The Marvels (2023)
Feels a desperate and is a very poor movie Marvel hits a new all time low.
On the whole as you would expect the special effects are really good, and as always Samuel L Jackson is superb & Brie Larson is really good at Carol Danvers but thats where the good ends.
Disappointingly the whole moves feels desperate, as if someone just needed another Marvel movie and passed it to someone saying "quick make a script so we can quickly pushout a poor movie" and make sure you tick lots of boxes on the way & randomly try and link it with some of our TV series.
As a huge Marvel fan I just find this dissapointing that anyone whould approve the release of such a terrible movie. This is the sort of rubbish that is ruining the franchise.
Personally I would not waste your time watching this, its same old same old, over the top and often boring.
Such a shame as Captian Marvel has so much potential to be a strong charactor with some of the best stories but Disney seems to keep rolling out trash as they dont seem to know what to do with her. Hint : Disney get the people that write and make the Marvel movies to read Marvel graphic novels.
Candy Cane Lane (2023)
Could have been very good but its just bad. This is not the Christmas movie you are looking for.
This has all the concepts to be a great Christmas movie but it seems to suffer from poor editing, bad acting and some terrible casting choices. Some scenes are not needed and some scenes are so stretched out you cant help but think "Oh get on with it". These scenes slow the whole movies flow & keep taking you out of the story. So many times in this movie I was actually bored. Some of the acting is the worst I have seen in a long time, worse than some straight to TV movies. In conclusion a decent idea & story ruined by too many boring talking scenes that someone felt needed to be left in the movie. & some awful casting choices. Best avoid this one & enjoy another Christmas movie instead.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
What a superb show from start to finish
I see a lot of people comparing this to the office, which I find really odd as I totally hate the office & thought it was boring! Whereas What we do in the Shadows is excellent. Its funny, clever & extremely well thought out & scripted such as bringing old links back in new episodes. The show is that great it can make what is simetimes an unlikable character likeable. I write this review after just finishing season season 5 & honestly this keeps getting better each season! I hope they can keep it fresh & bring us more great seasons.
I am a fussy TV watcher & find very few TV series that i actually really enjoy but this is one of them & I would go as far to say its one of the best TV series's ever. Fresh, entertaining & funny to certain types of humour.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Not as great as the hype or the stunts
The whole film seems to be based on an adrenaline seeker getting his thrills by doing stunts & building uo to a big stunt that we all had seen before the movie was even released.
The action scenes seem to choppy and shakey cam & lens flares are used so much it tends to take you out of the movie.
I was also very surprised to see some very poor special effects & models towards the end of the movie,l.
The movie is set in sone lovely locations but overall the whole movie just seemed lacking of something.
Its watchable but its far from great and I think it got way over hyped. Also its kind on a Matrix 4 which is just a trailer & build up for the next movie. It could have been great but fails on too many aspects to be a hreat movie.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Super fun movie with nods to the 80s D&D cartoon fan
I really wasn't sure about going to see this. I grew up with the 80s D&D cartoon and I thought this would be a rubbish spin off. However on watching the film I pleasantly surprised as it turned out to be a fun entertaining movie with some great throw backs to the original cartoon. You can tell someone involved with the making of the movie was also a fan of the cartoon.
I was also concerned that Hugh Grant was going to be in it as I have always found his acting wooden but he was actually a well played character that fits into the movie perfectly.
After seeing this I am really hoping that more D&D movies will be released.
65 (2023)
A enjoyable film set from a different perspective (a few spoilers in here)
I went to the cinema to see this and I must say I wasnt expecting much but to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the best acting I have seen from Adam Driver, he protrays the characters emotions to perfection.
Its nice to see movies that do not follow the norm, and seeing this perspective of Earth from another lifeforms experience is fun.
As teh movie is set 65 Million or so years in the past it works well with a "Alien" ship crach landing on Earth of the past as all evidence would clearly have gone.
If you are looking for a fresh good old style action adventure film then this is the best there has been for quite sometime for all us movie watchers that are bored of the same old same old rubbish that Hollywood is pumping out.
I would love there to be a sequel but I dont think this will happen.
