Jamie Marks Is Dead (2014)
I changed my mind
Originally I said I didn't have much to add, other than I thought this movie deserved a better rating. After viewing it again, I've changed my mind. Noah Silver did an amazing job, more so when you consider he grew up in France. While I'm sure French schools have outcasts, his portrayal of an American "reject" was gut wrenchingly spot on. This movie broke my heart, but I can't stop watching it. I've seen Noah in Down a Dark Hall, which was good, but not as visceral as Jamie. I'll be looking up more of his movies.
La chiesa (1989)
What a hot mess
It didn't help that I was watching a badly dubbed version, but sweet Hera that was a meandering cacophony of craziness. Or else drugs, or both. Made me think a little of the Keep, another 80's era gore fest that I'm sorry to say I wasted my time on.
Book of Blood (2009)
Thanks, Prime.
I like Clive Barker. I wasn't a huge fan of Hellraiser, but I've read a lot of his books and I think he's a genius. That said, I liked this movie. It was gruesome, disturbing, unconventional, and will haunt me for a while. Here comes the spoiler. ******* My only complaint is that some idiot at Prime decided to give away the ending by putting a still of Mary holding Simon's skin on the info page. Way to give it away.
Lost Child (2017)
Not really horror.
Ok, so this wasn't a horror movie, per se, but it was creepy as hell and very good. I'm from NE Oklahoma and the Ozarks are about an hour away. They captured the feeling and the attitudes perfectly. Anyone who's ever gone riding around on backroads in this part of the country will back me up, this movie is legit. The story and the acting are definitely deserving of more than 5 stars.
Carnival Row (2019)
Good so far
I've only seen the first episode, and am in the process of watching the second. I find this intriguing, challenging, and timely. Visually stunning, shockingly realistic, and superbly acted. Can't wait to see the rest. On a side note, I've seen several reviews complaining that the fae in the first episode didn't just fly away from the people shooting at them. Did they not see the barbed wire web in the trees with all the trapped fae in it? I hate when people don't pay attention and then complain about something that was done perfectly well.
Delirium (2018)
Haters weren't paying attention
People who gave this movie bad reviews were most likely playing on their phones instead of paying attention. This was a good movie, creepy as hell, and kept you guessing right up to the end. Topher Grace did an excellent job. My only issue was how ridiculously rich these people would have to have been to live in that house.
