H2O: Just Add Water (2006–2010)
9/10
Genuine fun, in a cute package!
20 July 2009
Though I should be embarrassed to say that at 18 I watch a television show marketed for tweens, I'm not. H2O: Just Add Water is quality entertainment.

The storyline, though not entirely lacking in plot holes, is well thought out and attention catching. I've scoured the internet on more than one occasion in the attempts of finding the next episodes and I'm mildly heartbroken about the current state of Season 3. I cannot help but remain interested in whatever might be happening in "mermaid land" The acting is certainly not that of Kate Winslet or George Clooney but as far as the small screen goes the skills of the young cast are enviable. Phoebe Tonkin (Cleo), Cariba Heine (Rikki), and Claire Holt (Emma) are the three headliners. They portray their roles as not only mermaids but best friends in a believable and touching way--and manage to convey turmoil in their relationships with each other but significant others as well. We often see Angus McLaren (Lewis) and Burgess Abernethy (Zane) throughout the series and they too are welcome characters. Both portray teens with real personality flaws and remain an area of interest.

Certainly the series isn't without its flaws but it's a cute show that will keep you entertained. I'll definitely continue watching for as long as it runs.

The Holiday (2006)

Excellent Film
17 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The casting for this film was fabulous, the actors seemed not only comfortable as their characters but also worked wonderfully together. The chemistry between Jude Law and Cameron Diaz is easily visible; the two share the screen equally with no one character catching the viewers attention.

Jude law fits fantastically into his character, a man whom all women whimsically dream of someday marrying. Both Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are enchanting, as are the characters they play. Jack Black adds a little comic release to the sometimes sad scenes, and does so with suave. I walked into the theatre hoping to see Black cracking a few jokes but never expected him to be so well suited for the part he was cast. There was excellent casting for the other actors in the movie including Shannyn Sossamon, Rufus Sewell, and Eli Wallach. Miffy Englefield and Emma Pritchard are delightful, they fill the screen and are not over powered as happens when young children are on film.

I give the film 4.5 stars out of 5.

The Break-Up (2006)
6/10
Wait...what?
2 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I won't say this movie is terrible, but it definitely wasn't what I expected when I went to the box office. It's hard to see how exactly the papers are reporting this as a romantic comedy. A comedy it is, but I fail to see the romance. When I think of a romance movie I expect a good 'I can't live without you' thing to come up at the end. The Break Up doesn't offer this. Though Vince does an amazing job adding the needed humor, I felt empty afterwards. This movie is just to real, you expect it to turn around, but just like real life relationships often work out, you come up empty handed. When I walked out of the theatre I couldn't help but ask, what just happened? I can think of many ways that this film could have been improved, one of which being that there should be more depth to it. Some people may dispute but, honestly speaking, Jen doesn't offer the multi dimensional attitude we expect from her.

This is a good movie if you don't get your hopes up. Thus keep your expectations low and you'll be impressed.

It wasn't bad...It wasn't great.
26 May 2006
I'm a huge fan of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code but frankly this film didn't pull through. It strayed from Dan Brown's novel more than most people are currently stating. Ron Howard made a serious mistake when he decided to cut out some of the original depth to make the movie. Honestly, I was impressed after I saw it. That may sound odd but I don't think any other director could have done better considering the book was so amazing. It would have been hard to make it any better than this film. Nonetheless I would waste your money on this mistake, read the book instead, it was magnificent. The characters weren't exactly what I'd expected either. I was very impressed with Tom Hanks performance but I was amazed by Ron Howard's depiction of Sophie. He made her seem weak and vulnerable, which just isn't the Sophie Neveu of Dan Brown's novel.

Despite these issues if you ever see the film on TV when there isn't anything else on it will be a well spent 2 hours.
