One for the found footage fans
2 June 2022
Like his previous work, Rob savage goes modern found footage horror and delivers on the scares. The practical effects in this and seemless CGI are really impressive and had me cringing in some parts with just how gory it was. A lot is left to your imagination caused by the out of control camera, but found footage is almost its own genre by now so this sorta thing is to be expected.

Like 'Host' the film is short and sweet, I feel you could shave 15-20 mins off this one but apart from the long set up when it kicks off, it doesn't really stop. Both films give you a little time to catch your breath before taking it away again.

My only main problem was the unlikeable lead actress. She gave a great performance if she was going for someone you love to hate, and I was glad to see her put through hell, no redeeming qualities about her, and I feel as though she learns nothing through her ordeal, but it was an entertaining journey.

Would love to see what Savage can do with a bigger budget. He clearly has a lot of love for found footage and is bringing some creative new technique and scares to the table, will be following his career from now on.

Jackass 4.5 (2022 Video)

Much funnier than 'forever'
23 May 2022
This felt like old school jackass. Flowed alot smoother than the actual movie, the introduction to the new cast went a bit deeper and felt like we actually got to know them a bit better.

Be warned, there is a lot more butt stuff in this movie and personally the only time I have ever retched watching a jackass movie is from watching a certian sushi stunt in this one.

Very funny, strangely heartfelt, exciting to see where the new cast take it from here with new TV show announced.

Peace.

"I am the big bad wolf" - Neil Maskell doing what he does best
6 April 2022
Fans of Kill List will love to see the return of Neil Maskell as a dark, menacing force that is wrapped up in mystery.

Bull (Neil Maskell) returns home after a decade, intent on seeking revenge on those who wronged him, the more the story moves on, the more we understand his motives.

It is a simple revenge story that packs a punch, is gritty and realistic in the way British movies do best, great performances from everyone on screen. Brutal kills is an understatement.

The only reason is do not give a solid 9 or 10, the ending. Although not a terrible final act, the last 3 - 5 mins are very "marmite". I said out loud "ok then" as the credits started to roll. However, still a solid, fun and brutal ride i enjoyed.

Sasquatch (2021)

If you go out to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise....
22 April 2021
Felt the need to write a review as the rating is very unfair, seems a lot of people are upset about the title and subject matter, if you are expecting more 'Finding Bigfoot' then move on. (side not - i just checked and that show is 12 seasons in, 12!!!??! You'd think after 12 years of searching you would call it a day)

Davd Holthouse takes a deep dive into a story he heard in his younger days about a Bigfoot/Sasquatch.

Lots of twists, lots of jaw dropping moments. I personally watched the entire mini-series in one sitting as i was loving it. It's Scary, it funny, it's sad, it has it all. One thing that really stood out to me was the honesty of Davd Holthouse. Really hope to see more projects from this guy, more stories of his past work as he seems like a very interesting man.

Highly recommended.

Gangs of London (2020– )

Gangland London turned up to 11
15 May 2020
This show blew my head off. I had heard the director of 'the raid' movies had created this so i expected a brutal story of London's gangs, but it also has some of the most mind blowing action i have ever seen on TV! The over all story is a slow burn but well worth it when the ball starts to roll. i watched the first three episodes over three nights and binged the rest and i am so glad i did. Gareth Evans only steps in to direct two episodes and it is VERY obvious which ones, i reckon episode 5 will go down in history as one of the craziest episodes of any TV show ever! Really want there to be a second season and REALLY want Gareth Evans permanently in the director's chair.

Starts strong, gets a bit wobbly
10 May 2020
First few seasons are great fun. a bit silly in places but still has an air of cool about it. Tom Hardy adds a lot. season 5 is cringey, and boring. FYI all the actors who portrayed the billy boys in season 5 are now banned from the whole of Scotland

