India from Above (2020)
A distortion of the truth about India
Visually interesting and excellent photography in line with other programs in this series. If it is just geographical information you are interested in then it's good but it whitewashes the truth about the dreadful bias and awful treatment poor citizens in India are subject to and have been throughout history.
OK the world has been and still is a cruel place for many but I dias treatment of the lowest Hindu classes is an international disgrace and should be subject to worldwide sanction.
Especially damming in this film is the pretence that all Hindus can take part in the huge festivals that feature in this program.... No many cannot and extreme bias among higher ranking Hindus delays reform.
Remake the film with more balanced description of reality and use it a a vehicle for reform rather than propaganda.
Gods of Egypt (2016)
Brilliant special effects an Great storyline
I was suprised how good the story was in this film that I expected to be, like most films of this type, all around CGI. The story was coherent and entertaining with a feelgood ending. I am guessing from some of the reviews that this is not what some viewers are looking for but I tend now to go for films that have not so good reviews... They often turn out great.
Since a lot more words are needed in this review platform I guess I will have to include some spoilers : basically it's a good vs evil story where. **** prevails, lots of love between two mortals who are up against the multiple Egyptian gods. As I said, it's unusual for these epics to actually have a storyline, so really enjoyed it. Great for kids too.
Dirty Rotten Scammers (2022)
They don't give clear advice
Instead of giving a clear message..never respond to any cold call, Email or text they go on about being careful, take 5.etc etc.. They make it too complicated.

Deceived by My Mother-In-Law (2021)
Implausible, needs rewriting
The story started out OK and kept watching in the hope the story would pan out and develop into a worthwhile film. However fairly early on there were some silly developments...a pointless murder of the hired stalker for the sake of a small payoff, presumably the body was buried in the garden?
Then the police officer killed but no follow up erc etc. However the implausible bit beyond measure was the revelation that the perpetrators were well known to the police but no one bothered to look for them and the next episode continued.
It's a pity because it coukd have been good if they had hired another writer to iron out the implausible bits.
Griff's Canadian Adventure (2022)
Another TV program about the presenter
I was hoping to see a documentary about beautiful Canada but most of the best was bypassed in favour of mariuana shops, yoga sessions and cliff climbing. Most of the gest features of Vancouver were ignored and the most interesting first nation centres not even mentioned.
As with many of these programs they skip over a country with the presenter as the main subject. I've travelled across Canada and seen some spectacular things. This series misses most of them and is very disappointing.
Maybe we could have a series with experts like the UK Coast programs showing the country's culture, history and features rather than the presenters face.
The Great Killer Smog (2022)
Interesting but very repetitive
I lived in London in 1952...... It was vet bad but it was common to have to wear a mask which was yellow after use.
This program is interesting but so repetitive...... do they have to keep saying the same thing dozens of times..
.... This program could have been one episode of half the time.
The buildings in London were coated in soot and the reason was that there was no alternative to heat your house at the time. Now if course there are even more people dying of pollution in London because of diesel, nitrogen oxides. Etc etc.
And what's all this about the smog affecting working class areas?.. So the smog didn't get to Chelsea?
The Americas with Simon Reeve (2019)
Totally biased
All about Simon Reeves full stop. Like many of these so called factual programmrs it is just a vehicle for Simon Reeves to show his face as often as possible. Just count how much of the footage has his face on camera..... Pretty well continuous.
His campaign is 99 percent negative and not useful in any way and is repetitive to the point of boredom.
Another irritating point is that he misses much of the best parts of the areas he visits scooting onto his next destination and then spending a huge amount of showing footage of drug issues that we all know are a worldwide issue but made to look uniquely Canadian
Rubbish.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
CGI amazing but story slow and unconvincing
The LOTR trilogy was outstanding and gripping from start to finish but this is slow and not really in the same league.
Amazed that they made out the Elves following Galadriel were cowards and disloyal, the characters were without character and although the storyline will probably develop, it lacks the force of the original story.
The CGI is amazing but that does not make up for a weak storyline. Similar to the Star Wars follow ups CGI takes over as the key element when we all know that this did workcompared to the originals.
Looks to me as though this is going to be a soap but I am prepared to continue with the series and hope to be able to give it five stars if it fulfills the expectations if the optimistic reviewers.
