Them (2021)
There's something wrong with a movie has no critics' reviews
There are some 40 reviews by non-professional viewers. Some claim that they include spoilers, and some claim that they have found out what the movie is about. Not any of these assertions are true, probably because there is no depth to the movie
It's true that I only watched 1/3 of the movie while sorting laundry. I am very easy in my flick demands while sorting laundry and while ironing. Understanding the language is necessary, and my tolerance for a lousy movie is really high. (However, super heroes don't exist in my world, although I love fairy tales.)
But this movie - oh, my! No plot, no characters and no back story. The worst movie I saw since before COVID, and that's saying a lot.
Frailty (2001)
Prime Video Ruined It
This is an excellent thriller and I enjoyed it. I would've enjoyed it better, though, if Amazon's cast listand the x-ray throughout the movie, usually great her in reminding us who's who, spoils half the mystery in the movie by telling us that Matthew McConaughey is Adam, the young brother and not the older one, as he claims. So while this review contains spoilers, your listing of the movie is even worse in this respect.
Home Before Dark (1958)
Strong Performances, Shallow Plot
Jean Simmons is luminous, despite attempts to dowdify her. All other actors are strong. This is in spite of the silly plot. Never understood why Charlotte fell in love with her future husband, why she continued to love him later, why he didn't divorce her and marry Joan (since he does not seem to be after her money). Did someone try to drug her? Did she become better after she stopped drinking the supposedly doctored drinks? Was there a liaison between the husband and Joan? Was the mother malicious or just a loud, insensitive woman? Most of all - why is it that Hollywood movies always have a nice, sensitive guy waiting in the wings for the mistreated, at-risk heroine in its suspense movies? (See Gaslight, Midnight Lace, this movie, and many others.)
