Lost Voyage (2000)
Maybe one of the greatest films made for TV ever.
First u see the "Scream" films, then the "I know what u did last summer" series and, when u couldn't imagine worse things, u finally see "Ghost ship"... All of them movies made for the cinema with good or, at least, decent results (talking about cash, indeed. ;P)...
But when you're in your biggest disappointment about the classic and supernatural horror movies, You put your TV on and see a real cool and anxious movie that you'd never heard about... That was "Lost voyage"; a really great horror movie like never seen in ages. And surprise, surprise! there was a plot! when you'd just finished watching it and went to put the google on to know more about it... surprise, surprise, surprise!! you realize that the movie was made FOR TV!!! really amazing...
After watching horrifying horror movies that makes you more laughs that screams watching this film is just like a huge alleviation...
Not much more to say but this movie is on the line of "Gothika" and even better than "The ring"... And in my opinion it's DEFINITELY NOT A B MOVIE.
You really worth your time watching it. GO FOR IT! :)
La biblia en pasta (1984)
Brilliant, original & hilarious...
Are the words that would describe this hardly known Spanish religious comedy.
Mr.Summers succeeded in mix stupid & funny situations (that could easily had been found on a Monthy Phyton film) with the 'freak' concept consisting on introduce funny/singular people as characters of his movie. That concept was later took by directors like Santiago Segura or Javier Cárdenas for his "Torrente" and "FBI" films respectively with good results (in cash, indeed :P).
Another good merit from the Summers' film is the succeed in reaching a sane, pure and happy humor that makes u tons of pure laughs without doing bad tasted personal offences; instead of the nowadays apparently incompatibility with the 'freak' concept...
You laughs with the characters, not at them... ;) By that way, by its genial & hilarious situations, by his good entertaining (maybe not at all at the Babel's tower inauguration), by its sooooooo low budgeting, the year which was produced at and for being the first Spanish comedy movie in that way I'm giving it a 10 over 10. True that actually there're (lots of) much better movies, but Summers' effort definitely deserves it. :)
Stir of Echoes (1999)
Another very good "sixth sense" movie.
Not too original, true, since "The sixth sense" there were tons of movies like this one... but definitely I liked it.
Without having a huge amount of special effects or tons of walking deads as in other films, this one gets u keep watching the screen without even wink...
The plot is not very complex indeed, but the conversations, development and acting are just great.
As told, if u liked acclaimed films as "6th sense", "gothika" or "the ring" (stir of echoes is even 100 times better than the last one...), u'll sure enjoy this movie. I did!
I say: better be simply amazing than a complex rubbish... ;P
The Machinist (2004)
Just good.
Great movie, but not as original as I thought at first...
Its ending reminds me too much to David Koepp's "Secret window" (2004).
Amazing Christian Bale, who lost almost 40 Kgs to play Trevor Reznik.
The film would get u puzzled when, after getting into the plot, story and characters could realized that everything the starring character is living is not even real, making ur brains work really hard to put yourselves into the totally new situation...
Would have been much more impacting if only it had been released one or two years after/before the film told above. Could seem to some people as a new version of the Stephen king's book based film.
U wont waste ur time watching it at all although. Very, very good indeed ;) .
