Not as good as they say
30 July 2018
I was a JW for many years and watched this movie and expected a lot more from it. It was truly dull and never really depicted the horrid cult of Watch Tower as evil and twisted, which it truly is. They regularly drive people to suicide because of their "shunning" policy, but this was never touched upon in any meaningful way. The acting was very good but the screenplay was a tepid affair that didn't hit home the truth about this cult. I definitely couldn't sit through this again. I give it 3 stars because of the solid acting.

Yawnability!
12 April 2018
This movie has its moments of good action scenes but is totally let down by its extremely boring narrative. I was thoroughly unmoved by the whole thing because of too much talk. If I want to listen to talk I will turn the radio on. How do these dull movies manage to get funding? I wouldn't watch this again even if you paid me. What a complete and utter let-down. If you have crippling insomnia, this is most definitely for you.

Yuk!!!!

Hell's teeth! What a tedious, dull and boring mess this is. 60 minutes was enough for me because if a movie can't deliver in that time, it's not worth further viewing. What has happened to Ridley Scott who gave us Alien and Gladiator? Has he forgot how to pace a movie, give it tension and some life. All I found was talk-talk-talk-talk-talk and more talk. When I saw some reviewers had only given it one star I thought they were being mean; I now realize they were being generous. Without a doubt the worst movie of 2018 so far. Total garbage. Don't believe me? Go watch it and see. I have warned you.

Waste of time
2 January 2018
This is no Saving Private Ryan, most definitely not because it is tedious beyond belief. There is no character development and the excitement and tension is non-existent. I switched this rubbish off after an hour. Please trust me, this is not a great movie like some are saying it is. The script is dreadful, as is the acting. It is almost impossible to believe in anything in this Nolan debacle. Even the air dog-fight scenes were intensely mediocre. Do yourself a favor, watch Private Ryan again or Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. They tread this heap of garbage into the ground. Hey, you don't believe me? Go sit through it and tell me I'm wrong.

Mother of a bad movie!
13 December 2017
This nonsense started off well enough, but in the hands of director Darren Aronofsky it quickly went down hill. This guy needs to study the great directors like Hitchcock and Spielberg because he hasn't got a clue how to keep the viewer in suspense, instead he unleashes his heavy-handedness on the proceedings. After an hour in the movie descends like a lead weight into an abyss, with mayhem and craziness. It just doesn't make sense and becomes irritating and annoying beyond belief. A sterling cast are wasted on this guff and the writer needs to go back to script school. I gave up on this tosh after 90 mins and did not have a hint of a notion to find out the climax. To me, the worst film I've seen in 2017, hands down! I have been generous with my two star rating.

Well paced, clever and exciting
29 November 2017
Wow, just wow! This is a Jackie Chan movie and I hate his movies - until this one! It is terrific and needs a much higher IMDb rating than the 7.2 it now has. It is by far the best movie Chan has made and a truly clever thriller. The script is smart, the editing spot on and the directing just superb. Pierce Brosnan does a great acting job, probably his best role ever. I was riveted by the story-line, especially as I'm Irish born and lived in London for many years. Youngsters will not understand the movie because it is too smart for them. I honestly loved this movie and all thrillers should be as good as this, clever and gripping as hell.

What a monstrous mess
23 November 2017
It's up to you to believe me, but this show is just pure drivel. The story-line is just unfathomable and the central character lacks any semblance of personality. I got to episode 8 hoping it would improve but gave up 40 minutes in of 'talk-talk-talk-talk and more talk. It is, quite frankly, boring and lacking in action and good acting. Just watch episode 8 and you'll see what I mean. I cannot think of a more boring episode of TV in my whole life. If this show makes it to a season two I will be amazed, in fact it will be a marvel. The script writers need sacking. DULL, DULL, DULL!!!!!!! It ain't no Walking Dead.

What a total waste of time...
24 April 2017
Del Amitri, a Scottish pop band, wrote a brilliant song called Nothing Ever Happens- and it is probably summed up in this piece of utter drivel. What a bore-fest if ever there was one. Believe the positive reviews if you want to, but they're all fake as far as I'm concerned. I truly do not know what is going on in IMDb. Soap operas on TV are far superior to this piece of pretentious garbage. Okay, the acting was very good, but good acting cannot ever elevate a boring movie. I am truly fed up with people giving good reviews to films that are not in the least good, but I suppose that's the way of the world. Give 100 people an assignment to help a poor movie by giving it great reviews - and bingo! - the film will do much better. I suppose we'll all just need to live with false reviews. Please watch this movie, as I did, and you will see I am being candid and frank. Good luck to you if you think it deserves the good reviews.

