Cut Throat City (2020)

waste of good resources

The movie had some good resources, especially the presence of Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes, who did their best... but the script is so bad.

Waste of good opportunities and lots of melodramatic useless montages, lots of 'hood' words but not much decent action. The dialogues try to be iconic but result only in waste of time as the characters do not have a true powerful backbone to backup their dialogue.

I found the attempt to attach themselves to the Katrina disaster a distasteful display, just as a device to try to give depth to the movie, but resulting in trivialization of it all. Overall, bad script, too many flimsy image characters, waste of resources and time.

How to Become a Cult Leader (2023– )

Partial/shallow and sensationalized

It shows a very partial picture of things. Includes some supposed cults (because easy targets, visually, e.g. Osho) while leaves out some real and active cults (e.g. Scientology) out of fear and general opportunism. Just easy or obvious targets without goung deep into why cults exist and how come people nees them in this consuneristic world. Shallow overall and kind of an exact copy of what Explained had already done (still shallow). To give it intelletual depth they should have shown more points of view and not only people piling up with such an absolute predetermined and similar outlook on things. The creators act with the same absolutism of cults themselves!

That '90s Show (2023– )

Not really 90s kids and overall not well-written (not fun!)

Very disappointed. It seems that fear dominates hollywood comedy writers rather than the fun bone!

Not edgy at all, not realistic even! These are not kids from the 90s. They think it's the 90s just because they show the mall and blockbusters every once in a while... The gay kid is accepted by all with no conflict, and it was not that way back then. There were real struggles.

These are stereotypes of nowadays (2020s) teenagers with colorful clothes, that's all.

The old actors do a good job, but since it is about the kids rather than getting few laughs from the fans of That's 70s Show, it is very disappointing.

These writers dare not write comedy anymore: shameful display.

Robbing Mussolini (2022)

Quality and realistic atmosphere, decent heist movie thanks to Maccio!

The quality of the cinematics is good and the historical details too. The faces all match the characters and the acting is good - all but for Castellitto Jr who is kind of unwatchable so bad he is this spoiled brat!

The best character who made the movie interesting is Maccio's.

The best acting is that of the fascist general, who is a new face for me in Italian cinema, but very interesting.

The song arrangements were also good and, let's say, 'innovative classics'!

A bit predictable development and ending, but still better than the usual action hollywood movies of the past 15 years.

I feel that there are excess of Nazi based movies in the history of cinema and too few Fascist based movies because of one big reason: with the Nazis, hollywood can show Americans fighting evil, but with Fascist they would have to acknowledge the big role of Socialist freedom fighters! Usual obscurantist hypocrisy.

Unstable plot... useless, shallow morale...

Another wasted opportunity to make art.

The story tries to make a legend of character which is patronizing, annoyingly ultra-rich and that basically teaches nonses with his voiceover.

Who wrote this ****!?

Wasted time, overall.

Ps. At the beginning I hope it would be another niche poker movie like Rounders, but it ended up being a mesh of action and drama badly realized and not even properly conveying the poker metaphor. This guy should not direct and keep his dignity.

Force of Nature (2020)

Nice setup same old action

The setup is interesting and gives me hope for great things to happen. The faces/actors in the movie are also a strong point. Wish I could see more Mel Gibson here though. The plot is kind of the same as most heist action movies. Ok, but have seen too many and it bores me after the first half.

It is an OK action movie but I have seen too many of these and it was boring. after the first half an hour. It is refreshing to see a woman action hero. Good to have Jean Reno inside otherwise it would have been too many random faces. The plot is the same as always.

What I appreciated most was the intro to the story and the gang of characters (youtubber and his friends). There is a good mix of things, survival and escape with pieces of Hostel-like atmospheres mixed with an initial Escape Room scenes. It is an ok or also "good" movie within its horror-slasher category.

Preservation (2014)

Plain but pleasant survival slasher

I enjoyed the setting and the characters. I would have preferred no animal brutality but it is a horror at the end, so plausible. It is the same pattern as all the other survival horros but with kind of pleasant background and evil done by a gang of bored and twisted teenager. Nothing special, repetitive also for those who have watch so many like this, but ok nevertheless for its category.

Tolo Tolo (2020)

Hilarious comedy and superb satire!

You can tell that this is the fruit of a deeply well-though creative and sociological process. Zalone takes about 2 to 3 years to complete a movie project and this allows him to have such results. The movie is full of great jokes which only Italians can fuly appreciate (I guess), some of them very witty, others apparently low-level but that make sense for the character's attitude. The obvious theme of the movie is immigration and it is well depicted together with all the hypocrisy around the topic. I watched it as an Italian with other Italian friends and know by experience how precise the social commentary adn satire of the film was. The idea of the trailer for the movie was also the touch of a genius, as its apparently politically incorrect tones made also a ton of bigot or shallow people to go and watch it at the cinemas: the movie is clearly the opposite of racist (as any human being with decency or a glimpse of culture could not support such a stand).

The movie shows clearly what sex addiction is and to what lengths it might take you. Of course, it ia not a high budget commercial movie to have fun watching nor a cheap erotic movie. It's enjoyable for anyone wanting to peek inside the mind of a sex addict and see realistically what a sex addict experiences when he gives in. Also the finale was very realistic. Bravo to the director and the cast, who manged to create this.

Very well-rendered, realistic and useful movie!

There is not much knowledge of porn or sex addiction. This movie is a great effort, and very tasteful, to portray this condition which to some more or less extent affects a lot of people in our western countries.

The path to true fulfillment is not consuming more or having more sex, "loosing ourselves in porn" and other quick-fixes. The only escape from a cyclical and boring life (depressing, if looked consciously at!) is to have compassion, be truthful to yourself and put effort to change your habits into healthier one! Compassion and real relations (not only but temporary fun) are the key!

Don Jon is incredibly realistic, showing both the symptoms and the cures. Very nice! Nice job Gordon-Lewit! Great!
