La piscine (1969)
Great work
Thought the movie was an amazing watch.. strong dynamics between characters elevated by great performances. The character that caught me the most was Jean-Luc, I think how emotions like jealousy, suspicion and also desire and trust were portrait great, though he noticably stayed the same in his doings most of the movie. The differences that told the viewer how he felt towards his girlfriend Marielle and her ex Harry were strong enough to be moved but at the same time subtle enough to have respect for his solidarity. I think this way of approching this character related to the themes of the movie. How love and hate, trust and suspicion, envy and grant lie very close to eachother.
What I found very intriuging thematic wise was how pretentious one can act trying to live a certain life. Beautiful men and women, good food, a maid, a villa close at the coast of Italy are all things which a lot of people aspire and almost all of us could enjoy, interesting for me was how every scene the charactwrs were found in an enviroinment that cointains this quality way of living, nothing to worry about you would think... and that is exactly how the characters behave them selves. What this film tells me is that everybody has a grudge or a secret, we are extremely layered people who are capable of a lot.
Furthermore the movie had lovely aesthetic and really pulled me in the italian summer atmosphere. The cinematography was amazing as well with very surprising camera movements. They didn't always feel complementary to the emotion of the scene but were still very pleasing to look at.
Overa great movie to watch. Interesting characters with a simple plot and an intriuging arena which was captured in a good way.
71 Fragmente einer Chronologie des Zufalls (1994)
GOOD
I must say that I really enjoyed this movie. The subtle exploration of the character in very personal en realistic scenes were executed in the perfect cinematic way (framing, staging, blocking, pacing, editing). The way Haneke used (the lack
of) cohesive plot really caught my attention and made me excited about how the story was going to unfold. Though the end was a bit unsatisfying for me. I wasn't drawn enough to the characters to experience a emotional climax through any strong perspective from a character arc. I understanded the thematic exploration but found the climax a bit underwhelming. I'll defintely rewatch to get a hold of more missed details which might immerse me more than my first viewing.