Die Hart (2020)
Ironic that the film points out that Kevin Hart needs to stay as a sidekick
Ironic that the film points out that Kevin Hart needs to stay as a sidekick & with his bad same old same old acting in this and how terrible and predictable this film is its actually correct.
Even John Travolta who has a good character and actor couldn't save this movie from been so poor.
It's too predictable from start to finish. Forced comedy that isn't funny and Kevin Hart as a leading character just doesn't work, he comes across as annoying and unlikable.
Lazy writing, bad leading man acting, boring and predictable.
The whole film is simply a waste of time. Skip this one and watch something decent instead.
The Kid Who Would Be King (2019)
Another movie that should have finished half and hour earlier
This review contains spoilers. This is a "ok" movie at best, it has some very good parts and some very weak parts, Technically is is a good story that is executed poorly.
The movie would have been much better for example if it had ended a full 30 minutes before it actually ends.
To explain boy finds a Sword, boy goes on a quest (all good so far) boy learns friendship and teamwork boy and team defeat Enemy (The End). All good up until there.... But no this film has to then continue for a full 37 minutes of further story turning into a poor "Home Alone" in a school of kids defeating thousands of Sword weilding Skeletons, which in my opinion turned the film from a fantasy adventure to a poor school based silly ending that there was no need for. This partcompletley ruined the movie for me.
The Binge 2: It's a Wonderful Binge (2022)
Worst Christmas movie I have ever seen. Maybe worst movie ive ever seen!
Save yourself 1hr 38mins & skip this one.
The is the worst Christmas movie i have ever seen, in-fact its one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
The acting is awful & it has actors I usually think are great!
The story is so weak and poorly scripted & the comedy simply fails to deliver as its so forced. There is even awkward pauses after scripted jokes, i guess to allow the level of audience they are aiming to time to let the joke soak in.
I have watched 1000s of movies & some are good and some are bad. This jumps into my top tem worst films I have ever had to sit through. Its boring to the max.
If you want a entertaining funny drug movie watch Cheech & Chong and leave this movie in the trash where it deserves to be.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Superb loved it & true to original proper Star Wars
As a late 40s Star Wars fan, I was concerned when I heard this was coming out but on watching it I was happily surprised of hoe good it was.
It ties the rebels series & clone wars between A bew hope & strings it together well. Dont get ne weong it could have been better but I am happy it wasnt like episode 2. Attack of tge clone wars tripe.
Its gesat to see Kenobi & Darth as they should.be as all powerful force masters.
I really hooe they do more Darth in his prime episodes as the last few minutes of Rogue One are simply outstanding.
I want to see Vader using his force potential to the max.
Well acted & fun like Star Wars should be.
Samaritan (2022)
Far too obvious and just a bit zzzzzz really
I was really looking forwards to seeing this film but boy was I disappointed.
It has an far too obvious plot. It tries to be clever but fails on all counts and the action is back to wobble cam and never quite hits the mark.
Dont get me wrong the story was a good idea but this has just been put together poorly. Its like a good story thats told very badly.
I found the whole story dragged on and its all been done before (and much better) all a bit zzzzz from start to finish.
I'd save the 142 minutes and skip this one.
Good points : (Sorry I will change that to good point as its the only one) Stallones acting is great as always.
Bad Points : Boring, Dull Action Scenes, Over the top acting, story badly actioned, and all very dull overall.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Started off so promising & now has lost its way and simply miserable
Its a shame that this hasnt kept the momentum of the first and second series.
There is some superb characters such as. Lt Cmdr Pail, Tilly, Booker & Tig for example but for some reason the writers keep deciding to focus on the Michael Brunham character who is cold, annoying and self centered, far away from the true meaning of Star Trek. It ruins the whole flow of the show and I personally think the whole series would be better off without her.
The more the series is proceeding the more obvious everything is becoming.
With the character Michael its like Star Trek with a added depressant, the whoel mood is somber and miserable and not enjoyable to watch. Hopefully the writers will sort it out in future episodes. I watch Star Trek for escapism from the realities not to make me feel more stressed or depressed.
