Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Tied with Pluto Nash for worst movie EVER!!!!
Finally watched this on Disney+.
Thank goodness I didn't waste money at the theater. I'm actually having difficulty remembering the opening it was so boring...Oh yeah! T'Challa's death.
#1. How would (even an "organic printer") be able to print something and it come to life?!?!? If that were possible...why not just print out a new T'Challa with the disease extracted? They essentially are saying they are able to create life from a printer.
It was at this moment I knew this was going to be a terrible movie...I just didn't know to what extent.
#2. I now understand the big complaint of the lighting of the film. And well, the overall editing of this travesty. The quick cuts from on aspect to another as well as hard cuts from scene to scene was causing a nauseating effect.
#3. This movie is insulting to Meso-American people. And why were there blue and brown people? I understand Namor is a mutant (first time that word is used in Marvel Universe - I guess as a segue to bringing in the X-Men and Wolverine into the fold). But why did they make the villain, who is Meso-American take on a clearly Indian/Pakistani broken accent???
#4. Not to mention a direct blasphemous take on "Christ is Risen" when his people slaughter the Colonials. Surprised Mexican Catholics didn't get up and walk out of the movie spitting at the screen and clutching Rosary Beads (Don't worry, I'm Hispanic).
#5. So much recycling of things from so many other Marvel movies...most blatant that the FBI yells it when they storm the warehouse, "She's got an Iron Man suit!" And someone in design had to have been a Robotech fan because that suit looked so much like the Invid troopers.
#6. Why would Shuri even be feeling any of the attacks Namor was inflicting if the Black Panther suit is designed to absorb all kinetic energy applied to it and store it as potential energy? And isn't the suit built with vibranium...it should be impenetrable.
#7. What writer thought they knew what they were thinking when they used the word "Pervaporation" That is not the device or process the device performed. All they built we a ship-sized dehydrator...or an EVAPORATION device. I was embarrassed for all of Marvel that that actually passed the proofreading process.
#8. How did they "bug" the Wakandan beads? A AI driven device would have the wither all to constantly scan itself for "bugs", let alone the technology is supposedly far more advanced that the govt wouldn't even be able to "bug" the device.
#9. Who the hell builds a WAR SHIP with only ONE sonic device to do battle against underwater foes? And how did the device not kill that warrior from prolonged exposure when a sonic gun easily killed two Talokans that had less intensity.
#10. Wouldn't the "water bombs" have killed the whales and riders since they went off while they were in such close proximity when they detonated.
#11. How in the world was Okoye able to look out her new suit when the "eyes" no where close to matched up to her eye placement?!?!?! And why did it need the "dreads"? Why give your enemy a means to capture and stunt your movement from behind?
#12. Namor's breathing technique is NOT diffusion(that is the normal process for which oxygen and carbon dioxide is transferred either in a fish's gills or a humans lungs...Namor's process if more akin to breathing through an osmotic process since he does not have gills to breath underwater. These writers really did not do their homework...smh
#13. The whole premise that they would make the first Hispanic characters in Marvel completely war-driven is insulting. That they would also make Shuri act so infantile and spoiled, when all her other appearances she has been so jovial and technology based. Internal conflict could have been developed so much better.
#14. Why did her hand weapons become inoperable? GRIOT was still operational after the crash...weapons infused with vibranium, should have been as equally durable. With that said, the spear never should have been able to penetrate the Black Panther suit.
Overall...this seemed like such a hastily put together film in the wake of Chadwick's death, that they are lucky people went out of mourning for him. Because the movie does not pass muster by itself. I gave the movie two stars...one for Chadwick...and one because Martin Freeman saved the movie from being a movie that should have just been written off and destroyed so no-one would ever know how bad it was.
I can't wait to see how HISHE handles this movie, lol!
Lockwood & Co. (2023)
Easy to sit through the entire run of season 1
After flipping through all the Documentaries and realizing I'd seen most, i stumbled this series and decided to watch the first episode...Several hours later I'd discovered I'd burned through the whole Season.
It had a similar feel to "Torchwood - Miracle Day" in that something mysterious happened and now ghosts are very much a part of everyday life, and there are children involved...this time though, in that some are imbued with extra-psychic abilities to hunt ghosts.
There are homages to several films as well that were done quite tastefully, and sometimes humorously (if you miss the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" homage seek help.
Overall, the pace of the show is perfect to keep you entertained and invested in what happens. The overall arch villain for Season one is practically thrown in your face, although they try to confuse you with "Series" villains as well, and episodic villains too.
For some reason I also got a little bit of a Doctor Who, Matt Smith vibe regarding the "room up the stairs"(hope Who fans know what I am talking about)...it seems it will be a major plot point for Season 2 (let's hope Netflix doesn't cancel this show (as it has done with so many other shows that deserved renewal.
Definitely check it out...worth the bag of popcorn and soda(s) to watch the first season.
The Adam Project (2022)
First time jump never would have happened
A great heart-warming action comedy movie that only had one major flaw (which was the major plot piece of the film).
"Old Adam" takes "Young Adam" to the ship because it would not allow him to access due to "damage" it senses in his Bioscan. So how, if already injured, was he able to pilot the ship and make the first time jump at the beginning of the movie?
Drops mic...
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Just one question...
Pretty much everything good everyone else has written is spot on...except for one thing that ruined the movie at the end...and I'm surprised no one else has stopped to realize how stupid...moronic...just down-right idiotic it was, for a kid knowing his two best friends were about to forget he EVER EXISTED...
