Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Well we finished it :/
What happened? I couldn't wait for the movie to be over, and it doesn't take much for me to enjoy terminator movies and anything similar. And they don't have to make complete sense either. Lol I watch to be entertained. I'm not sure if it was just poorly written, but even Connor and Arnie couldnt save this one. Neither Dani nor Grace were good actresses OR just weren't good for the parts, but hey, "we" needed women to play the role.... Luna was decent as the bad "guy". Of course they have to throw a little politics in and spend some time at the border. Starts out with subtitles (necessary if you don't speak much Spanish.), and they were needed longer than I'd like. Yep, they speak Spanish in Mexico, we realize that. :/ I beefed up on mine when I visited a few years back, just like I practiced my French before going to Paris.
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Loved it !
I like a variety of movies, but my favs are ones where I can't figure out where it's going. This movie intrigued me!! Some of the acting is over the top, and I wasn't CRAZY about the ending, but not enough to keep me from liking it in the end. If you keep up with where things are headed in the world, this will surely make you think. I guess some will "understand" more about the premise for the movie, so I'm wondering if those are the "low raters". (To explain this, it might give too much away and you need to watch without knowing too much). If you think too much about IF it could happen when watching movies, you may not enjoy. This was a different role for Pine, or at least of those I've seen, so I enjoyed his character.
The Ledge (2011)
Horrible!! (Possible spoilers)
Even before we got to the ending, my husband and I agreed that this movie was going into the trash when we were done. I've learned just to stop watching movies when I feel that way, but we wanted to "see the ending". I pulled this movie out of my dads group thinking it was a different "ledge " movie that I'd seen before. Not sure if description gave any idea of the premise for the movie, but there was so much "religious" conversation intertwined, it was obvious that the writer is a God hater. AND the bad guy is the believer OF COURSE. I'm also tired of Hollywood putting as much sex as they can into movies without having to "mark"nudity under parental controls. You CAN make good movies without it!
La strada (1954)
HORRIBLY DEPRESSING!!! Don't waste your time
I gave this 2 stars only for the performances, but this movie is awful. I LOVE most all old movies from the 1930s to the 50s, but this was the exception. From the first scene, it was depressing. I started to turn it off, but kept watching thinking it would get better. IT DOESN'T. At some point, you think they are perhaps trying to show that everyone has a purpose. If that was the point, you can get that elsewhere in a much more positive way. I thought at the very end that they might perhaps halfway save this with a different ending, which would have helped A LITTLE. BUT NOPE. I'd say it was a waste of time, but it was worse than that...an AWFUL way to spend your time. Wish I could have my two hours back! DEEEE-PRESSING big time.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
Why did they ruin seasons 1&2 with 3/4????
I was so intrigued by this series, and couldn't stop watching. The first TWO seasons are proof that they don't need sex scenes to keep you watching. Well, they decided to ruin that in season 3. You sit and ask yourself what the heck changed. (notice release date and you realize their "NEED" to include same sex scenes, yes more than one. Please...) Then comes season 4, with barely a mention of the Jews, but the writers thought we need some political propaganda, so a whole new group of actors are added in. (This is after killing off main characters from other seasons). Some of us choose to watch shows that get our minds OFF of what's happening in our country. I skipped through quite a few of those political "speeches". Some of the actors in this are amazing in my opinion, and they have you thinking about the horrific things that the Jews and others suffered at the hand of Hitler and the socialist party. It makes you realize how quickly things could change now. Be sure and be on your toes to keep up with who turns on who next lol. I'm not sure who thought that was a good ending. :-/. Is there no one to watch and advise on seasons etc? They should have re-written seasons 3 &4 even if we had to wait longer to watch! My review based on just first 2 seasons would have been 8/9....
Making the Cut (2020)
Glad to see Tim again plus fashion!
I watched all of Project Runway seasons as well as The All Star ones until about a year or so ago even though Heidi and Tim were gone. (I still loved the runway part of the show. When I discovered that Anthony Ryan had a shop in San Antonio, I just HAD to go! Lol )
Slowly over the years, it was more about showing just how politically correct they could be vs the designs.... and I quit watching. (I'd wanted to see Christian Soriano too, since I'd really liked him when he was on).
Decided to give it a try again. Glad I did, as this appears to be more about designing again. (Oh And travel. Lol) although I like both Heidi and Tim, their little scenes in between seemed strange, and made me wonder if she's as superficial as she appears in this those. Like I said it was odd. A little too much music during certain times during show though and I found myself having to turn volume up and down constantly. I've never thought about Naomi Campbell much, but after seeing her on here, don't think I care for her. Just rude and stuck on herself. I hope they bring back another season. I'll continue to watch as long as they don't do like they did on PR. I love fashion and design, and watching these guys makes you think you can do it yourself! Lol. You may even buy a sewing machine too. Ha!
