Crazy on the Outside (2010)

Barely Watchable

Let me first state the fact that I can watch and enjoy just about anything. This, however, was a slow, rough ride. "Crazy On The Outside" deserves an award for the most predictable movie ever made. I liked the cast but as a comedy, drama, or even a love story, it was weak. Also it seemed like the whole movie was shot too dark for the kind of film it was intended to be. The only characters that really achieved any depth at all were Allen's and Weaver's. I gave this a generous 4 out of 10.

And another thing that irritated me was all of the little special effects they kept tossing in as (non)humorous filler. I am referring to Allen's mother in black and white in the truck and the anger-meter when his sister made him mad, etc.

Also the two love interests were annoying despite the fact that Julie Bowen is one of the most visually perfect women to have ever walked the face of Earth. Jeanne Tripplehorn's character left me thinking that Tommy would have been better off in prison.

Let the Right One In (2008)

Not The Best Vampire Movie EVER.

However it IS one helluva movie. The story is a nice original take on vampires and includes more themes than just bloodsucking. I read people's reviews of how good the soundtrack and the acting are but these are two areas that I found slightly weak - not bad but nothing great either. The two main characters were presented with excellent acting but most of the rest were kind of cheesy I thought. The actual scenes of vampirism were sparse and that is not always a bad thing. For as low-budgeted as this film seemed there is a scene near the end that had one of the neatest special-effects I have ever witnessed. This movie came with no subtitling but it was overdubbed with English voices that, as always, were more than awkward sounding. To judge it on visual aesthetics alone I would give this movie a 10. Locations and indoor settings were excellent. This is a very memorable film. I highly recommend it. Calling it the best vampire movie ever is a very long stretch for me. I would call it ONE OF the most original movies ever.

You, Me and Dupree (2006)

Even With Hudson and Rogen I would Still Recommend

This movie was shat upon by every critic but really it is pretty good. I admit I am a huge Owen Wilson fan and I like Matt Dillon and Michael Douglas a lot too so this may have helped considerably. On the flip side I can barely stomach Kate Hudson or Seth Rogen. This movie is nothing ingenious but it keeps you entertained and there are plenty of laughs. Don't buy the anti-hype, if you are in the mood for a comedy (and if you've ever been married) it's worth a watch. If you have ever had an in-law or friend of your significant other's crash at your place for too long you will appreciate this even more. As annoying as Owen Wilson's character is I started to feel for the guy by the end of it. * on a purely plastic note I must add that even if Kate is annoying, homely, and flat-chested - she sure can rock a bikini bottom (holy sh..)

Roadside Prophets (1992)

A Rare Gem

For those late nights when all you have to entertain yourself with is a TV and a good buzz, "Roadside Prophets" saves. This movie has been hailed as the, "best ever" and that is quite a stretch but, I love it to death nonetheless. I got sucked into it when I noticed Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz was in it. He may not be the best actor but he is interesting enough to pull it off. There are many cameos by some of my favorite personalities. What makes this movie great are the lazy scenes out on the road and somewhat non existent plot. It's one of those flicks that let you leave the couch when you really can't. Roadside Prophets gives you the feel of total freedom and crazy misadventures out on the open roads of America's west. For the first time in 38 years I am tempted to buy a bike (but I wont).

House of Frankenstein (1997)

Entertaining

People here were a bit harsh here at IMDb (imagine!). This movie is not near as bad as some would say. I can't really get into made for TV movies, mini-series or even drama series. That being said, this was mildly entertaining. I watched the whole thing just now on Chiller's lame excuse for a horror channel and it took me 4 hours that could have been better spent. I am not saying that this is a masterpiece (I rated it a 6) but if you are like me and come here to IMDb to check out a movie before watching it - don't listen to the naysayers. It was pretty decent. The costumes were not that bad. The head vamp's rubbery ears I could get past though his wings looked like fabric instead of living tissue. Ah well, the story was good and Teri Polo may be the hottest woman alive. Frank was a bit goofy looking but I think they were trying to make him look less fantastic to aid in everyone's disbelief. This may not have been worth 4 hours but if we could get a DVD version without commercials it would definitely be worth the watch.

Hostel (2005)

Not as good as I had hoped but, better than I anticipated.

This is definitely worth a watch if you like disturbing movies. I thought this would be another teen horror flick when I first saw the actors. Turns out that there are some original ideas and looks going for this film. I could have done without the senseless, "eye removal" scene. It looked like the special effects guys were having way too much fun there.

I was impressed with the way they went an extra inch towards making the characters seem real. They failed but, still you don't normally see this good of an attempt in mainstream horror. The locations/sets helped tremendously as this film is actually pretty submersing (which isn't always a good thing for the weak-hearted).

And yes you heard right: nudity nudity, and even more nudity - tacky but I was *ahem!* able to handle it.

I picked up this and, "Wolf Creek". This was definitely the better of the two, in my cruddy opinion.

Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005 Video)

Blasphemy!

This is blasphemy! Doesn't Clive Barker have the final power to say no to a Hellraiser movie ?!? I gave this a "4" because it was mildly entertaining. The acting was hurtin' for certain. The lead girl was beautiful. The guy playing Adam's father was the only decent actor though. That guy with the asthma problem was not only a bad actor but, annoying to look at with his gooberish expressions. This was like watching Scream. This had very little relevancy to The Hellbound Heart. Look at the fat cop at the end and you will see how much sense this movie made. Funny, seems as though our heroine has a pretty good imagination...
