The Wild Angels (1966)
The worst biker film ever made
If there is any biker film that is a complete waste of time, this is the one. This film had a promising beginning but that was it. I am a big fan of Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern, but I was very disappointed with this. I can't believe that this is the film that introduced the biker film chain of the 60's and 70's. Much better biker films have been made later like "Hell's Angels On Wheels", "The Rebel Rousers", and my all time favorite movie "Easy Rider". I rented this thinking that this was going to be great and I was surprised that I was able to sit through the whole thing. Nancy "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" Sinatra added nothing good to this movie. The rumble scene between the bikers and the villagers was just pathetic. I didn't want Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern to be remembered for this film but I'm afraid they are, especially Dern, whose role as "Loser" reminded me of "Weekend At Bernie's". I don't recommend this turkey to anyone, not even a hardcore member of a biker gang.
The Rebel Rousers (1970)
Much better than it's made out to be.
I think that "The Rebel Rousers" is not even close to the worst biker movie ever made. I think this is quite good on a low budget. Bruce Dern is always cool and my hero Jack Nicholson is the best "Rebel" I think this beats the hell out of "The Wild Angels" which even though the talented and groovy duo of Dern and Peter Fonda were in it. I think "The Wild Angels" is the worst biker film ever made, not "The Rebel Rousers". Granted that I wish that there were more scenes of actual motorcycle riding and that most of the movie took place on a beach. I enjoy the opening music of the movie and the location in which the film was shot. Jack Nicholson is delightfully sadistic as "Bunny" especially where he beats the hell out of Cameron Mitchell. The biggest kick I got out of seeing Jack in this movie is his black and white striped pants. Bruce Dern is out of sight as the "Rebels" leader, "J.J." Bruce is much better in this part than his role as "Loser" in "The Wild Angels" which reminded me of Terry Kiser in "Weekend At Bernie's" where they all drag Bruce's dead body around.