WHY DID HE SWING AWAY!?!?!?!?
I mean, what easier way to help these two remember than to stick around for the spell to complete (because they WILL remember that they helped Spiderman defeat all these bad guys, just not why...) to explain why they were now stuck on Liberty Island...they were the only two people that WERE NOT going to "disappear".
It would not have destroyed the spell. Dr. Strange as well, would have known Spiderman from Thanos; Peter, could have talked to his friends, explained what was going on, and then all four gone back to Sanctuorum and Peter then could have revealed himself to them there.
Just saying, Peter has been made out to be goofy, but not stupid. This ending was completely unnecessary and disappointing.
American Ripper (2017)
Interesting Premise...sometimes contrived
Somewhat educational docuseries...
I have seen many documentaries about HH Holmes, most contradic each other. I do recommend this as it takes an original investigative route.
Though the final conclusion was to be expected, it was interesting that they never entertained the idea that Holmes' accomplice Quinlan(sic) was the person the Batty Street lady saw, or that he carried on Holmes work after his death...being that Holmes' name and his alias were on the same manifest leaving England, it's enough to suggest they were both there.
Perhaps that could have been the avenue to investigate had there been a second season. He...or Robert Lattimer(sic). Two accomplices that survived their serial killer "Boss".
Halloween Kills (2021)
I've seen tiktoks with better plot...Spoilers!
Why does Hollywood always think people attack one at a time? And why didn't they just shoot M. M. in the head while he was down on the ground and then decapitate him...THEN! AND ONLY THEN would it be cool to have him get up, put his head back on and THEN Slaughter everyone...
The kills were straight out of D movie quality. They may have had A-movie SFX, but damn it looked so Highschool, I almost wanted to turn the movie off 10mins in.
I sure hope Jamie Lee got bank to be in this, because it stunk!
If they just have Laurie and Michael sit a table and play quarters for two hours for "Halloween Ends"...that's still a better movie than this.
Unhinged (2020)
You never stop rooting for the bad guy...is that wrong????
A Prius is really gonna flip a minivan?
Finally sat down on a hungover morning and watched this. The opening scene basically establishes that Tom Cooper is "unhinged".
What the movie fails over and over to do...is to create any sympathy for the female main character. She has zero redeeming character values. So much so, you kinda hoped that car at the end of the movie would have t-boned her. Would have been a more fitting end than, "Good Choice".
It seems to be the Hoolywood trope to have idiotic women in lead roles of late...and then to expect the audience to believe they redeem themselves at the end, and can survive having their head slammed into the side of a minivan, thrown against furniture and literally kicked in the head several times...only to get up, and have the strength to stab a pair of scissors through Russel Crowe's eye.
Of course Crowe had to die...but it should have been how he wanted, "suicide by cop". The ending we got we just so disappointing.
The Big Bang Theory: The Stockholm Syndrome (2019)
Stopped after season 7...remember why...
Stopped watching after season 7 because it all just became so formulaic...the same terrible (and stereotypical) jokes, Sheldon still hadn't realized he's nothing more than a huge annoyance that falls back on Asbergers for his behavior. And the rest of the cast being as 1-dimensional as possible.
Thought I'd check out the finale to see if there had been any major changes to warrant going back to watch the 5 seasons I had missed...NOPE!
To make the finale the moment Sheldon finally acknowledges how big an idiot he's been, seems very lackadaisical, to say the least.
As many others pointed out, throwing in that Leonard gets his wish of Penny getting pregnant...again, such lazy writing...and a bit sexist really.
A lot of people will disagree with this review (especially those that are "avid" fans), don't really care. After 12 years...after 3 tops...if a friend was still a pain in the rear (regardless of Asbergers or whatever), that person just never making an effort to change; they would not be a friend anymore...even the movie "Mercury Rising", the autistic kid evolved and showed Bruce Willis he cared and trusted him...why was Sheldon so incapable of this for 12 seasons...and for that matter why does "Young Sheldon" show more emotional maturity and social interaction ability than this one? Consistency just does not exist.
In conclusion, I found Seinfeld's finale to be a better, more rounded conclusion to a series than this episode...and thats saying a lot.
Addendum: a little racist and insensitive that it ends with Raj never finding someone special, or getting married don't you think???
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
"Amazing Stories" meets Rod Serling...meets Looney Tunes...
At 84 minutes...I guess a lot of people were expecting "Gone with the Wind".
This is not that kind of movie. From the onset, the pace stays roughly constant...and after the humorous cartoon intro, it slips into a kind of "The Ring" vibe...where things just seem slightly off. That's how it felt to me...others may describe it differently...
The acting and tone of the movie are spot on for the era...maybe that's why some people have complained...it was a "man's world" in the air during the war...so how they responded to "her" presence, was accurate.
I wasn't expecting Jurassic Park level CGI...but what was done, was applaudable. Considering the trailer, I have to say overall, I enjoyed this movie...it did not disappoint...even the Looney Tunes blowback scene that was in the trailer...when watched in the context of the full scene, it makes perfect...ridiculous, and funny sense.
Don't take this movie for anything but what it is...a war movie that doesn't bore you with history, or politics...it's one moment...one sitiation...and you getting to see how the craziness unfolds.
For what it is...it worked for me perfectly