Homecoming (2018)
Good - until the end....
If you like fast paced action movies, just go ahead and skip this one. I myself like this kind of show as long as the acting is well done. I thought Julia was great in this, as well as Stephan James. I binged watch the 2 seasons in two days. The storyline was intriguing, although I wasn't crazy about the ending of season 1, so I was happy to see that there was a season 2. What follows I guess might say is possible spoilers or a little too much if you haven't watched, but the only consistent character between seasons is James. I'd hoped to see Julia appear again. If they'd brought her back in at least at the end of the second season even for a minute, the show would have been much better. The ending was a little disappointing. Some had commented on "Alex's " acting. Thought she was fine myself, and you find yourself initially feeling sorry at first only to want her "to get hers" in the end.... worth the watch to me even with the ending.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Worth seeing!!
My daughter knew I'd want to see this movie, since I Love suspense and creature films! It's unusual since there's not much "noise" in the theatre like you are accustomed to. (That's a hint too, don't bring babies into this movie, as it's quiet.) Realized afterward that the main male character is also the director after I commented on certain parts that impressed me. Not your typical creature movie, but I loved it and will be watching it again!
Absentia (2017)
AWESOME!!!!!!!
I CANNOT comprehend a low review for this show. They either watch other types of shows OR they need to pick apart every little detail of a show/movie.(If you want true crime go watch Forensic Files.). I watched this because my daughter thought I might like it. Reason I went to Amazon movies for the first time. I'm always up for a good thriller/suspense. This kept me on the edge of my seat and I binged watched in a couple of days!! Just when you think you have it figured out, you see you don't. Acting in my opinion was superb. BEST show/movie that I've seen in forever!!! If you want your typical dribble that's the majority of TV now a days, skip this. If you want something different, time to WATCH! Hope there's a season two!
The Star (2017)
Grand kids loved it!
I saw a preview of this on utube and immediately made sure my grand babies went to see it. I guess I'll use the same word as previous reviewer who thought it was INDOCTRINATION. Yep, I guess I've wanted my kids/gk to be indoctrinated to Christmas being about Jesus. It's hard "fitting it in" with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Was proud to be there with ALL 5 of them (ages 4-7) Animation was OK, not like Disney of course, but it kept the kids attention. It has some funny parts. It's all from the perspective of the animals, and it takes a while to get to where the star is leading. I hope the kids got it with the typical noise in a movie for children. But either way, I'm glad they can see a movie that tells the story of Jesus at Christmas time. Better than most of what is offered to them on TV and theatre these days!!
U.F.O. (2012)
Horrible
I wish I could give this movie a zero AND wish I'd checked out the reviews prior to renting! Did it come out on the big screen? I hope people didn't pay THAT much! Rented from red box, and the thought crossed my mind afterward that it should be illegal for some movies to be in there TO RENT! LOL. If an alien movie comes out, I have to look. Love them! Probably my favorite kind of film. But not this one... First of all, the acting is horrendous!! I actually laughed at one death scene because it was THAT bad. We ended up fast forwarding through parts to "get somewhere" and after watching the last few scenes, we just looked at each other in amazement. As in WHAT??!! Before we had even finished it, I checked reviews on IMDb out of curiosity, and got more entertainment from reading those, than I did from this sorry movie!!
White House Down (2013)
Loved this movie!
I honestly can't understand the negative reviews on this movie!! It came out around the same time as Olympus Has Fallen, and I liked that movie as well. I'm not sure if people just want everything in a movie to be "plausible", but I find that hard to believe with all the movies that come out now-a-days. However, I don't want to finish a movie, and say, "uh?" either. I generally don't go for a slow moving drama, but for action, thriller, sci-fi, so perhaps action isn't some reviewers cup of tea. Now, am I saying that Tatum's acting was wonderful? No. Love the role his daughter plays. And thought Fox was great!! It doesn't take long for the excitement to begin, and it kept me on the edge of my seat! I've discovered that I often disagree with "stars" given to a movie while watching on cable too. Maybe this movie didn't have enough foul language or sex scenes to satisfy some, not quite sure, but I'm beginning to believe that's what people want in this day and age.
The Identical (2014)
Great movie!
I typically go for a sci-fi or thriller movie, but this was a good drama!!! Add a little music, and it made it even better. I first heard of this movie on the Huckabee show, and he had Ray Liotta on discussing it. The day we were going to go, I checked IMDb just to see what reviews it had. At first view, I thought it might not be good, until I started READING the reviews. So glad that we gave it a shot!! My husband, who usually falls asleep if he gets still past 8pm actually stayed awake for this movie, and we went to the 10pm showing!! Ray Liotta surprised me in this kind of role. At this point, I've learned to just ignore the "critic" reviews!! I'm not sure if I would necessarily call it an inspirational film, but it does have a good message. Think quite a few people will be able to relate.
