Fargo: Storia Americana (2020)
It's Fargo alright.
Not being American, I find it fascinating that whenever POC are depicted in a cult TV series, people go berserk, look for everything wrong with it, the cast, the acting, the story, the setting, the food catering for the actors, the lighting etc...ON THE FIRST EPISODE! Looking a certain way suddenly becomes a political debate. People...relax. It's just a TV show....
I didn't come in expecting much of this Fargo season 4. I loved the first 3 seasons but I kept thinking eventually, there's going to be a season that's lackluster. You can't please everyone all the time.
It had to be this one. Mainly because casting a stand-up comedian in the role of a mobster/godfather isn't credible. The whole time I keep thinking "It's Chris Rock!" Other than hat I thought it was an okay season, could've been better.
The cast, Rock aside, is interesting. Some interesting characters: the nurse, the crooked cop, the mormon played by Timothy Oliphant of Deadwood fame.
This season may have ruffled some feathers for reasons that escape me but the bizarre scenes and humour makes it a signature Fargo season. IT's FARGO alright.
Fear the Walking Dead: Channel 5 (2019)
At least there's good eatin'.
I ran out of bad things to say about this show. That would be beating a dead horse. Nothing makes sense.
It seems like even the actors have given up on trying to make this show credible. If it's a Zombie apocalypse, food and resources are scarce, am I right? Then why are there so many well fed and plump people running around? Is there a Burger King trailer attached to their convoy?
The Z apocalypse might be hell but at least the eating is good.
FIFA 21 (2020)
In Game-Purchase Scam. PLEASE AVOID.
I haven't played a football video game in a minute. So I bought FIFA 21. From the get go, I felt compelled to use real money to buy fake money to basically buy cards that yield the same players over and over. That was my mistake.
This is gambling. EA should be ashamed that they are peddling it to children. Why not tell kids to smoke crack while they're at it?
I haven't even gotten to the game itself: Broken, unrealistic, glitchy, scripted and the FUT community is just horrible. Horrible.
It was a bad decision to buy this game, that wasn't heap by the way. I wish I could sue EA for mental distress. That being said, I'm going to go outside and play real football with my 3-year-old. At least that's free, fun and he won't magically score on me at the last second of extra time. Shame on you EA.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Coming 2 America 1.5
Coming To America didn't need a sequel but here we are 3 decades later...
There isn't much of a story , it seems more like a tribute to the cast and characters of the original movie, minus the risky jokes of the 80's that would simply not fly today.
The iconic dance choreographies are back, this time with some real Africans, including cameos from Davido, Michael Blackson and Trevor Noah.
The costumes are original and regal.
It has funny parts, moving parts, moslty corny parts.
A mildly fun trip down memory lane. Other than that....it didn't need a sequel.
Really.
The 5th Wave (2016)
Teen Romance with CHILD SOLDIERS AND ALIENS!
Ugh....just ugh. Okay, an alien invasion is improbable but at least make the story plausible. Nothing in this movie is.Did I just say nothing? NOTHING!!!! Why would aliens put boots on the ground while the first three waves are enough to wipe out humanity. After that, all they had to do sit back and watch humans turn on each other.
Why are children sent on Spec Op missions? WTF? If you need to be told bedtime stories or sung a lullaby then you should probably not be in the army. Go be a drum boy or a cartridge loader.
The list goes on and on and I'm angry at myself for finishing this movie instead of doing house chores, which would be a million times more enjoyable.
Tedious to watch. Definitely not a movie meant for adults.
Ugh...just...ugh.
Fear the Walking Dead: We All Fall Down (2016)
Mature Audiences Only
I was half way through the episode and was wondering where the story was going, but at the same time, there is a lot going on in this episode. The cues are there if you are mature and patient enough. The pace is slow but the story gets you wondering what is going to happen next.
I know FTWD catches a lot of flack for...well, not being the Walking Dead but after Season 6 of the latter, I don't care much for the show anymore.
The tense moments between Strand and Daniel got me giggling like a schoolgirl.
The whole episode goes a little in depth as to the relationships between characters. The ending was a bit predictable but I've seen worse as far as endings go.
I liked it a lot. It's not senseless violence and unlimited ammo as if it were a video game or characters running off by themselves constantly.I can't take it anymore.