Parada serc (2022)
Lovely traditional romantic story
Unlike many new films that try to be "modern" this is a calm, well acted, gentle romance with the lovely setting in Warsaw. Funny and with lots of contrasting characters it was a pleasure to watch a film that wasn't full of swearing and explicit scenes, just a calm and heart rending story.
The Call of the Wild (2020)
Amazing acting by the dogs
Don't understand how they managed to train the dogs to act their parts, especially their facial expressions and the way they swam under water and rescued people. Almost as though they were 'anim' ations.
Da Kath & Kim Code (2005)
Really crazy comedy.... Typical Australian humour
Love the slapstick acting and play on words that are easy to miss if you blink for a second. Great actors and fast moving themes that make you giggle from start to finish....
.. One of my favorites is saying that rearranged letters of a word are a mammagram 😁
Red Notice (2021)
Really great slapstick comedy
Loved the funny scenes including the collapsing scaffolding, missiles flying through helicopter doors, great looking girl karatying the two main guys,... and anyone else she didn't like...the list is endless. Especially loved Ed Sheeran... Enjoy👍
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
Glad I only spent 20p on the Dvd!
Boring... Fell asleep and woke up to see the same repetitive scene.. No real storyline, no conclusion.
It won an Oscar? Says it all.. Must have been because of the cast only.
There's Something About Mary (1998)
Funny but full of f** f** f**
Maybe it's the thing to not be able to say anything without swearing for no reason but I think it spoils the film. Good story and funny antics make it worth watching but it would be good for a younger audience if it were edited.
The English Patient (1996)
Great settings but story rambling and illogical
Tried hard to make sense of this but it is without doubt the most overrated film I have ever watched. Lots of emotion and beautiful music creates a romantic and sometimes dramatic atmosphere but the story is fragmented and illogical.
Fiennes: Return to the Nile (2019)
Very disappointing
Having travelled myself from Alexandria to Abu Simbel I was hoping to have my memories rekindled. However this was just an ego trip with a lot of silly scenes for example getting themselves deliberately, stuck in a sand dune and messing about with spiders and snakes. No real description or scenes describing the journey.
The Royal (2003)
Went downhill slowly.. Needed to end
Good start when linked to Heartbeat but ran out of ideas and needed to end. Pity.. Could have been saved by good writer.
Perhaps they should have listened to the viewers and finished the series sooner rather than later.
Martin Clunes: Islands of the Pacific (2022)
Excellent photography but too much Clunes
Why is the camera constantly on Martin Clunes.... OK occasionally but the programmes seem to be about him rather than the Galapagos. Also the factual detail is lacking and although it's not a scientific study it seems to be focused on fairly superficial entertainment rather than being informative.
The Last Bus (2021)
Dreadful
Depressing, no real storyline or moral message. Makes most people to be totally oblivious to the old man's situation and lacking any humanity..
Zero stars.
The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015)
Amazing.. Beautifully acted.
I did not look away for one second during this amazing film. The brilliance of this man and others like him, raises questions of religion and how these chosen people lead humanity forward in our understanding of this incredible universe.
Dalgliesh (2021)
Mind numbingly corny and unrealistic
I realise it's only a pseudo 70s TV show but having just two police officers on a murder case and them virtually living in the hospital, taking witness statements without writing anything... Sifting through evidence in a pub.. suspects cross examined with no representation etc etc..
OK 50 Years ago but not now.
Pompeii's Final Hours: New Evidence (2018)
Fascinating story but very repetitive
Really interesting account of the destruction following the eruption and the story was focused on several bodies found in the Ash. The only criticism was that the same points were made so many times that it became a little irritating.
Border Security: Australia's Front Line (2004)
Seem to have a grudge against New Zealanders
Very uneven treatment of visitors. One NZ couple forgot to dump an apple or something, given to them by the airline for lunch and were fined the same as others bringing in undeclared suitcases full of banned food.
Would put me off visiting if this was a true reflection of border rules... Maybe these are exceptions selected just for the programme.
Life with Dog (2018)
Not really a dog movie
Very repetitive, slow and laborious. Hoped the dog would be an inspiration as the title suggests but it just went on and on about the same issues. Mind numbingly depressing. I should have seen it right to the end but gave up after 60 minutes.
The Only Way Is Essex (2010)
Shallow
One of the worse programs on TV.. Watched it once...that was it. Certainly not representative of any people in Essex that I know.