Uneventful extended episode
12 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This felt more like an extended episode of the show, with one glaring flaw. Walt made the show what it was. Sure he shows up in a flashback, however, in my opinion the show had one of the greatest ending of all time, i felt Jesse's story had been wrapped up, but people demand to know what happens, that's just the way it is. I say uneventful in my title as the whole movie is about one thing, Jesse seeks out money to give to Ed and move to Alaska. Introduced an interesting PTSD angle, that was only an excuse to flashback to Todd. Jesse, one of the most wanted fugitive's in USA, yet there is no police chase or confrontation. I felt like there was something missing. I wanted to love it, but just didn't. Even the way it looked didn't feel the same, no bright popping colours, just a dull colour pallet. And technology is amazing nowadays, you can change a 50 year old man to a teen, Christian Bale can completely transform his body, Yet neither Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemons or Matt Jones could lose a bit of weight to look like they did, a little touch up in post and boom, no one would notice.

disappointing and divisive
16 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't see this one coming, everything on paper for this movie got me so hyped. Pitched as a movie set around the Manson murders, Tarintino at the helm, Leo and Brad in the lead. My mind loved that idea.

instead of a Tarintino manson movie i got a "story" of a washed up actor who quit drinking and got back on track? his stuntman who just...feeds a dog? people driving... the last 20 minutes felt very Tarantino and what i came to see. but it wasn't enough to make me forget about the 2+ hours of bordum before. the diologe wasn't what I'd come to love, music was all over the place, couldn't tell you one specific song, i heard too many. hopefully his tenth film is worthy of going out with a bang, this, was not. saying that, i saw it with two friends, one hated it, the other loved every aspect of it.

An intimate documentary with swagger
10 June 2019
This movie pretty much starts off at the end. oasis is done, new paths begin for Liam. it covers the highs and lows of post oasis life and then kicks into gear with the triumphant comeback.

I found this to be a great follow up to supersonic, where that film relied on animation and archive footage, this has more personal interviews. Liam. feels honest and vunrable at times with certian subjects.

fans will enjoy it. Noel will hate it.

as you were...

How High 2 (2019 TV Movie)

Not even a good stoner movie.
14 May 2019
I imagine that filmmakers must think that a stoner comedy easy money. "stoners will like it" is what they must say. I grew up on the original. it's by no means an amazing movie, but a cult classic. up there with 'half baked', 'grandma's house' and 'Friday'. a strongish cast with hip hop legends. THIS. this is not that. I don't think anyone involved has ever smoked. no link to first movie so title is a cash grab. I felt old as I didn't know anyone who I was supposed to. the pink haired guy mumbled his way through while the other does a really bad Kevin Hart impression. not even so bad it's good, just plain awful. for me, this is by far the worst sequel of the year so far, maybe the worst movie, period. please avoid at all cost, go rewatch how high.

How in God's name does Adam Wingard keep getting work?
26 August 2017
Let me begin this with i used to see Adam Wingard as a breath of fresh air to a genre in trouble. in a genre polluted with jump scares and zombies, here comes this director and his friends with some new ideas. when i first saw VHS, i was hyped, i followed all the directors who produced a short and this led me on to some real hidden gems in the horror genre. same with VHS 2. so i saw 'A Horrbile Way To Die' the film really got under my skin, twisted with my head and then suddenly in it's final act, lost everything it had going for it, the direction changed, the tone changed, characters even changed. It felt as though the writers had sparked a joint by act three and just went with the 'creative juices'. by this point 'You're Next' had eventually come out after being surrounded by hype from several festivals. I saw it, was more than impressed by the first two acts, and then felt the third act really let the film down, *joint was sparked* "so do you think we should keep this horror vibe or just go all out comedy and put a blender in someones head?" - this is how i am more than sure it played out. Same for 'The Guest' great little movie for an hour or so, almost a mysterious action film. that decided it wanted to be a horror in it's final act. 'Blair Witch' (in my opinion the worst sequel/reboot/horror of all time) took the more than simple premise and decided it needed to be pimped, so by act 3, and heads were in clouds, a simple found footage psychological fright fest was turned in to a head spinning supernatural monster movie caught in some sort of time loop? the only these things these movies have in common is the horrible change in tone during the third act, Lines of dialogue that NOBODY would ever say in times of stress and a sure fire 80's synth soundtrack even classic 80's tunes with singing over dialogue. So is Death Note any different? Of course not. If you do not constantly compare to the source material, then it is easier to watch. but if you go in to it with a full on comparison in mind, prepare to have a very rage induced one hour and thirty minutes. Nobody is the same as they are in the source material. When Light is first introduced to Ryuk, his reaction is laughable. his screams are somewhat comical. and Ryuk? almost well done, almost. Just because Wilem sounds good in your head, doesn't mean he will be. after watching this, i no longer believe he would be a fun 'older Joker' or a semi-decent live action Rick (rick and morty), i have lost faith in my own mind. the film tries to be cool in the way someone who grew up in the 80's thinks what kids now think is cool, if that makes sense. stupid slow-mo choices, stupid nods to the Manga that are poorly executed. the ONLY interesting thing about this film is 'L' the detective, nice to see Lakeith Stanfield in a new role, loving his filmography, although even he is hit by the Wingard third act curse, the character 'L' and this whole movie go through a massive change in tone, ears raped by 80's synth and eyes blasted with neon and slow-mo. I will never watch this film again, i only just now learned that Wingard and co are remaking 'I saw the Devil' one of the most brutal and unforgiving Korean movies i have ever seen. i have no faith for this at all. I hope he gets fired soon. Death To Wingard. We Hate You.

