Hemisphere (2023)
This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Exciting Sci Fi thriller with a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the plot. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Hemisphere is a good example of how independent filmmakers can use a creative approach to produce futuristic sets on a low budget. The lighting and visual effects also help to create an atmosphere of a space station and transport us into our not too remote future - the year 2047.
It's always inspiring to see strong female characters in sci-fi films and Hemisphere is no exception to this rule.
The two leads, Sandra and Phoebe, played by very talented actresses Paige Rion and Julie Kashmanian deliver a powerful performance and keep us guessing the outcome of their adventure until the very end.
Suffrage (2023)
It takes your full attention and doesn't allow for a moment of boredom.
The story develops with a speed of lightning. I recommend watching this movie twice in order to enjoy every detail in the plot.
The film raises important political and social issues but wraps them up in a light-hearted comedy, so it never gets preachy. Moreover, the movie allows us to get a glimpse into the colorit of Southern Californian life.
Suffrage is a sequel to the 2021 movie Natasha Hall. This time a private investigator, Natasha Hall, is trying to solve the murder of the mother of one of Hollywood's most famous actresses, Rebecca Lyone.
Cat Black who plays Natasha Hall is wonderful and charismatic, and I think she can play absolutely anything: from character comedy to psychological drama.
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater (2020)
Luck always favors the brave and adventurous.
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater is an action, drama and a comedy - all-in-one. Spiraling around the traditional money vs decency dilemma, the film however has a very intriguing plot and reveals a lot of very dark secrets in the lives of the characters. I liked that the tense dramatic moments were often finished up with sarcasm and humor, saving the film from going too far into the dark end.
I learned that she also wrote the screenplay, edited and co-produced this movie which is very impressive.
I also enjoyed the voiceover narration that gave us a glimpse into Ava Moriarty's soul and added a lot of depth to this character.
Static Codes (2023)
The story of loss and pain wrapped in a light-hearted comedy.
The story of loss and pain wrapped in a light-hearted comedy.
I am not a believer in extraterrestrial visitors, but this story happens to be much deeper than your regular alien-encounters movie. I think the thematic thread that weaves through this film has nothing to do with the supernatural. Instead it takes us on a journey of a man who is suffering from loss of his wife, loneliness and disability. He tries to cope best he can and to find support among those who can understand his pain. However, this film also has a fair amount of light-hearted humor. I was pleasantly surprised to see Taryn Manning from 'Orange in the New Black' in this film.
Broken City (2023)
Strong, psychological thriller!
Strong, psychological thriller with totally unexpected twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Emotional and scarry. You'll never guess what's coming up next. And the ending gave me chills. I loved the work of Ria Gill, Jonathon M. Smith, Ronnie Angel, and the whole cast were also wonderful. Throughout the movie I caught myself guessing and trying to predict what was going to happen next, and to my surprise I was constantly wrong. I could never anticipate the next twist in the development of the story. The tension and the emotions were building up all away until the last minute and the resolve was absolutely unforeseeable.
