Parenthood (2010)
Will Sorely Miss This Show
Parenthood quickly became my favorite show on TV almost from its debut. Now it just may be my favorite show of all time, and considering my age and how long I've been watching television, that's saying a lot! Consequently I am saddened to hear that this is the farewell season. We need more shows of this caliber.I think the thing that makes Parenthood so great is that it is so real. The hardships, conflicts, problems and joys of parenthood are those experienced by nearly every family to one extent or another. The fact that this sort of reality can come across as superb entertainment is a great tribute to the producers, writers, and actors. Particularly the latter: there's no character in the show you can't love. (Though my wife has issues with Max.) My favorite is Craig T. Nelson as Zeek. I really liked him as Coach, even more so as Zeek. And what kid wouldn't want a Dad like Adam (Peter Krause)! Finally, hats off to NBC for keeping the show going this long. I've seen too many high-quality shows canceled in the past. For example, I'll never forgive Fox for canceling Boston Public right in the middle of the season!
Red Band Society (2014)
Wonderful surprise!
My wife recorded this show, much like she always does for any new show appearing in the fall lineup. I'll admit to being a little dubious about it, but decided to give it a shot. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The premise is certainly different from most other TV series. The writing is outstanding and the characters are endearing. I always enjoy seeing people from diverse backgrounds bonding with each other. If I were to liken this show to anything else I've seen I'd have to call it "Breakfast Club in a Hospital." I will certainly continue watching Red Band Society and hope it remains as good, if not better, than it started out. Congratulations Fox, you've got a winner here!
