Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009)
Fantastic Fun
This is a fun, entertaining movie not to be taken to seriously. It was very entertaining. A comedic take on time travel. I ran across it on Amazon Prime and it had a four star rating so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Three average guys are in a pub, one of who just got fired; they are SciFi buffs talking about time travel end up wrapped up in a time travel debacle. I would not call it hilarious but it was fun.
It's in the same Genre as Galaxy Quest. A light hearted romp through the SciFi time travel zone.
Anna Faris plays in it. We all know and love her from the Scary Movies. She plays a small part but important to the movie. I really liked the Giant ant they threw in.
The Fourth Kind (2009)
Ummm Hmmm What to say
I don't even know how to rate this movie. I kept falling asleep on it. I had to rewind it at least a half a dozen times to see all of it. I was confused as to what was happening. Meaning, I was not sure if this was about aliens or a cover up about murders and/or some conspiracy. Nothing was ever clear. It seemed there was a conspiracy about something either to cover murders or aliens. I thought at one time the aliens were being used to cover murders but then I though maybe the opposite. I DON'T KNOW! That's the problem. Even, with the great actors in it. It could not be saved. The script and direction were just off. I was not drawn into the story. Even low budget films can be entertaining. NOT THIS MOVIE. Watch at your own risk. A real SNOOZE (literally)!
The Monster Squad (1987)
Irresistible 80s kids horror flick
Who can resist a kid's horror movie from the 80s. I love the 80s probably because I was a teenager. But things just seemed more light hearted back then. We had songs like Girls Just want to have Fun and Rappers Delight.
Movies like Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, ET, Adventures in Babysitting, the NeverEnding Story and the Monster Squad; just to name a few.
Fun, light hearted but entertaining. And that's just how I would describe this movie, "Entertaining." Special effects and make-up may not be great but that's what makes this so special and nostalgic. The story line and acting are really good and hold your attention.
A great Saturday afternoon movie. Fun for the entire family.
The Strange Calls (2012)
Andy Griffith in the Twilight Zone
I really like this quirky little show. I hope they make more but it doesn't look like it.
The show revolves around a young man who is a cop that is given an assignment in the boondocks. The residents of this location are a bit eccentric. Therefore, the calls he receives are out of the ordinary. When I say eccentric and out of the ordinary, I mean the type you only find in the Twilight Zone. However, even though the calls are strange they turn out to be hilarious.
For example: A man eats so much chicken he turns into one, A commercial jingle hypnotizes people into mowing lawns continuously, A long dead murderous cat comes back and continues his serial killing where he left off.
I found this show on Hulu so I watch the episodes over and over.
Wedding Palace (2013)
Hilarious
I thought this movie was a hoot. I watched it one Saturday afternoon on Amazon Prime. I had never heard of it but read the description and the rating was OK; so I gave it a try. It has become one of my favorite movies. It is a romantic comedy that you never see coming. I like movies with a twist and the director/producer pull it off. I had never heard of most of the actors in this film but they were all excellent. Margaret Cho is in this but her character plays a small part and not really that funny. Don't get me wrong; her part and acting are not bad. It just not a large part of the movie. But all in all a Great Film.
The acting and cinematography were both great.
Two thumbs up!
Sliding Doors (1998)
Charming
I liked this movie. I don't know why people are so critical of this movie. I've seen far worse. Gwyneth Paltrow is the main character so you know it can't be that bad. It's a story about fate and how things can change with a turn of fate. The acting and camera work were all good. I enjoyed the story and felt it made good time. Nothing was drawn out to long. All the scenes made sense. All in all it was a good story.
It is a romantic, comedy , drama and that is exactly what it delivers. If you don't like that genre then you won't like this film.
I didn't find it clich'e. Yes, it was somewhat predictable but If you've lived a little not to much can or will surprise you. It's a good film.
The Man with Rain in His Shoes (1998)
Endearing
I really enjoyed this movie. I didn't give it a 10 only because I have seen better but it was very good. I loved the plot. A man is given a second chance in his relationship but learns a valuable lesson from it. The acting and the camera work were great. I was quite surprised at how good this movie was. I didn't know what to expect as I chose it on a whim from Amazon Prime. I was familiar with some of the actors but was not sure if this would be a good movie as I had never heard of it.
But it was a delightful movie with a positive message. And it was done very well and professionally.
If you like romance movies your gonna love this one.
John Dies at the End (2012)
High Young Men Gonna Love this Movie
I love SciFi but this seemed to be a movie more about drugs and trippin. It was hard to follow. I understand that this is based on a book and maybe the Director/Producer(s) had a hard time translating the book into a movie. Now, I never read the book so I have nothing to compare it to but for me it was just a bunch of non-sense happening.
I understand it was suppose to be two losers who get a hold of a new drug that is on the street one uses it willingly the other by accident. Afterward, a bunch of strange stuff happens. Some of it seems to be alternate dimensions while other stuff possibly alien. Really, who knows. It was to random and drug induced for me to follow.
However, the acting and the cinematography were both good. Clearly, the movie was meant to appeal to young men; especially those that use drugs.
If you're a high young guy, you're gonna love this movie; everyone else, not so much.
The Cobbler (2014)
Pleasant Surprise
Had a slow start. I didn't think that I would like it. I almost didn't watch it. But it turned around and I was surprised at how much I did like it. The movie had a message. I guess that's good better than some of the trite that's out there. They tried to add a twist but you figure it out halfway through but it was still worth watching. There are some stellar actors in this and Adam Sandler gives a heart touching performance. This is a mature Sandler now and his acting shows it. I'm not saying he can't still be funny; I'm just saying he's gown up and it shows.
Great movie with a slow start.
Shinpi no hou (2012)
Religious Anime
It's obvious from the title that this would be religious; at least I knew it would be. That being said if you know that you are watching a religious movie it shouldn't be a surprise. If you go in thinking you are watching Spirited Away or Bleach or something like that then you are going to be disappointed. It does become a bit preachy towards the end. Clearly made by Happy Science a religious cult as their symbol is everywhere in the movie. And their beliefs are touted throughout. I'm just puzzled as to why they choose to make a cartoon to promote their beliefs. Maybe Anime is more important in Japan than they are in America. Anyway, it's not that bad for a religious cartoon.
U.F.O. (2012)
Not That Bad
This is a low budget Scifi movie. I don't know why everyone is being so hard on it. I am a Scifi buff and I found it to be entertaining. I think that is because I didn't expect a low budget "B" movie to be a multimillion dollar production. Yes, the start is slow and there are wholes in the script. I found the special effects to be cheesy / cheap and the music didn't match the movie. However, I didn't think the acting was all that bad. Academy award winning it is not. Yes, someone was trying way to hard to make it look like they had more money than they did. And missed the class that less can be more. But,as long as you watch it with the right mind set you won't be disappointed.
All in all for a low budget Scifi flick not that bad.