A sneaky little thriller
24 January 2017
Forget all the fake hype surrounding La La Land, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. These films are all pretentious garbage when compared to this little hidden jewel that will never see mainstream cinema, and that is a mystery to me, because it tells me that hidden forces are at work and suppressing masterful little trinkets like this and forcing us to watch drivel like the aforementioned duffers that make mainstream cinema every week. This movie is clever, gripping, idiosyncratic, suspenseful and what makes movies enjoyable. I am almost at the end of my tether about all the glowing reviews attributed to dire movies. I can only think it is a cabal of people associated with the productions that put out rave reviews. I have a brain and can think for myself and ascertain that La La Land, Manchester by the Sea & Moonlight are not great movies, but will probably do well at the pretentious Oscars. This little Irish movie kicks dirt in the face of Hollywood, showing them how to make gripping movies.

I simply do not believe the reviews!
23 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What the heck is going on? This movie does not deserve the rave reviews it is getting. Okay, let me get this out of the way first, the acting was superb, but in no way does good acting make a movie - it is story, drama and conflict that does this. The movie crawls along at a snail-like pace, occasionally awakening interest, but just turns out to be as dull and unexciting as La La Land and Manchester by the Sea. I am truly fed up with 'fake' reviews on IMDb that build a movie up to be something it isn't. They need to put more effort into weeding these people out who clearly have an agenda and perhaps are somehow associated with the movies production. Moonlight is a meandering film that ends stupidly. Someone else on IMDb said the end was awesome. What a complete and utter idiot. The end was dumb and pretentious. It seems to me that leftists have taken over Hollywood and place great reviews to bolster their poor attempts at movie making. Watch this at your peril. Just boring nonsense with the odd moment of excitement thrown in. I would NEVER sit through this again even if I was paid!

Useless movie
23 January 2017
I liked the premise for this movie of a captain's men going missing while under his leadership in the mountains of Afghanistan. I mistakenly thought it would be along the lines of Predator but it was more along the lines of Winnie the Pooh Gets Laid! I was hoping and praying that Arnie would arrive in a chopper and blow the cast away, but sadly this was wishful thinking. It is a highly pretentious movie that tries to be deep and meaningful but turns out to be shallow and deeply hollow. It leaves you with an empty feeling and that it has tried but miserably failed at being suspenseful and gripping. A dreadful movie that some idiots threw money at. Total rubbish! Don't believe me? Watch it and waste 105 minutes where you could have nipped out for a good DVD. I gave it 2 stars, one of which was for the scenery and acting.

Unbelievably Captivating
27 December 2015
Let me start by saying that I cannot believe someone actually gave this wonderful film one star in his review. That tells me that the reviewer has some sort of grudge for doing this.

This movie is what cinema is all about, gripping, captivating and extremely scary in many parts. I believe this work from the wonderful director reinvents the adventure/survival/revenge genre. My jaw was on the floor several times, especially with THAT bear scene. How it was filmed to be so realistic is a mystery to me. Just wait till you see it. In all my life I have never seen anything like this, so for someone to give it a one star review leaves me bewildered and wondering what goes on in some people's minds. This is a magnificent film and I have given it ten stars for the amazing experience I had watching it.

Just a pure waste of time
27 December 2015
Ron Howard needs to give up making movies. This is a particularly dull and uninspiring attempt at film making. It is just awful and extremely boring. Brendon Gleeson and Ben Wishaw are brilliantly gifted actors but are completely wasted in this bore-fest. There was nothing exciting going on and the CGI of the whales was totally laughable. I'm sure Ron Howard will be a laughing stock because of this utterly uncompelling nonsense. I have recently watched The Revenant and was totally sucked into it and truly wide-mouthed at how brilliant it was, whereas with this pile of junk I could easily have fallen asleep. I really don't understand why directors like Howard are allowed to make movies as bad as this. No film should be as boring as this drivel.

Quite simply incredible
20 November 2015
Right, let me get this out of the way first of all - the reviewers who gave this a low score have not got a clue about clever cinema. This film is brilliant and, for me, the best film I've seen in 2015. Some are calling it a masterpiece in their reviews and I certainly do not disagree with them. Yes it starts off slow but when it builds, hold on to your breath. It is technically amazing and the logistics in putting this movie together are just jaw-dropping - all done in one take!!!! The director and cameraman deserve Oscars for this cinematic triumph - especially the director Sebastian Schipper. Not only is the film gripping, it's actors are superb and, in particular, Lala Costa in the eponymous role. Hollywood could never ever come up with something as engrossing and clever as this in a gazillion years. European cinema is unquestionably the most inventive on the planet. Definitely the best German move I have ever seen. Sebastian Schipper, get your Oscar speech for best foreign film written out now. Surely nothing can touch this for sheer professionalism and technical ability.