Some of the stand alone episodes without Michael are great but its so hard to like a program when the captian of the crew is so unlikeable.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Finally Star Trek is fixed
Finally after all these years Star Trek is fixed. Takes us back to the good old days of individual epiodes where you can sit back relax and enjoy without having to watch everything so you know a huge season spanning dragged out back story.
This is the best stand alone Star Trek for ages abd I hope they stay on this path. Maybe a perfect setup for a new Star Trek Strange New Worlds in the future. Like the good old days.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
The sequel Ghostbusters 1 & 2 & the Real Gostbusters were longing for...
As a 47 year old person who saw the original Ghostbusters in the cinema back in 1984 when I was 10 years old as in the UK this was a PG (Parental Guidance) movie back then and then watched it on rented VHS tape over and over until I finally got bought a VHS version of it (Which I still own). I was hooked on the franchise and have loved the film ever since. So as you can imagine I was so disappointed by the terrible 2016 Ghostbusters monstrosity.
However, Ghostbusters Afterlife is a superb sequel that also stands up as a stand along movie, it is the sequel Ghostbusters 1 & 2 & the cartoon Real Ghostbusters were longing for.
I watched this in 2021 at the cinema and was impressed by how the story is told and unfolds in the film and the little easter eggs in the film make an awesome nostalgic trip as well.
No spoilers but towards the end of the movie the film moved me to a few tears as it is very emotional especially when you grew up with the Original Ghostbusters and the Cartoon real Ghostbusters.
A great movie to escape into and a excellently written fun movie to watch.
Escape Plan: The Extractors (2019)
Terrible film dont waste your time
I enjoyed Escape Plan but this movie is awful, weak plot, some terrible acting and I had to turn on subtitles towards the end to understand what the two heroes were trying to shout.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Who thinks it a good idea to write and make this trash?
Wow I saw the bad reviews but went into this open minded as I like sci-fi movies of all types, but I can honestly say it is 100% terrible. I think it was suposed to be "clever" but it comes across as simply terrible.
This is without a doubt one of teh worst films I have ever seen and I even love some "bad" movies! Save your time and money and really avoid this film at all costs.
Its full of bad acting, badly delivered lines, one liners that simply dont work, poor story, slow and boring and pointless.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Terrible Star Trek spin off
Wow this is bad, its kind of if you got a Star Trek fan to write a attempt at comedy Star Trek & it fails on every level. Im sure who ever wrote it thinks its really funny & clever but its so not.
Ive managed to watch 8 episodes to see if it gets better and believe me it doesnt, same old dull cliché at every moment.
Totally annoying female main charactor who is completley none-likeable & a dull betrayed weak male main charactor.
Save your time and skip this one, even if you are a Star Trek fan.

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
A huge Rambo franchise fan review., Not a action movie like all the other Rambo Movies
A huge Rambo franchise fan review..
I have been a fan of the Rambo franchise since the first film, I owned the toys, comics and annuals etc so I was looking forwards to this movie as I thought Rambo 4 wasn't that bad and 5 would improve on it (I was wrong).
Firstly I dont think this movie could be called an action film which I think all the other Rambo films are. One hour and ten minutes pass before the action starts and the actual action part of the film is under thirty minutes which really disappointed me.
I enjoy all the Rambo films but I really cant see myself re-watching this, it is by far the weakest of all the Rambo movies. Its like teh writters looked for a reason to get people to attack John and took over an hour to set this up where as it could have been as simple as an old enemy from the past wants to see John dead.
Another sequel from that was not needed and seemed forced and doesn't really have anything to do with the previous movies apart from some clips of the old movies in the credits!
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
An OK Zombie film but not as good as the first one.
Zombie Land is one of my favorite all time movies, I have lost count on how many times I have watched it so as I am sure you can imagine I have been looking forwards to a sequel for ages and was following all its production issues throughout. On watching this for the first time I was very disappointed compared to the first movie. Dont get me wrong it is not a bad movie but the story line was weak as if the people that wrote it were just looking for a forced reason to get everyone back on the road.
Its worth a watch as it does have some good bits but just dont expect it to be anywhere near as good as the original.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Average at best
An average Marvel film at best, Samuel Jackson & the cat are the stars of the movie. The rest of the movie is kind of a fill in the gaps movie for Avengere Endgame movie. It is a enjoyable movie but seems to suffer from lazy writing.
