Beau Is Afraid (2023)
Directorial masterpiece
The 7/10 is because it did get a bit tiring and I was expecting something more intense from the plot. But the unexpected surrealism of the film was perfectly crafted and Ari aster's directorial view was phenomenal. Ari Aster went to great lengths in order to plant details that foreshadowed what was happening or what would happen, something that made us constantly searching for the underlying clues with excitement. Each part had a different aesthetic and a different feeling for the viewer and there were excellent moment switching from drama to comedy. The possessive mother-son relationship theme was perfectly expressed through the surreal images and happening, without covering the anger and misery and with also perfectly portraying the twisted versions of love.
Animal (2023)
Zero stars would be too many.
Poor direction, zero concept, untalented actors. Literally nothing happens. And it's not like you watch a directorial masterpiece. The characters are not developed at all. There is the usual sex scenes that serve no purpose, some character has a generic sad background, the protagonist is blue without just because, nothing is really dramatic, endless small scenes that serve nothing else than making this film longer than it should be. As usual, the Greek privileged lobby that pretends to make art, gave kudos to one another and their desperately pretentious viewers thought they saw something interesting just so they can fit. Enough.
The Neon Demon (2016)
Eye candy and nothing else
This movie is aesthetically pleasing to the eye but there is absolutely no reason to watch it.
Boring. No meaning. No acting. Nothing. NOTHING. It would be better as a lady Gaga video clip.
It's better if you just search for photos of the movie and keep them as wallpapers on your computer.
The Greasy Strangler (2016)
Let it happen to you
Not for everyone. Let everything happen. Do not attempt to find meaning. Flow with the film.
If you find yourself feeling uncomfortable yet loving it, good luck with your self.
The OA (2016)
I don't cry. I cried. Please bring it back!
This is so beautiful. You have to experience it. It touches you in amazing ways.
The Mist (2017)
Pointless, waste of writing.
I only continued watching it because I wanted to see where it's going. It goes nowhere.
It ends like it's in the middle of everything, with absolutely no resolution. I can bare no resolution when there is a point to it. There isn't any point.
It ends with nothing happening, even though we are supposedly given a way for this to end.
It leaves us with endless questions.
Why even bother having all the Jonah military mystery if not for things to be answered. Including all these "you'll find out" nonsense.
Everything goes wrong and they have nothing figured out.
I gave it 3 stars because it kinda succeeds in portraying desperation and how humans change in critical situations. Other than that, nothing.
I couldn't get close to any character. I hated them all. Just waiting for the mist to come for them. Maybe not jay who I think he was the biggest victim there and an idiot for rescuing stupid Alex. Kevin is also a likeable fool.
More than anyone I think I hated the mother.
Again, every action from the characters was pointless.
Just POINTLESS!
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
Uhhmmmm..... what????
I was sure this was going to be a bad movie, but at the beginning it got me. I thought, hmmm, the direction is not so bad, it seems different, maybe this will not be the typical screamer. And it wasn't. It was far worse.
I think the director desperately tried to deliver something he thought was art. It was not.
Everything went on for ages. The protagonist kept doing things really reaaaaaaaly slow, oh my God slow!! I mean, who takes one minute to grab a piece of paper that is 10cm away???
Except for two times, literally nothing was going on. Nothing.
Funny thing is, that it actually contain some realism (well, realism in case you believe in ghosts) because it depicted a ghost that is not interested in being the boogeyman, turning lights on and off, opening cupboards, creating all sorts of stupid inconveniences. I mean, if ghosts were real, why would they do that? This ghost mostly didn't. She just wanted to share her story I guess. And the nurse died because she was scared to death, which is pretty logical if you ask me.
We never learn why the ghost had been killed. Which was a bummer. At least let us know why the hell all this happened. But no, because it's "art".
It was a bullshit movie.