Truly dire drama
13 November 2015
Despite what many reviewers say about this film, it is just very badly put together by writer/director Rob Burrows and in no way does it merit the high ratings it gets. The story is extremely simplistic and at the same time very unrealistic to the point of embarrassing. The scenes with the police and the 'landlord incident'and how Stephanie is treated is just amazingly inept and very badly enacted. I wish I had something positive to say about the whole thing but I haven't. The acting from most of the characters was dreadful (except Amy Ormston as Michaela)and the scenes of conflict did not grip and hold me. Rob Burrows attempt at making a realistic social drama falls flat on its face. It was obviously made on a small budget but this should not mean that the editing was as bad as it was. Check out the 'dissolves' in the wrong places at inappropriate times. As for the conclusion...judge for yourself - much, much less than mediocre. This movie is so low in quality, writing and realism that it could limbo under a closed door.

Improbable but carried of with aplomb...
12 November 2015
I read all the reviews on here and thought, yeah, another stitch-up job where all the friends on production get together and post fake reviews. But I gave it a shot anyway and, guess what, this delivers and my assumption about fake reviews were blown out of the water. The movie maker, Levan Bakhla, is obviously inspired by the other great movie maker Michael Haneke and it reminded me of Funny Games, one of my favourite movies. Yes, the story can be improbable at times but that doesn't detract from the suspenseful way the director carries you along. It's not your usual revenge movie where the baddie gets his comeuppance, but it comes pretty close to it...with interest. I was totally held by the whole thing, especially in the last thirty minutes.Sterling Knight does a good acting job as Chris and is quite scary. Its ending will have you discussing with friends the outcome. All I can say is, well done, Levan Bakhla. You sure know how to direct a good movie.

Didn't quite hit the heights...
15 September 2015
How on earth can you take a subject about the world's greatest mountain and make it into a totally boring movie? Easy, put it into the hands of director Baltasar Kormakur. It doesn't matter that you have great actors, but it does matter when you have a terrible screenplay. In all honesty this film was a total let-down for me, especially as I was so looking forward to seeing it for the past few months, having read much about it. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. It has a lot of positive reviews, though I cannot fathom why. If you are suffering from insomnia, buy this on DVD and put it on loop - problem solved. Nothing could make me watch this tedious nonsense again. Go see this plodding 'adventure' and tell me you were on the edge of your seat. You won't! I was on the edge of sleep. I would go as far to say that this is the worst mountaineering film I have ever had the misfortune to watch. Touching the Void was gripping and so should this have been, instead it was a wasted attempt at what should have been a great movie. After coming home, I stuck hot needles into my eyes and found it less painful than watching this excuse for a mountaineering story.

Small being the operative word...
16 July 2015
Yawn, yawn, yawn. What an awful movie which should have been so much better. The script is dreadful and clichéd and cringe-worthy at times (who the heck commissions these script writing morons?). Children will probably love this trash but anyone with a brain will probably die (mercifully) during their visit to watch this drivel. It is predictable and slow in its useless 'grab the viewer' tenet. Nothing ever happens of great interest and Paul Rudd is totally not up to the job of his portrayal. The first twenty minutes are a work class in how NOT to make a movie. If Alfred Hitchcock had made this, then you could forget about a future gem like Psycho being made. The directer, Peyton Reed, does not have any imagination and should be ashamed of this abominable mess of digital inferiority. You could not pay me to watch this garbage again. I think, in real life, that Peyton Reed is only 2mm in stature. His movie is much smaller than that. Please excuse me, I need to go and vomit in a thimble.

Very entertaining
16 July 2015
I am so glad I listened to most of the good reviews here on IMDb; the negative ones are talking through their butts. This is a solid and engrossing movie. Okay, it borrows heavily from T2 but rehashes it in a very engaging way, in fact in a very overt and comedic way. No one will ever better T2 but this is a stellar attempt of which the director, Alan Taylor, should be very proud of. It was thrilling and also very funny at times. Yes, there were corny lines but I believe the director did this on purpose. If you're a critic and didn't like this film, I suggest you get out a lot more and stop pretending to people that you're somehow more aware of what's good and that you have a higher IQ than most. This was two hours well spent in my local cinema. People who gave this only one star are total clowns with their heads up their aspidistras! Special effects were brilliant, leaving me on the edge of my seat. The bus and helicopter scenes were amazingly well done. I saw many of the holes in the plot but I didn't give a hoot. This was top-notch entertainment, much, much better than the awful Antman, which I saw yesterday.

Outlander (2014– )
Outlander is definitely IN!
10 June 2015
This is most certainly raw and gritty television at its best. However, the intertwined love stories are brilliantly done. The story is good and the suspense at times is palpable. Tobias Menzies plays a dual part and he is captivating, especially in his evil capacity as Black Jack Randall, a truly evil and revolting character who you want to see hung, drawn and quartered as slowly as possible. The last episode is extremely graphic and I have never witnessed anything so shocking on TV ever, but at the same time it was all necessary to tell the story. Och, I'll tell ye, man, it's a stoatin' piece o telly!

