unbelievable. Something like "we cut the movie here and if you dare to return in December 2018 we have the rest of the story".
There are maybe 2-3 moments that are really funny, even though you hear people laugh during the movie at the strangest moments, they are not laughing at the real funny moments.
So why a review when there is nothing to review? Well, there is one item that returns during the movie all the time that is actually quite nice, and that is the music. Jazzy at times, a tempo doeloe (historic) feeling mixed with some nice dancing. If I would have to rate the soundtrack it might have been a 7 or 8. But in no way it is able to save the movie from being a compleet disaster.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
when you think it couldn't get any better and they actually did
Amazing, how some of the actors who we first saw in the previous episode have grown into their caracter. Fantastic, even Mark Hamilton did better I think than in the first 3 in which he played! "Finn" finally gotshape from some coward to a real hero now, and Adam Driver finally has become the vilan you expect hi to be. A critical fan of Disney (Not everything that Disney touches become magic, like the awful thing they did with Coco where the original is 1000x better) I think they let the director and producer go their own way which lead to a fantastic result. I found myself a few times sitting at the edge of my chair, and the only thing I could say at the end was "wow". And believe me, with 55 I don't say that easily anymore about a movie. There is much to say about special effects, costume design, small and big roles, exiting moments and the one and only shot which I thought they could have left out. But my conclusion, (for the first time in the history of the Star Wars saga!) is, bring onthe Oscars. they deserve it!
San Andreas Quake (2015)
really? DO NOT WATCH!
Okay, I watched 19 minutes and already with the first quake I see the biggest nonsense: the guy rescue a girl from inside who immediately simply walks with him, with outside a few people on their knees protecting each other for falling rumble and others just sit relaxed at a pick nick table as if nothing is happening there. A hippo that is totally fake, people who don't acre about others and just go for themselves, I've never seen so many stupid things in just the first part of a movie. Even for the stupid 2,75 I rented it at google-play, I feel like I should have bought a coffee instead. And that in 54 years of my life, I never had it before.
