Echo 3 (2022)
Would give no stars if you could
Where to start!!!! First episode was so bad I nearly turned it off. Now I wish I had of listened to my gut instead of wasting time following through to the end. The lead actress was the most dislikable character I have ever seen on screen. The ending just topped it off and made the entire show seem pointless. The actress played this role so poorly and was so miscast, that alone was enough to ruin the entire show. She was so all over the place in her performance, trying so different approaches to this character that it became utterly confusing. One minute the cocky confident type, the next the damsel in distress, then a Schizophrenic all the way through to a heartless cold selfish, ungrateful sociopath.
Any hope you have for a good story is shattered by the worst ending I can think of.
Lead actor (husband) really grew on me. At first very unbelievable as a high level operator, but by the end won me over with great acting and clearly a lot of time put into his weapons drills.
Costar (brother) was solid from start to finish and the only thing that kept me even slightly engaged.
The editing/direction was so poor I can't believe this was ever signed off. The pacing drags to the point of just tormenting.
Sub plot with the mum coming over to waste a bad guy in the middle of all this is borderline insulting. Just so ridiculously unbelievable and totally unnecessary and makes a joke of the whole program. What on earth were you thinking???
The female reporter was another annoying character with outrageous bouts of misplaced emotion and over acting.
The subplot of him cheating after just taking a bullet trying to save his wife was totally jarring and utterly stupid. Another example of awful writing and poor directing. The audience was on side and rooting for the hero, then you immediately undermine the whole purpose of his motivation. Why???
Only good thing to say about this is the weapons drills are slick and the platforms are well put together. The advisor on this did a great job.
To summarise, don't waste your time on this garbage.
Tenet (2020)
Over complicated and badly cast
I just watched it. Very disappointed, to the point I almost walked out. Didn't think Nolan could make a bad film but this was rubbish. Complicated storyline that wasn't interesting enough for me to want to watch it again to try and understand. It felt like half a film stitched together in the wrong order. Inception was a masterpiece of originality, incredible cast, great story and one you'd need to watch a couple of times to fully appreciate its mastery. This definitely fell well short of that. Seems to be the trend at the moment for trying to over complicate film making and focus on being too clever and original rather than concentrating on just good story telling. Didn't have a clue what was going on half the time throughout this film which just made it boring and uninteresting. The sound seemed a little off too but maybe it was just some of the complexity of the dialogue and fast delivery that made it hard to keep up? It seemed like there was a lot of exposition to try and explain the film but it was so poorly timed or delivered, that it didn't allow you to really grasp the concept well enough to buy into the story. Thought it was really badly cast too. Didn't buy the lead guy for a second and although Robert pattinson was okay, he definitely wasn't up to the standard of a normal Nolan movie. The actor playing the soldier was possibly the worst out of the bunch. Total cheese ball and very unconvincing, I thought he was an extra who'd been given a couple of lines until he actually developed into a relatively big character. Action was well shot as you'd expect which was in fact the only reason I stayed until the end. Definitely wouldn't recommend it but like people have said, it is a spectacle.
Serial Killer with Piers Morgan (2017)
Exactly how not to make a documentary!!
This is one of the worst programmes I have seen. Netflix really should review having this as part of their content. This is such a frustrating watch that you end up actually sympathising with the men convicted. It makes you question their guilt because piers seems to have no legitimate information to base a structured interview to help gain some further understanding into the minds of these people and their crimes. He is just purely antagonistic with leading questions that serve no purpose. He appears to only try and badger the interviewee's in an attempt to goad some form of reaction from them to suit his agenda as he seems to have no evidence based argument. Completely one sided and in true piers form, he just interrupts them, talks over them and tries to twist everything they say in some bizarre way to try and corner them into saying something incriminating. Completely narcissistic and a very irritating watch.
Unbelievable (2019)
Good concept, terrible acting!
I couldn't tell if it was just badly scripted or badly acted out. The casting director in this did a terrible job. The performances were so wooden and unbelievable, I think I know how they came up with the title. The concept however was really great, the first episode was by far the best as it surrounded the actress who had the most talent. The supporting characters were also very good and the story had me hooked. Unfortunately, each episode got decidedly worse and the acting in my opinion was so bad, it totally took me out of the story completely. The female cops were trying so hard to play strong, badass characters, that it just became annoying and unrealistic with over the top outbursts and episodes of over the top rudeness. The large girl in the second episode looked like it was her first ever acting job. A supposed victim of rape, who just couldn't help but keep smiling inappropriately when recounting this harrowing event, which became more than irritating. Overall very disappointing, with a better cast, more realistic script and a better director, this might have been a little more 'believable'.
The Take Down (2017)
Great independent action film
Absolutely loved this great British independent action film. The cinematography was really impressive and the actions scenes extremely well put together. I thought the story was gripping and interesting which is refreshing for a film of this genre. Hats off to the director and the production team for executing a really awesome action movie that definitely had the feel of the more recent Bond movies and Bourne films.
