Blurr (2022)
Full of surprises and excellent execution
I'm so happy I saw this movie. The story is very exciting and keeps you thrilled throughout. It's an irony that wanted to see this masterpiece in a theatre but if it was released in one, then I wouldn't have gone to watch it.
Tapsee Panu has picked up brilliant scripts in recent times and this is one of those. The story is so good that it doesn't matter if there aren't any big stars in this movie. All characters have done a fantastic role. The killing and death scenes are really scary and will give experience of a horror story. If possible, watch it in one go and in a dark room with no distractions. That'll do justice with this piece.
Thank you Zee for bringing such a thriller to us.
Vaashi (2022)
Movie gets slow and the ending isn't fair. Good otherwise.
I enjoyed waiting the chemistry between Tovino and Keerthi. The courtroom drama starts in a good time but gets repetitive and slow in the second half. Some messages given in the movie are commendable like cross religious harmony, keeping personal and professional life separate, and women empowerment but I didn't agree with the final verdict. The overall case is also weak for 21st century. Sex is common these days between couples and the verdict of this movie gives a wrong message.
Beast (2022)
Superb action, decent story with some comedy
Vijay looks dashing in his looks. He has aged gracefully and the role of a retired raw officer suits him The story is somewhat predictable but the action scenes are worth the watch. Baring a few scenes, the fighting scenes are a treat to watch. Bollywood can learn how to make good action scenes. Story keeps you engaged throughout. It's a good entertainer overall. I watched this in Hindi.
Taish (2020)
A refreshing story that keeps you excited till the end
The.story line of Taish is very gripping. It shows the harsh world of gangsters and how common people sometimes get involved in it. The story is not predictable to a large extent. Acting is great by almost everyone. If stories like this come, I don't mind paying for a subscription. Audience deserves contents like this and it doesn't come cheap. We have to pay for it accordingly.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
Wonderful show. A must watch
This is one of the best shows of 2020. I'm glad it came at this time when there is a shortage of good original content. The whole era that has been created of the 1980, 1990 and 2000 take you through a memory ride and you remember your old days. That reminiscent factor makes this series an extra edge. It's similar to the tvf show summer of 1998. On top of brilliantly taking you back in your old days, this show has a wonderful and truly engaging story which makes you watch one episode after the other. Harshad's role has been played brilliantly. Everyone else also played their parts very well. I'm a fan of this show and would recommend everyone to watch it.
Bandish Bandits (2020)
Very original, with brilliant story and music
I'm spellbound. This is just - Wow. I'm struggling to find words from my limited vocabulary to describe how fantastic piece of work this entire series is. The entire cast has performed brilliantly. The choreography, music, shooting and almost everything that I can understand as an audience is superb. This is a must see show. Please take out time and watch this classic. You'll forget the recent dumb bollywood movies.
Dil Bechara (2020)
Superb story and acting. You'll cry.
Didn't see such a touching movie for a long time. It has so many life messages which one takes while watching. Not writing it here. People will understand on their own.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Boring movie with illogical fights
In the movie we see a family trying to save their daughter but in the process killing millions of people. This doesn't make sense. They're selfish who only want their people to be saved and don't care about anything else. Monster fighting scenes keep the interest but the story only disappoints. Better to be watched at home when you've lots of free time.
Apharan (2018)
A modern kidnapping story with cinematic end
I truly enjoyed watching Apharan. It is shot in the beautiful cities and valleys of uttarakhand. It has a lot of foul language which is evident from the trailer but that is also a major thing to look for. The dialogues keep you interested in the whole series. The story manages to keep the viewers glued to their screens and it is not easily possible to guess the next scene. There is good unpredictability. One more aspect is the introduction of old Hindi songs throughout the series. That does manage to create a connection with the 80s and 90s born audience. I'd suggest this a watch with friends. It's not appropriate for family viewing.
A Wednesday (2008)
A thriller with many twists. Will keep you on your seats
I watched this movie in November 2018, 10 years after its release. I had heard of it and knew that it is a really good one. It did not disappoint me. Even after a decade, the movie's content is intriguing enough to keep you on your seats and hope for the best. Some parts might seem like cliche now, but hey it is set in 2008. If you have time and want to watch a good content, do view this.
Mahanati (2018)
Mahanati - The lady to be known and remembered
It is not a trivial thing if I give 10/10 to a movie, and that too when I don't understand the language. Watched it in Telugu with English subtitles. I couldn't resist to express my feelings for this film.
The movie is set in the olden times of 1930s-1970s and the background shown makes that clear. The story moves ahead very naturally, not allowing the viewers to take their eyes off. It very beautifully tells the story of a woman who may not be known today by the youth, but one that needs to be known by everyone.