A Crazy day in Brooklyn
25 August 2017
i found this to be a fun little film from Brooklyn. It feels as though it had quite a low budget but that doesn't take anything away from the film, the action is intense and when it kicks off, it doesn't let go, or at least, doesn't for a little while, every now and again you get a little breather and get introduced to a character who is either an out there bad guy, or an out there good guy, nobody is normal in this movie apart from our two protagonists. during these breather moments when we are not being introduced to some over acted cameo, we are getting to know the two mains. some nice score from Aesop Rock, the only reason i knew about the movie in the first place and feel they never used the score to it's full advantage, lots of scenes without music where a nice little rhythm could have given it an extra bit of tension. Worth a one time watch.

Had potential but they Frenched the hell out of it....
11 July 2017
i was really hyped for this movie, heard great things and reviews after it's screening had me like "DAAAAYYYUUUMMM I GOTS TO SEE THIS SHIZZ" turns out that whomever was watching it and fainted and passed out, or was sick during the screening, clearly there had been some bad canopies kicking about at the festival. the film started out like an interesting take on cannibalism but somehow got turned in to a french as hell movie where you looked at the screen in dumbfounded-ness, like "really, that's how we're going to play this one out?" don't believe the hype, other great horrors this year to see instead are 'get out', 'split' and 'the devils candy' see those before getting your fixed ruined by the french, yet again.

Loads of fun
20 September 2016
if you are longing for comedy on the same level as 'Eastbound and down' then look no further. McBride is as strong as ever, quick witted, obscene and isn't afraid to wap out the acting chops for the feels. Goggins is hilarious as the camp narcissist. One of his most offensive and downright horrible characters to date, more hatful than 'the h8ful eight' the show is full of unrealistic situations that fuel the comedy in all the right ways. Each character is unique in their own way and brings something to the table for either there own jokes or to help the chemistry with the protagonists, Gamby & Russel Can't wait for the second season for some more over the top madness.

Disappointing from Zombie
18 September 2016
to be expected from Rob Zombie, not the best dialogue in the world, unlikable protagonists you want to die, Sheri moon zombie trying and the feeling of wishing he would get to the point. i loved 'House of 1000 corpses' & 'Devil's rejects' is one of my favorite horror films of all time. The only other of Zombie's films that even touches on those films in my opinion is 'Halloween' with the plot of killer clowns playing a totally crazy game of cat and mouse i thought such a simple story arc would be fun and playful horror, But Zombie tries something that i felt just fell flat on it's face. Almost cringy to watch at times, Nazi Clown midgets, c'Mon man... Still a strong director but a terrible writer. This film should be used as evidence to Zombie that he cannot carry a film on his own, if he hired a couple of writers to spoon feed him decent characters for his 'plot' then you could potentially get some decent horror movies. or at least seem satisfying dialogue. or maybe he should just stick to making the antagonist the main point of view, that way the script makes sense. over all, was looking forward to a night of madness , in stead got a student film on crack shot in a sweatshop.