One other thing, the Scottish landscape scenes are awesome and I'm sure the Scottish Tourist Board will benefit greatly from this lavish production.

It Follows this will get bad reviews...deservedly
10 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I'll be honest and say the first few minutes of the movie garnered my attention, and it also had one or two scary moments, but overall it was a wasted attempt at trying to be different. It became tedious and boring half way through and it looked as though it had been made by a bunch of college kids who didn't really know what the heck they were doing. Someone else says on IMDb that it is one of the best horrors of the decade so far - give me a break! And as for its ending and the absolutely stupid swimming pool scene, they were poorly executed, as should have been the director and special effects team. Very poor horror flick. Just watch it and you'll see what I mean. Awful, pure awful.

Mediocre and twee
15 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A movie isn't as good as its beginning; it's a sum of its middle and end also. This is where the film falls apart. It's too simplistic and unengaging. The part were the young girl and her older friend escape is not too well done. They're in a busy, busy place with police in the crowd, but they're still apprehended again without too much trouble - by the same two guys who let them escape whilst taking a leak together when the girls absconded!!! Bad dialogue also exists, especially between Kline and Ramos (Ray and Jorge) with Ramos stealing the show.

Now the end is totally Americano and sugary. Just wait and see. It almost defies belief and will have you muttering under your breath many well earned expletives, especially towards its director, Marco Kreuzpaintner, who lacks much in the way of building tension and suspense. The very final scene is just plain stupid.

The film gains many excellent reviews on here, which doesn't surprise me. It's not dire, but comes pretty close. This for me, is an exercise in how not to make a well structured piece of film.

I was feeling kind when I gave it 5/10.

Disturbing but real
12 February 2015
I cannot believe that some give this movie 1 star. It is seriously good and shows an underbelly of UK life that 'lefties' ignore or refuse to accept. Do not accept these stupid 1 star reviews, unless of course you're a lefty in denial of reality. The film is gripping and real in its portrayal of British youth, which I've seen first hand in their cold-blooded outlook. You just need to look at the London riots of recent years and see heartless youths robbing injured individuals, which is totally bereft of fellow-feeling and love. I am not wrong. It is filmed and there to be viewed on the internet.

EDEN LAKE is a seriously GOOD MOVIE!

Don't believe the negative reviews
12 February 2015
I don't believe IMDb anymore. This is a really interesting show, intriguing and enigmatic. It's probably too complicated for many on here who cannot connect the dots because of its complicated story-line. Brilliantly acted and beautifully filmed. I am totally hooked and cannot wait for the next episode. By no stretch can this be called boring. I am slowly learning that there are many on here who cannot discern good TV or movies. I was shocked to the core recently that most people liked 'I Saw the Devil,' A ridiculous South Korean movie and gave it high ratings, when it is the biggest pile of drivel ever committed to film. Watch it and see. My goodness, it is bad, but Fortitude has my backing for sure. I realise that we all have different tastes, but in a court of law, Fortitude would be vindicated as good but I Saw the Devil would be laughed out of court for the pile of dross that it is.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible
11 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe how bad this excuse of a movie is. It is chronically bad and I cannot understand why it has got such a high rating on IMDb. Some have compared it to Se7en and Silence of the Lambs. That is just pure ridiculous. The serial killer is simply plain stupid and ludicrous in the utmost extreme. The script is dire and the person responsible for it should be sent to North Korea for a long holiday. The story is dumb and an insult to anyone's intelligence. A total waste of time. I truly felt cheated big time by this incompetent mess that truly staggers the imagination. It's just a gore fest and one that's not even done well. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! WHAT A PURE DUMB PIECE OF RUBBISH THIS TRULY IS!!! This will set South Korea's movie-making credentials back in time. Total DRIVEL.

OK, when I wrote the first part of this review (all of above) I gave up watching after 1 hour and 6 minutes because of its dire screenplay - utterly stupid. So I decided to switch it back on and see if it could get any worse. I was shocked at how bad it became. The two serial killers are pure and simple imbeciles. There is also a rape sequence that is the stupidest and most laughable thing I've ever seen. Also the beatings that the serial killer takes and repeatedly survives defies belief. The whole story is total nonsense and one of the stupidest screenplays I've ever had the misfortune to have seen. I am now staggered to see so many good reviews about this crazy film. It's making me suspicious about some of the reviewers on here. Some get mediocre reviews, such as Eden Lake (6.9), which is 100 times better than this tosh. This is film making at its very worst. Hollywood would never consider doing a remakes of this as it would bomb because of the stupid story and how really crazy it is. I just can't believe people think this is a good movie. The gore is overdone, but overdone gore doesn't make a good movie, a story well told does. This has no semblance of one. Pure and utter tripe. The main protagonist cries at the end of the movie. I now understand why. Really, really BAD FILM.