You'll be mesmerized with the beauty and performance of Keertri Suresh. She justifies the role of the legend and plays all the phases of her life with ease and conviction. She starts off as a young, simple village girl who does theaters and later aspires to join cinema. Then she's portrayed as a successful actress, lover, mother, and finally as a sufferer of alcoholism. The amount of joy and satisfaction which you get by seeing her in most part of the film, an equal level of pain and helplessness is felt in the latter part when she suffers and sees her life falling apart. It'd be hard for anyone to not empathize with her. Dulquer and others have also played their parts well to make this wonderful creation.
The roles of Samantha and Vijay are just enough to complement the actual story of Savitri. The narrative style adopted here is well received by the audience.
A good movie makes its audience happy, but a great one inspires them and goes deep inside their hearts, making them contemplate even after the curtains are down. This one belongs to the latter category. Movies like this should be an inspiration to Telugu/Tamil cinema and Indian cinema in general. Well done crew members.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018)
Presents a good topic in an interesting way
Shahid has done a great work with his acting. His expressions steal the show. Shraddha is gorgeous as ever who never fails to awe me. There's a twist in the middle which Shraddha fans may not like. Uttarakhand dialect has been shown throughout the movie by using 'bal' in sentences and using local ways of constructing sentences. Really liked the message and hope that affected people do get Justice. Ending is for a surprise and everything finishes on a good note. Uttarakhand geography is shown nicely which made me to think of buying a home in the beautiful mountains.
Welcome (2007)
A perfect entertainer even after a decade
After more than a decade since its release, I am writing this review after seeing it for like the 3rd time. The movie has been the source of several memes in the last couple of years including the iconic "Alu lelo0O, kande lelo0O", "mirakal, mirakal" among few others. There is hardly any 10 min stretch in the movie that won't make you laugh or admire the creativity and sarcasm of the writer/director. The characters of Udai, Majnu and Ghungroo will always stay in our funny memories. Akshay does a decent role, and Katrina, with her beauty, pulls off another one with the Khiladi. It is one perfect movie to watch with college friends, or family members. All the songs are still pleasant to hear, make your feet move, all while keeping the humor level decently high. If you haven't watched it, you're missing some original comedy.
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
A beautiful story that makes your own problems look very small
I stumbled upon this movie while searching what to see on hotstar. The movie is a must watch for anyone who believes in love, or who thinks that their problems are unsolvable, or who feels that they are in midst of a crisis, or who feels that life is unfair towards them, or who believes that happiness has ceased to exist in their life. It is for all those people, for all those mortals who know that life is not unlimited. The month-or-so long story of Hazel and Augustus makes you fall in love with them. You wish you could help them but life has its own ways. It makes you happy, sad, and hopeful, all in the span of 2 hours. You may start loving your life more than before and enjoy the small things which were being ignored for so long. When death is inevitable, love and courage make it easy to embrace it.
Road to Sangam (2009)
Thought provoking Gandhi movie
The story gives a very strong message. It starts simply as the story of a mechanic who just wants to complete his work and is ready to go against even his own people because he knows he's right. But soon it becomes a movie that tells us the importance of unity, and freedom that we get in this country. Somehow the movie, towards the end, makes one nostalgic and it is very emotional to see Gandhi's ashes being taken through a city's streets and everyone joins the convoy. It makes us think what we are doing wrong that is spreading hate or promoting bad deeds. It successfully makes us realise the efforts of a man to bring the people of this country together and form a free nation. Hats off to the director and all actors for pulling up a brilliant performance.
Muramba (2017)
A modern refreshing story
Muramba beautifully tells how to handle relationship that has continued for years but now may be looking as not working out. This refreshingly new story tells us the importance of completely opening up in front of our would-be partner so that he/she can help us in our journey of life. It nicely brings out the fact that parents are not completely alien to modern relationships and they can help it make stronger and remove unnecessary clutter. This is a must watch in your free time, may be with your loved one.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
Great Effects, bad story
The story started of great with awesome effects and ape fights but the story was not strong enough to hold the audience in their place. The movie becomes slow paced after about half an hour and becomes really uninteresting. I LITERALLY SLEPT WHILE WATCHING THE MOVIE. Not a great entertainer though it has some good fighting scenes and funny parts. The movie is so slow that you feel like forwarding the scenes till a good one comes. The apes look real and Caesar does a good job. The 'humans' roles was not up to the mark and there is no remarkable work done. The funny part was that after the movie ended everyone was making sound like apes and laughing.