I hope FTWD gets better with each episode. I can handle smarter story telling and plots a little more elaborate that the ones found on TWD.
If FTWD goes down the proverbial potty, I'll stop watching AMC zombie shows all together.
Daredevil (2015)
Blind violence
This version of Daredevil is supposedly dark (ooooh, blood and gore. Yay.) So I gave it a shot. I love the Marvel Universe, having grown on Spiderman,Ironman and X-Men. Daredevil has always been one of my favorites superhero. My whole life I've expected and prayed for good renditions of my favorite superheroes but most of the time, I was left disappointed, thinking "Oh well, someone will get it eventually." I was excited when the 2003 Daredevil movie came out but it was so disappointing and lack luster that I couldn't remember anything else aside from the main cast: Ben Affleck--Daredevil--who was in everything at the time and the late Micheal Duncan Clarke--the Kingpin.
Fast forward a decade or so, and I'm feeling excited again. "This time they'll get it right" I thought to myself. I got to say, it's better than I expected, and at the same time it's not what I expected.
It's basically a crime drama with a blind (visually impaired) super hero. And this time--thank heavens--they got actual Russians (or Eastern Europeans) playing the roles of Russians. Perhaps due to the fact that the co-producer, Shevchenko, is Russian (or eastern European) himself. At least when it came to Russians, they got the accents right. Other nationalities...not so much.
I've watched every episode of season 1 and love the story so far. I love (actress) Rosario Dawson. She could have a TV reality show where, dressed in her worst grandma Sunday dress, she plants daisies in her back yard all day and I'd watch it. (Okay maybe not.) What prevented me from giving this show a maximum rating is, sadly, the hyper-violence. Yes, it's dark and gritty but watching a person getting beaten to death for several minutes brings me no joy (maybe I'm getting old, maybe by brain is saturated with decades and decades of violent imagery). If anything, it's sad and annoying; Just sitting there listening to bones get snapped, teeth get knocked out for 5 to 10 minutes.Or long torture scenes. Most episodes have long brutal beatdowns (Matt Murdock being on the receiving end of the majority of them)that,in all honesty, bring no added value. I prefer when my hero is the one dishing out beatdowns up and down the street like concert flyers.
If the 2015 Daredevil were the super hero I'd grown up with, I'm certain I'd be institutionalized right now.
Overall, I'd recommend the show if you're a fan and don't mind repetitive and mindless ultra-violence. If you're new to the Marvel Universe or are a casual follower, I'd suggest start with the comic books first. The story of Matt Murdock is worth reading.
Survivors (2008)
Oh Wow...
I've been patronizing IMDb for a while now and I love reading user reviews, though I never posted anything myself. Until I watched Survivors. Oh wow, where do I begin? I love Post Apocalyptic movies and TV series and I decided to give this one a try. I went in with an open mind but 10 minutes into the 1st episode of season 1 I found myself shaking my head in disgust:
The acting is terrible, plots are predictable, dialogue laughable (in a very bad way) and the group of survivors is so incredibly stupid, it's a wonder they survived the virus in the first place. Darwin is spinning in his grave.
The premise of every episode is the same: a moronic survivor decides to wander off by him/herself without telling the others (WHY???) and we, the viewer, have to watch a whole hour of survivors trying to find the wanderer. Sometimes two or three survivors go missing simultaneously!!!! They constantly sleep without keeping watch, they leave weapons behind, they don't set up roadblocks and decide to stop by the side of the road where the bad guys are more likely to catch them unawares.
Despite the U.K being a military superpower, there aren't any military weapons to be found: Bad guys terrorize the whole country with nothing but a double barrel hunting rifle and baseball bats. I think I even saw a javelin once. Un-be-lie-va-ble.
I had hoped season 2 would be better, because, well, 2 years went by and surely, the writers of this mindless drivel had wizened up and redeemed themselves by writing better plots and smarter characters but...
Season 2 was even worse. I'd rather sit through 6 hours of dental root canal work than watch this TV series ever again. If I could give it minus 100 stars I would.
It wasn't all bad, though. I watched the entire series because I'm a sucker for punishment and also because I wrote down all the stuff not to do during a post-apocalyptic setting. Then I tried jumping off a bridge.
Please save some time and some brain cells and watch something else. Thank you