Under the Skin (2013)
The sort of film you would expect from a art student trying to be clever and failing
I enjoy all sorts of movies and enter watching movies with an open mind. I really wanted to like this film as it sounded so different but on watching it I was very disapointed indeed.
The film is too slow and flawed from the very start. I think the film is trying to be sylish and artistic but fails into long over dragged out scenes that simply bore the viewer. You can see this from the opening scene of the movie which continues throughout the whole movie, I found my head constantly thinking "Get on with it"
Soo dragged out it spoils what could have been a very good story.
My best comparison would be like a student made movie that had to be a certain duration so as the actual film was 30 minutes long the student went and extended scenes for no reason other that to make the film 1hr 42 minutes long (yep basically its like 1hr 12 mins of un-required dragged out silences and long camera shots of random people in the streets for no reason..
I have given the 2 stars because Scarlett Johansson does play the part very well and her acting is all this movie has going for it.
Overall a good concept may have been there but such poor execution makes this film like waiting for time to pass in such a boring way. I would recommend you save the time and dont watch thsi movie it is simply very poor. Honestly if you want to pass the time watch some paint dry it will be more entertaining than this movie.
The Orville (2017)
Simply fantastic, deep thoughtful and with meaning and not preachy
I approached the Orvill suspecting it would be another "silly" comedy written and staring Seth Macfarlane which if I am been honest I have never been a huge fan but he does always seem to come across as a genuinely nice guy.
However I was more than pleasantly surprised! The whole show has purpose and meaning and comes across as if it has been written as a perfect space adventure of humans and other races in space.
Each story seems to have the perfect balance of humour & real life events. I suppose it would literally be how I would expect to operate if I worked on a space ship in the future as people would still need to have a laugh in serious situations to take the pressure off and to help everyone get along.
The show manages to have meaning without been preachy and each episode makes you think. I don't want to get into the comparisons with Star Trek which I have always watched and enjoyed but the Orville seems like a more incident and more true to life space show and at the moment I personally feel it surpasses any other Sci-fi show I have watched in years.
Superbly written and executed and I am a huge fan of the Orville now and I hope this runs for a long time.
If you are unsure give it a chance.
Logan (2017)
Depressing dark and generally miserable movie
Let me start by saying I am a huge Wolverine and Marvel universe fan.
After all the hype I was excited to watch this film but personally I just didn't like it, which disappointed me. I go to the cinema to be entertained not to be depressed. I found the whole film portrayed a miserable old Wolverine in a dark place, surely when you are over 200 years old you would have figured out how to enjoy life instead of wasting it moping around.
It was violent and I have no issue with that and some of the scenes were superb, The acting was also very good from all involved, but I found the film took itself far to seriously and was too preachy.
If I go to the cinema to see a super-hero or anti-hero movie I don't need it to be believable and realistic and I do not need the point of the movie rammed down my throat, its supposed to be far fetched and unbelievable to stretch your imagination and let you work out your own point of the movie.
I just feel this film is a demonstration of a character misunderstood by the contract owner and how they would feel if they were in Wolverines shoes.
To sum up.. Too preachy, too miserable & too dumbed-down to be a properly enjoyable anti-hero movie.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
One of the worst films I have ever seen and I am a huge Batman fan
Let me start with some background. I am a Graphic Novel and Comic reader and have been for over 35 years. I am not a fan boy of the likes of "the comics are always right" I had seen bad reviews from the critics of this film but I went to the cinema with an open mind and I really wanted to like this movie.
Unfortunately I was more disappointed than I thought I ever could be from a film. The first third of the film is just boring. Then some of the action starts and it is all shaky in your face camera so you cant see what is going on.
Batman vs Superman part is lame short and stupid and through out the hours of dullness that this film runs for it was disappointing that the third hero hardly gets any on screen time.
Overall a poor poor movie, with a messy plot, badly scripted heroes and awful acting by the main villain, terrible action sequences.
I would strongly recommend everyone skips seeing this movie so Hollywood realises people will not put up with this sort of rubbish.
