Jibeuro ganeun gil (2013)
Emotionally destroying .. a masterpiece
An instant favorite of mine . "Way Back Home" is not only one of the saddest films I have ever seen , but one of the best films I have ever seen period. Jeon Do Yeon delivers an outstandingly incredible emotional powerhouse performance once again (Before with Secret Sunshine) and deserves an Oscar . The score is breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreaking , the cinematography is personal and brilliantly handled , and the story/screenplay will have you hooked within minutes of the opening title.
This is a film that will make you question how such a thing can happen , you will be incredibly frustrated and angry , you will find it hard to watch and you WILL cry ... LOTS .
It's a tough and emotionally destroying masterpiece that everyone needs to watch.
Haemoo (2014)
Well that was incredible
This film BLEW all my expectations out of the water , I knew nothing about it going in and enjoyed every single second of this incredible piece of Korean Cinema.
The intensity and tone of the film is one of the best things I can say about it , you could cut the tension with a knife and my hands were sweating the whole time ! The score and editing was impeccable , particularly the score being reminiscent of huge blockbusters (all though this is a lot more adult and brutal than an American blockbuster as usual with Korean Cinema). The cinematography was absolutely incredible , considering this took place on a boat , there was practically no shaky cam throughout the entire thing and instead the viewers are treated to some gorgeous visuals and beautiful smooth and steady shots. Only negative thing I have to say about Haemoo is the fact that a few times , it felt a little bit cliché with its character moments and plot decisions (very rarely) .
I could not believe my eyes when I saw the ratings online , they deserve to be much , MUCH higher.
Jeogui sagwa (2007)
South-Korean Short that feels incredibly fresh with moments of sadness , violence and humor
This is South-Korean Short Film feels so original with its premise and camera-work that you could easily watch another 20 minutes of it . In-fact , I did not want it to end !
On a hot summer day in a blind alley, a police officer and a laborer, both who have fallen behind from their units, are confronting each other. What they are wearing represents their status and makes them mutual enemies. Their situation becomes sad but comical as their tiresome day goes by. The interaction between these two people who are on a different footing inspires the viewers to rethink normative social structures.
The two characters you are left with are fantastic in a comical and humorous way , the score is very unique and memorable and the cinematography felt very fresh and good to the eyes.
