Yellowstone: Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops (2022)
Writing is pretty stupid.
At the beginning of the season there is a big, multi-pronged attack. A elected official and a government office are attacked with automatic gun fire, an office building is bombed, and a private ranch is attacked by multiple assailants and there is no national press demanding answers for what happened? There is no apparent FBI or ATF investigation? It's all swept under the rug? Pretty unrealistic. Jamie's sister lying in wait for him to show up to dump a body is pretty unrealistic too. Where'd she hide her car? How secret of a dead body dumping spot can it be if everyone appears to be in on it? And how does Jamie's biological dad come up with the money to pay the number of guys involved in the attack on the Duttons? I'm okay with far fetched in a fictional series, but this is too far fetched and illogical.
Gunsmoke: The Lady (1965)
Unexpected ending.
A good story with dramatic turns and a lot of excellent acting performances by guest actors. A woman and her niece stop in Dodge to earn some money on their way to California. The older woman meets and falls in love with a local widower and agrees to marry him, threatening the dreams of the niece who has her heart set on going to San Francisco. The niece decides to hire a gunfighter to kill the widower in the hopes of rescuing her dream. An unexpected happy ending after seeing so many Gunsmoke episodes with similar storyline setups end in tragedy. Clear that John Meston didn't write this one. Everyone gets what they deserve at the end.
Gunsmoke: Run, Sheep, Run (1965)
A story of an absolute idiot.
The story starts with a young husband portrayed as being a victim after being scammed, somewhat, out of his ranch. He signed over the deed to his ranch for just the promise to be paid, but didn't notice that the promise was to pay a year in the future. That was the first act of idiocy, signing over his deed without having payment in hand. The young husband, Tom, had plans to use the money to start a new life with his wife in California. What follows is a series of more idiotic decisions, despite the sound advice of Marshal Dillon, that leads to his presumably being hung for inadvertently murdering someone. In the end, you're left feeling somewhat happy to see him destined for the hangman because he certainly earned it with his idiotic decisions. Someone like that is too foolish to live among people.
Gunsmoke: I Call Him Wonder (1963)
Cute but ridiculous
Ron Hayes was very enjoyable in this episode but the storyline was a bit ridiculous. In the beginning of the episode Ron Hayes' character is playing poker with 3 men in some other town, wins a good deal of money from them and then after the game, the three beat him up and steal his money, leaving him with just a couple of coins. Later on in Dodge, Hayes encounters the same group of three men, and laughs off the fact that they beat him up and stole his money, no hard feelings at all. Even more ridiculously, he agrees to play poker with them again. What did he think would happen? Hayes wins their money again and walks away drunk from the poker game with the money as if he hadn't a care in the world. Ridiculous. And of course the three follow him out of the saloon and plot to rob him again. But for some ridiculous reason instead of just beating him up and stealing his money like last time, the three decide to take the Indian boy Hayes has taken on and force Hayes to pay to get him back. Ridiculous. But the Indian boy escapes and fetches Marshal Dillon to save the day. Cute episode but a bit much.
Gunsmoke: Collie's Free (1962)
Unsatisfying storyline
Collie comes out of prison after 8 years full of bitterness and resentment and seemingly bent on revenge on Matt Dillon for arresting him. Collie makes a point of messing with Matt's head, making ominous statements about what he had planned for him. Collie is angry with his wife and son for working for the man he shot and stole from while he was in prison for his crimes. Overall, Collie is angry at everyone else for the consequences and aftermath of his crimes. So what does he have planned? We'll never know because the story takes a bizarre and unrealistic twist as the selfish and resentful man suddenly becomes selfless and noble. Not buying it. Very good acting, rather nonsensical story telling.
Gunsmoke: Catawomper (1962)
Amusing story.
Amusing episode with a wonderful comic performance by Sue Ane Langdon
